Aww the Hachiko statue! I didn't know about the story of Hachiko until I watched the film Hachiko: A Dog's Tale (one of the saddest films ever). The cherry blossoms are beautiful.
Man, I was replaying Persona 5 recently and it's surreal to see 5:08-5:42 to me as that location appears in the game and you experience most of the ranks for a confidant right by that green building.

Ah, Natto. Part of me wants to relay several memories of my time in Japan because there were a lot of nice little things that made that trip memorable. To elaborate on Jeff's point, Natto (at least for me) is VERY pungent with a taste that's basically a right hook to your tastebuds. Not salty, not sweet, spicy, or whatnot, but very, very...'expressive' I suppose, where you can feel the flavor in your nose while you're eating it. Would not recommend for those without such tastes.
Man... I know I'm late to the party, but gosh darnit If my stomach wasn't so terrible under the elevated stress while travelling, I would book a flight right now and see Tokyo for myself next spring. Excellent camerawork, excellent choice of music. Brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for sharing all this, so people like me, who struggle with travelling, can at least enjoy an impression of such gorgeous places.

Dan in Japan in slo-mo Japan has something to offer for everyone. Great to visit; living there is more complicated. For me, I couldn't/didn't want to live there long term.
@@harterton A lot of unspoken societal norms and pressure (think about the low birth rate and high suicide rate). It's a culture of extremes; very conservative and hyper-modern. Too each their own, but I prefer more of a"middle way". It goes without saying, but many ex-pats love living in Japan and stay there long term, so this is of course IMHO.
Sucks i respond 4 and a half years later on this but yes I know Tokyo is alot bigger than San Antonio, but Tokyo having a river cut through the city reminds me too much like San Antonio because of the San Antonio River cutting through downtown and much of the city. Wow but those blossoms going through the river there in Tokyo are an awesome sight.
I get to watch this on my new MacBook Pro and I get to see so much more of the quality of these beautiful pan shots and scenery! Great job Jeff and Stephen
I love watching japan vlogs, but it always makes me think that if I ever get the chance to go I'd have to go for like 5 months to enjoy every single aspect it has to offer.

Funny, the first time I had natto was in a sushi roll too, and I thought it tasted like sour milk. A few years later, I bought some frozen natto from an Asian supermarket, made it into a rice bowl, and it was *delicious*.
Going there. So reminds me of a game series. The actual buildings in it to. A Shin Megami game series. Good you had good food and sights. Yeah I was surprised most of you didn't turn in earlier. All the walking. Saw a lady looking at Dan! :-))
In my experience natto sushi was the worst natto I've had. It was more bitter than the other types I've had. My suggestion is if you are trying natto for the first time is to eat the egg-flavored kind. It's more mild than the rest of the flavors I've had.

Natto is sssssoooo delicious! I’d describe the smell as literally used coffee grounds mixed with a nail parlor but honestly the taste isn’t that bad the best is when you mix it with spicy mustard

There was a kids show on Noggin called Oobi, named for the main character. Virtually all the characters were hands with eyes stuck on them. I liked it.
If you're in the touristy areas of Tokyo and Kyoto you can get by with no Japanese, but I'd definitely recommend learning basic phrases and hiragana/katakana if you venture outside those places
So while in Shaboya (correct my spelling someone). Did you come across a politician? I believe he might prove useful on your journey. If a certain Cat will let me sleep when I want.
