- Birmingham City are desperate to bounce back from EFL League One to the EFL Championship at the first time of asking and the 2024 League One transfer window will be absolutely crucial! In this Podcast, we discuss and consider the MUST-HAVE signings Birmingham City need to solidify the squad for every position.

Yeah I think in League 1 they definitely need to improve that physicality. No doubt they can play football but in a league as physical as this you really need to be able to hold your own and win your individual battles all over the pitch.

After relegation there is a really good feel good factor around the club and season ticket sales are flying. Agree with all your points and we certainly need numbers in this transfer window, as I expect several departments (JJ, Paik, Bacuna, etc). It’s essential we get the spine of the team right - a solid, ball-playing ‘keeper, commanding centre half, midfield enforcer and fast/imposing striker. KRO 👍🏻

The spine is absolutely crucial and we need to show a lot more battle and desire than last season that's for sure.
Hopefully, we can get some momentum this summer and start getting some players through the door.

Thinking Tyler Robert’s will be key to solving our goal scoring issues hopefully 🤞 along with Dixon who needs to be proven at this level not sure ? and juke playing his part maybe one other youngish out and out forward Feeling the excitement KRO

I think Tyler Roberts needs to get a little confidence under his belt, and he could be really great this season. We saw little bits of this last season but he never really got the momentum going.
I think we will see youngsters getting more minutes this season but we definitely need to bring a couple of strikers in just to fill the squad if nothing else in fear of injury and squad depth in that area :)

Hope we can keep hold of Bielek. He should be made captain if he stays. A Marlon King type of striker would be great too with that aggressive way he had up front would be great for league one. Great podcast as always lads. KRO

Completely agree mate, especially with his new-ish role he started to develop nearing the end of the season, he's gone to show just how adaptable he is. He would be a brilliant captain
Tottenham, Liverpool, Leicester, Celtic. Davies has been to all these clubs in his career… watch this space! Get the players in who will add steel to the team. We have talent coming from the u21 and u19… The futures blue!! KRO

Many clubs in the premiership will be letting go of lads that didn't quite make it ....iam sure most of them will be good enough for league 1

I think loan players will play a big part in the coming season, it's vital we get out of league 1
Thank you for your comment. We have made good use of the loan market over recent years (apart from Ollie Burke) and I’m sure we will do the same again this up and coming season. Totally agree that Alex Pritchard, Tyler Roberts and Keshi Anderson can all play a big part for us next season. With a full pre-season under their belts and some coaching from Chris Davies and his team I'm hoping to see a freshness about these players. As always great work guys. I think we need to get back to the no excuses/hard work culture of John Eustace. Chris has made a good start by saying that he only wants good people at the club. So more physicality needed, players who get on and work hard for each other, more connection with us fans and some no nonsence centre backs. But most of all we need strikers who can score! It's a problem that we've had for so many years and we really need to address that! For all that, more importantly I was really sad to hear the news about Matija Sarkic. To lose your life at such a young age is tragic. He did well for us and it's a shame that we didn't sign him permanently. RIP

You name similar observations to ours and it is clear that we need additions all over the pitch. Matt mentioned in the podcast that we have not had a 20+ a season striker for years and that is a reason why we have struggled to win more games. Hopefully we can sign a striker that can provide that for us although they are not easy to find as every team is looking for the same! KRO and kind regards (Gary)
Listening to your midfield comments I agree we have excess CM's but all similar attributes and styles, We are desperate for a combative Box to box and we may have to sell to fill to add an already oversized Midfield
Maikel Kieftenbeld type of player sprinds to mind, What a siging he was! for a mere 200k, That's exactly the type of player we should be going for knew where the goal was too

Oh wow, I just got flashbacks to 2015-2016! Good reference and a solid player. For the price tag that was a great signing. We certainly need these kinds of combative players in the midfield in League 1.

Recruitment is going to be crucial and I know Chris Davies has already spoken about the character of the players and that’s good to hear. As for junior Dixon I’d loan him out, I’ve watched him a couple of times and not sure he’s ready tbh

think i'd prefer Beilik in his normal position and get in two young, hungry big defensive units to form a long term partnership. I miss the days of Johnson and Dann together. But yeah, someone who can build a long term partnership with i think.
Thank you for your comment. In his younger days at Arsenal Beilik was a centre half but was mainly used as a central midfielder by John Eustace. I must admit I prefer him as a centre half but it is always good to have a bit of versatility in the squad.
We do need to bring in a couple of commanding centre halves though with a bit of height as we are light in that department. KRO and kind regards (Gary)

Ryan Allsop Is Ruddy's replacement.
15% OF South Korean national squad come from K-league 2 which is lower than UK- league 1 in ranking 9% are out of Australian A-league also lower in ranking than UK- league 1 so I don't get the logic that Paik will need to go to get in to the national squad. Same goes for Miyoshi and the Japanese national squad 13% of them play in Canada all leagues massively lower ranked than UK- league 1. We won't be playing with a Box-to-Box midfielder if we are playing out from the back Its Ticki Tacka its not wing play.

Valid point. A weak team / defence will inevitably pile the pressure on the goalkeeper. I think we will see another defender coming through the door this year. Latest rumour is Helik from Huddersfield. I personally really like him…

After the money spent on the ground and shop ,bars etc ..they must have at least a 20 million pound to spend on players ..I suppose they will be juat looking to spend enough to get us out the division and then look to better signings in the championship, but we all know the squad needs improving all over ,strikers are a must either a straight up forward or wingers that score goals ...so optimistic KRO also I'd love them to bring che adams back and pay gis big wages ..wonder if a 5 year contract would turn his head 🤔 considering we'd go up and be pushing for premier league the season after that...also where's Pritchard 🤔

I don't think they will be able to spend to the levels they probably would have if we had stayed in the Championship however I'm sure for League One we will have a very healthy budget.
I think Che Adams has been linked with a few Premier League clubs so that is unlikely. Pritchard is still with us but he has a lot to prove if he is not sold. KRO and kind regards (Gary)

You can't argue with that stat however I don't think we saw Ethan Laird anywhere near his best last season which was partly a result of a few injuries in the early part of the season and he was also being second pick to Cody Drameh for a parts of the season. We won't bring in 3 or 4 strikers at all, as with Juke, Roberts and Dixon who needs to be tried as is a great talent and time to start using our young players I can see only 1 or 2 coming in, as for CDM I'd rather Beilek play there knowing if needed can move to CB,
Thank you for your comment Glen. It's difficult to say really because it depends on how the club can and will use both Jukey and Dixon. Jukey I see as an impact sub as we have seen him used over the last few seasons and it is possible that Dixon may be sent out on loan to give him some regular first team experience.
In my personal opinion I prefer Beilek at Centre Half. I think he is dominant in that position. I also think that is where we will see him next season with the club bringing in a creative central midfielder. KRO and kind regards (Gary)
@SmallHeathAllianceFC to be honest with Dixon I've watched him all kast season and to me sending hum out on loan would be a mistake as ok if we were still in the championship and fir him to go to league 1 side, but now is the right time to give this lad games in thus league for us, he is a good finisher and knows we're the goal is, we need to get him involved, as we won't be spend much at all, I can see 1 striker in on loan but no other
@@glenljohnson1 that may well be the case Glen. The club may decide to give Dixon some first team experience rather than send him out on loan. I suspect that Chris Davies will assess him and decide so expect to see him feature in pre season matches. KRO
