Everyone talks about John, Simon, and Andy, but can we take a moment to appreciate Roger? That man is absolutely wonderful at what he does. He's one of the people who inspired me to play drums. He's just so quick and precise
I know. He is a great drummer. He is also the most private and reclusive of the original 5. The meteoric rise to fame they "enjoyed" put a heavy strain on his nerves, too; which is why he bowed out for a few years in the '80s/90s. Without a doubt, the original lineup was the best... I'm glad they're all back together. 👍

Com certeza, é também a melhor banda de todos os tempos pra mim, e "friends of mine" é a minha música preferida. Amo todos os integrantes, principalmente John e Roger.
I was obsessed with Nick, Simon, John and did emulate their style, I saw them at the Roxy theatre on sunset blvd in Los Angeles (capacity 500) on their first us tour..still have my autographs and ticket stub.. it was $7.50 general admission. I wish someone had filmed that show.. we were front and center and dancing the whole time..thrilling memories..

Just saw them tonight in Boston. They performed this song and it was fantastic. I have gone to concerts all my life and I am stunned by how good they were. I feel like it was the best concert I have ever seen. Thank you Duran Duran for all the great memories dating all the way back to the early 80's! Keep rocking or is it still New Waving?

There was another (better) side to this bands' music that, sadly, the masses never experienced. Despite their huge success in the early 80's, paradoxically they are a very underrated act. This is my favorite song by them, oh and Khanada, oh and Secret Oktober, oh and New Religion, oh and...

You sound like a well versed person of taste (from a pretty well experienced DD follower). Very true - I still really rate some of the B-sides and non-singles that just totally captivate. After all, to appreciate art we sometimes have to look at things from a different perspective - look beyond the immediately accessible works and find pieces that take your breath away. Additionally, when you listen to some of the late 80's re-arranged pieces of their more familiar works, you get to see a band that really understands their music and vibe, delivering art that goes well beyond the "pops".
Five young Durans, sitting around a table, playing cards and looking smoking hot, interspersed with cool early performance footage. What's not to love?
Laurie L. I've been duraning since 1981 they are my life band Laurie. Seen them 14times and was at villa park in 1983 .They have been my inspiration throughout. Love from a male duranie. Manchester uk x
I've been a full fledged Duranie since 1981, and I'll die a full fledged Duranie. I think that somehow my mom knew when Nick and Simon were born, because I was born on Nick's ( 8 years after him ), and my sister was born on Simon's ( 13 years after him ). When the 2nd British Invasion hit, I was...still am...into every British band from the late 70s to middle 80s. God I WISH I could go back in time, so that my husband and myself could experience the decade all over again and again and again. I'll never want to leave. Plus, my mom would still be alive ( RIP mom who I got her into A LOT of the British bands ).
My mom used listen to DD with me. My dad sometimes too. In fact when Arena came out, we were in a trip to Phoenix AZ. My parents let me listen to the cassette 8 hours there and 8 hours back. Rest in peace mom and dad. Thanks for being cool.
The sweetest thing I’ve read! I can empathize with how you feel, I was born 30 years to late so as much as I enjoy listening to them it would mean a lot to live through the age of the British Invasion of the late 70s/early 80s
@@lanasgirl479 It definitely was an exciting time to have been part of. I can still remember the day that MTV debuted, which was August 1st of 1981. Many, many, many young kids refused to go to bed, because they wanted to watch the debut of MTV. MTV played, on repeat, The Bugles, “Video Killed The Radio Star.” It was a brand new era and experience. It was Duran Duran that made movie-like videos. They did, however, got into a bit of hot water with their original music video for “Girls On Film,” and they had to censor and edit certain parts of the music video, BUT the original was played after 10pm. The other music video, from Duran Duran, that was only shown after 10pm was “The Chauffeur.” I can’t believe that the music from the early to mid 80s are now considered to be “golden oldies.” As long as you continue to play the 80s and enjoy the music, it doesn’t matter when you were born. This song & video are HUGELY infused with the energy, freshness & originality that characterized New Wave music when it first came out & represented such an undeniable break with Pre-1980's Pop/Rock sounds, styles & conventions as to make being a teenager or early twenty-something at that time (as I was) a totally mind-blowing experience. Best time to be that age in the history of Pop/Rock BAR NONE!
Duran Duran back in the fun fledgling days. Miss Andy Taylor's contribution to the sound. He added the cool, edgy factor with his guitar tone. On ya Andy!!!
Self titled and Rio are absolutely masterpieces, there are no bad songs at all. In fact, I have self titled on cassette, but unfortunately it doesn't have my favorite track, which is Late Bar
1:20 and 1:36 Simon seems to forget when to sing the words 'waiting' and 'taking', he gets them mixed up. Couple of other times too. Very slight. Just bad miming on Simon's part LOL. But still a great song and video.
i've been a DD fan since i was 14 (almost 25 now) and i finally got to see them live and hear this song live this year (2023 for all you future duranies!) 🎉 love them so much❤❤
Been a fan since 1981. I was 10 almost 11. Saw them for the first time in 1984 at the carrier dome in Syracuse ny. I have seen them a total of 4 times now. Just saw them again on September 3rd. They still put on one heck of a show.
Scott Wozniak If you're in the US you won't have, I recognize it as being from Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, a BBC music/features programme for kids on Saturday mornings in the 70s/80s :)
+Scott Wozniak LOL me either, but it does sound vaguely familiar.... I can't wait to see them in a few weeks at Red Rocks, it will be my adolescent dream come true, albeit a few (READ: many, many) years later.... I'm not sure who should be more scared, the crowd or them !! ha.
+Scott Wozniak, me too. I copied their hairstyle and put the single ear ring on like Simon did. LOL. This video is in superb quality. So cute the young Duran. Thank you Orlando for uploading.
The more I hear DD today the more I feel I was right back then. The original sound of this band was Andy Taylor's guitar it gave the band that edge and popularity. Yes there was the Nigel who became the good looking John with Simon but the guitar was that constant accent in the band. I always thought Andy never got the recognition for his contribution to the band I remember the early members of the band such as Andy Wicket who helped Simon out with he's singing. They where great times growing up in Kings Heath, Moseley area of Birmingham getting the 50 bus and hitting the town up Broad street, Digbeth, John Bright street the old 45, 47, stop.
John Rappaport They did? Why are they using the set for the "Careless Memories" video, then? (The scenes with them sitting around a round table playing cards.) Although I'm not sure if they were wearing the same outfits here as in the "My Own Way" video except that I know there was a scene where Nick and Roger turned up in suits and got properly fondled by the flamenco dancers in the video. Nick was eating it all up while Roger looked so embarrassed!
I don't think you can get more New Romantic than this song, well maybe you can (fade to gray by Visage or early OMD, but is unmatchable to Duran Duran)!!! Duran Duran first caught my attention as a young boy in the early 80's........and I have liked them ever since the Rio and Seven and the Ragged Tiger Albums (too young to remember their first album entitled, "Duran Duran"). Duran Duran are and will remain my #1 Favorite Band. They are not just a part of my childhood, but a part of my life as far as their music making me feel great (Euphoric at times). Thanks for uploading this video clip.
They were post punk people wanted different music at the time they delivered. There first self titled album was epic put them into overnight fame then they delivered Rio!!
Growing up in the 80s, this band and their music had became my safe haven from the ways of the world. After more than 40 years, this is truly the first time that I have seen this one. Awesome cut that still rocks and kicks ass,😎😎😎😎😎.
Simon leaning over the table at 3:45, HELLO!!!! - This video is a bit dorky but dear god they are beautiful. I've never seen this video but 9 year old me would've been having serious arrhythmia had it been on 'Countdown' back then.
There's only notes A-G, plus sharps/flats and keys. This is bound to happen throughout time. I doubt it's intentional. I'd have to be in the room when it's written to know that. I love both songs, but despite the similarities, they have a completely different feel for me. There's a song by the Cure that's like this, but I can't remember the other song for comparison. Brain's too old lol.
I had completely forgotten this song until I saw them in Chicago. The style swings between the verses and chorus grabbed my attention in the 80s, now it’s back in my head.
This is one of those songs that pop into your head every now and then and when you hear it it's like listening to it for the first time. Big Duranny as a teenager and use to play drums to this all the time...Great Band, Great Song, Awesome Bass Line (as usual) and just pure fun to listen to again...Thanks for such a classic.
I saw this video as a young girl.I saw the Aesthetic in their dress and an immediately remembered song. I'm 47 now - and my adult sons respect Duran Duran.
JoSi alert..If you watch closely from 3:40s onwards, Simon's leaning on the table singing but keeps glancing at John as he's singing and then smiles directly at him before the camera pans away :P
I love when they play this song live, saw them at the Isle of Wight festival last year, was amazing! On another note, I love the music videos they did with these uniforms, especially the hair, and Simon looks so cute!
RT is sooooo perfectly handsome. He and JT were the most dreamy English boys when I was a pre-teen. Yes, they were an absolutely gorgeous band, but I heard their songs and fell for the music before I ever saw their videos. MTV wasn't in every city for several years after it launched.
Oooh they were so young then. 😊 I love watching this video over and over! Their costumes are so cool! The video is also amazing! 😄 One of my favorite songs to sing along to and one of my favorite videos to watch! 😄
Any Duran Duran gives me a psychic woody.. this is no exception. early 1980's were a god-gift, and duran duran shared it with all of us, Even if never realized it...
DD have always been my fav band and new album out this year...I used to have a huge poster on my wall with them in these outfits....my fav outfits they ever wore and I am a straight 47 year old lol!
My wife and I have seen them twice so far: the first time 15 years ago in Jakarta, and the second last year at Red Rocks! There was such a world of difference between the 2 shows! In Jakarta, we were in General Admission on the floor about 50 feet away from the stage. There was no video material--the screens were used only for close-ups for the fans in the mezzanine to see them. At Red Rocks last year, the place was so packed, we had to sit in a planter box just so we could have breathing room, but it was worth it! They played almost the entire first album, and when they played this song, I was absolutely blown away!
This was from The Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, which was live, Saturday morning kids’ TV. Presumably the “performance” part was recorded and the scenes around the table (part of the studio set) were live.
That explains why it’s bit rare I bet hardly anyone had a vhs recorder. I had about 8 E180’s with every tv performance from late 1982. I’m so thankful most bits now findable on TH-cam. My best earliest tape was recorded over by mum mum in 1990 when I went to poly I have never been so angry with her. More fool me for leaving at home.
É do primeiro álbum, que pra mim é o melhor deles. Depois procura as músicas "Like An Angel", "Late Bar" e "Khanada". São as músicas que ficaram de fora dos 2 primeiros discos. Excepcionais!!
As a die hard fan of Duran Duran, I had not seen this video until about a year or so ago. As a teenager I would have died to see this LOL and even as adult I still love them all =) In October I seen them in Dallas. It was the best concert ever. I wanted them to play this song so bad however I did get to enjoy hearing Planet Earth live. I miss Andy being with the group. I always wanted to see them in concert as a teen in the 80s but seeing them as an adult only made me appreciate them more.
Come to Brazil again, I'm looking forward to seeing a show of yours, I had no chance before. I hope so much..... Fan since 1981, when I was 11 years old. My favorite song, one of the most beautiful...

Been a fan since 1981. I was 10 almost 11. Saw them for the first time in 1984 at the carrier dome in Syracuse ny. I have seen them a total of 4 times now. Just saw them again on September 3rd. They still put on one heck of a show.
@@melissawise1972 Just saw them in August 2023, it was awesome!!
Been a Duran Duran fan since age 14 also. i am now 53
I love the screen capture for this. Simon has never looked more maniacal.
I agree Simon looks like a freaking lunatic. His face in the screenshot for this video is so unfortunate considering he was so handsome.
its like simon doesnt think highly about his "friends" XD
Lol ❤
@@perilesspreeI think it's great, I was looking for that part in the video but didn't notice it
I really love the creepy sounding stuff on the first album.
Don’t fuck with coke and weed
Yes it has an interesting sound!
2:38 he sings: "I know that I'm not TAKING anymore"
2:38 the sound: "I know that I'm not WAITING anymore"
I've been a fan for 30+ years and have never seen this video!
Scott Wozniak same here
Scott Wozniak If you're in the US you won't have, I recognize it as being from Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, a BBC music/features programme for kids on Saturday mornings in the 70s/80s :)
Scott Wozniak I was thinking the same thing.
NIck Rhodes is soooooooooooooo beautiful in this video :)...Duranie for life!!!!!!! No band like them ever!!!!
One of my favourite Duran Duran tracks, love that it’s still being enjoyed in 2020
Ladies and Gentlemen, This is Duran Duran!
Never?
John Taylor, what more can I can say!!!!!!
Absolutely scrumptious
Marva Jones-McMullin - haha yes! Hi-five!
Marva Jones-McMullin nick rohdes what more can I can say !!
Marva Jones-McMullin the sexiest Man ever
Marva Jones-McMullin p
Love it. Pure Andy Taylor on lead. Classy boys.
Andy rocks it hard!!! Love him.
John on bass is good too baby!!
Ils ont su colorer mon adolescence et toute ma vie avec leur musique unique et marquante. Leur spectacles, vidéos & costumes, tout était parfait!
Good old days 🤟🤘👍💯💖👏👏🌹
Go there now 😆
The fab five. Love them all. Nick is my love but Simon is so Gorgeous here. DD forever.
+Sara Rodrigues they shot this the same day they did My Own Way
John Rappaport They did? Why are they using the set for the "Careless Memories" video, then? (The scenes with them sitting around a round table playing cards.) Although I'm not sure if they were wearing the same outfits here as in the "My Own Way" video except that I know there was a scene where Nick and Roger turned up in suits and got properly fondled by the flamenco dancers in the video. Nick was eating it all up while Roger looked so embarrassed!
Sara Rodrigues John is the Best ,for Me!♡♡
A banda da minha vida, desde que eu tinha 10 anos amooooooooooooooooooooooooo e sempre irei amar Duran Duran!!!!!!
Mi favorita ❤ Duran Duran que temazo los coros la energía de otro mundo.
What a band, proud Duranie right here. Legendary ❣️👑❣️
Yes their music does do that!
Killer drums and bass. Guitar too. I never realized how talented these guys were musically. Spot fucking on!
Exactly that's why this song is one of my favorites 😊
I have always loved this song from day one since I first heard it
The Most Sexiest 80s Band!!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE duran duran ❤❤😊😊😊❤❤❤
Good looks and fashion was important to their appeal their music was paramount do you agree?
@@TruthandJustice4166 yes
Here here
I still adore this song from listening to it 40 years ago 💜 love you Duran Duran 💜💜💜
Growing up in the 80s, this band and their music had became my safe haven from the ways of the world. After more than 40 years, this is truly the first time that I have seen this one. Awesome cut that still rocks and kicks ass,😎😎😎😎😎.
Still in love with Simon after 32 years. Call me!
My dad is constantly recommending music for me and I appreciate him so much omg
Awww, they were so cute! And to think Nick was only 19 !!!!! He was intelligent and wise beyond his years
Simon leaning over the table at 3:45, HELLO!!!! - This video is a bit dorky but dear god they are beautiful. I've never seen this video but 9 year old me would've been having serious arrhythmia had it been on 'Countdown' back then.
John Taylor is the coolest & the most inspiring bassist in the world. I owe a thanks to him as the reason for me picking up and learning bass guitar.
Was at a bar a while back at closing time. They started jamming this song. Best song of the night.
Simon can be a friend of mine
everette martin Just a friend???? C'mon he can be more than a friend 😂
Hell yeah! He can both to me as long as I get him.
I remember sometimes wearing a rolled bandanna on my head as J. Taylor does in this video. What a time it was.
blur most definitely lifted this duran track for girls & boys
whatthehellvideos I had never noticed that before-but now I can’t not hear it-you’re right x
Yes around 1994 every duranie connect Boys and Girls like a retroduranie flavor.Damon voice connect too with Simon early tone.
@Samuel Rummer they should have sued them, like the kinks tryed doing to the doors beause hello, i love you sounded like all day of night lol 😂😂😂😂
Wow yes you’re right! How did I not hear that before?!? Duran - the original and the best! 💕💕💕
That bassline 🔥🔥🔥
Just saw them in Chicago 🥰
They performed this it was incredible 👏 😍
I had completely forgotten this song until I saw them in Chicago. The style swings between the verses and chorus grabbed my attention in the 80s, now it’s back in my head.
@@joelambert1243Same, I had forgotten it until I saw them play it in concert 2 months ago! 🤩
Simon’s expressions in this video looks like me when I’m trying to sing along to this song in my car lol
Duran Duran banda maravilhosa. Garotos talentosos descobri essa musica por acaso durante a pandemia. Não paro de ouvir.
Fernanda concordo plenamente vc com vc.
Ladies & Gentlemen, NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL MUSIC!
One of the highlights of their classic debut album. Great track.
JoSi alert..If you watch closely from 3:40s onwards, Simon's leaning on the table singing but keeps glancing at John as he's singing and then smiles directly at him before the camera pans away :P
Simple innuendo 🤷🏽♀️
Pretty sure this was around the time they were having rivalry over girls LMAO
@@zizzi4626 the two are not mutually exclusive! Lol
Simon is me because I’m obsessed with johns bandana look
Eu sou fã dessa banda desde o inicio e também nunca havia visto esse clipe...meu Deus, amei!
6 anos depois.... ainda curte esses caras antigos?? 🤮
@@montech5647 curto sim, algum problema? E Deus deu a vida, para cada um cuidar da sua!
@@carmobest Gusttavo lima é melhor que esses Duran Duran, não acha?
I love when they play this song live, saw them at the Isle of Wight festival last year, was amazing! On another note, I love the music videos they did with these uniforms, especially the hair, and Simon looks so cute!
Happy New Year when it comes to all the the band members. Andy you are the heartbeat of Duran Duran
They said they were friends of mine...they said they were only passing time..timeless classic🔥🔥
Furan duran salón de la fama del Rock and roll simón bellooooooo 💋💋💋💋❤
RT is sooooo perfectly handsome. He and JT were the most dreamy English boys when I was a pre-teen. Yes, they were an absolutely gorgeous band, but I heard their songs and fell for the music before I ever saw their videos. MTV wasn't in every city for several years after it launched.
Oooh they were so young then. 😊 I love watching this video over and over! Their costumes are so cool! The video is also amazing! 😄 One of my favorite songs to sing along to and one of my favorite videos to watch! 😄
I woke up with this video playing, oh love them all. What a grand morning!
Been a Duranie for over 45 yrs and this is the first time seeing this video....OMG, LOVE IT!!!!
Duran Duran is a classic, that will not Ever be Matched. I loved them an their Genius Talent.
Well said
Não dá pra imaginar um baile anos 80, sem essa banda
Duran Duran back then just handsome young men at home having fun rehearsing music and enjoying themselves
They really showed the early 'Japan' influences in tracks like these…And decades later Duran still write tracks very like this for their albums.
The iconic voices of some 80´s singers are just... unforgettable.
Duranie since 1981 here, love this song!!! ♡
Idem
Minha musica preferida!
The best song of DD !!!!! and Simon is so cute
Cara, eu não conhecia essa música. Que música da hora, Duran Duran raiz mesmo.
A precursor to the sounds on Seven ? Might be the best song in the whole album. That Chorus 🔥 Underrated.
Great song. So rad. I love these old videos.
Come to Brazil again, I'm looking forward to seeing a show of yours, I had no chance before. I hope so much..... Fan since 1981, when I was 11 years old. My favorite song, one of the most beautiful...
i love this video, i love nick n simon for all these years..
Durannie gal! Like, you know. We love our fellas. They're totally tubular. x
This song and album is amazing!!! This is Duran!!! This song is VERY Bowie esk!!!! LOVE IT!!! LOVE DURAN DURAN!!!
