@@andyh7895 very true. I never thought of that. He did lay some tracks for Notorious, but after that, when Warren came in with experimental sounds that really took Duran Duran to a questionable direction. Dom Brown has fulfilled the role and does contribute to song writing too, but he's no Andy Taylor. Andy also has a great voice for singing back up too. Thanks for the insight. Something to thing about & appreciate for sure now.
I know they were looked on as a tennage girly band at the time but each of them are actually bloody good musicians in their own right and can hold their own live
John's bass is impecabile! Roger's beat is fire! Andy"s Guitar is on points edge! Nick's Synths are so melodic and futuristic and of course Simon is the best frontman in the world! Their music is so original Poppy/Rocky/Gothy and Discoy and it is their sound!! Duran Duran Forever!

One of their best songs..the bass to die for...every element of their individual musicianship shines on this. I remember watching this on telly and recording it on vhs tape...and playing it endlessly til the tape wore out! OGWT was a gd programme. I'm pretty sure all OGWT performances were live unlike TOTP>...the music never sounded better!!
I still like Andy. He is a good guitarist and good back up vocals. He also gave them assertiveness and experience when the band was first starting out. Not to mention song/music writing.
@@CattyTatty They became huge. Then the hiatus and sideprojects brought the differences to closer to the surface. Their sound did change to more dense with songs like "Wild Boys" and "Reflex". They have later stated that perhaps they should have done a follow up to "Rio" back then, sort of sophisticated rock pop dance record.
@@CattyTatty That is the matter of radio playlists and believing that music that is older than three months will disappear and will make you rot, unpopular and not cool person if listening it.
I will be talking about this Band until the day I die. I have liked this Band since age 6 in the early eighties and THEY have changed my life. While some things in the 80's seemed uncool, you really have to admit that Duran Duran are cool.
Andy really didn't get the recognition he deserves. It's his guitar sound the really gaveDD that edge sound and set the group apart from others. He's a real rocker at heart.
Without a doubt one of their best songs. Mind you pretty much anything from their first album had that wonderful ambiance to it which they really only carried over to Rio.
unfortunately the record labels don`t want them to make songs like these ...the band has no choice but to follow the label. They have the entire album "reportage" catching dust on the shelves just because the record label did`nt like it of course it was a rock protest album.
Nothing really, but I prefer having one of the best bass players out there actually playing bass guitar. The new album is a lot of drum machine and synth.
Classic! This just shows in very early raw terms why DD became so great-every member, every instrument combines equally to create a masterpiece.. imho of course!
OMG Thank you putting this on TH-cam. Duran Duran is the band that made me a music nerd and become producer, engineer, and artist. Their first two albums are indelibly imprinted on my mind, heart, and soul.
Duran Duran's early albums were characterized by a mood created by the synths and use of other electronic instrumentation (sequencers, etc.). Brilliant! Great examples are songs like Anyone Out There, Sound of Thunder, Night Boat, New Religion, etc.I wish they would include these songs in their recent concert set lists. Shame.
Brilliant tune!, one of my fave DD songs. Glad it wasn't a single, would have made it more commercial & ended up being played to death. Early 80's were the best times ever for music!
You are so right. Anyone out there always was my favourite track on the debut album. Girls on film is an example for played to death so i could not hear anymore for quiet a long time.
My favorite has always been Simon, but I love how this shows how great Roger is and that Andy could really sing (aside from being stellar on the guitar). He sang when we was with the Power Station.
Andy has on his hands that attack sound I enjoy so much on DD. You can ear it on Rio, girls on film, hungry like the Wolf...all Duran Duran 's hits it's there, so it's in DD's DNA ID 🤩
I Love this song...it's fuckin great and beautiful, John Taylor is a very talented bassist-musician, and Roger Taylor is-was always the secret power, on the background....Tight, Solid and punchy playing always, and a so shy, i think, personallity...Well, all they are great, everyone with his own way..Yeah, for sure one of the most talented pop,(synth-pop) band that walked on earth ever...(just IMO, and i guess some millions other opinion to....). Anyway...
Always thought DD got it right ... the right level of acoustics and synths .... there are others out there but few got it right. This is DD at their best. I will never forget the few shows I got to see in that 1981-83 period. Living in Toronto, I got to see them a few times in very small venues. Nothing will ever compare with the excitement and energy of those shows. These were shows where few knew of them.
Saw duran for the first time at Manchester apollo 11 December 1981. They were absolutely brilliant never heard screaming like it in my life. The atmosphere was electric. I was a lucky guy looking back
the other night i was watching this dvd and i love this live version so much ! LESS NOTORIOUS LESS HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF more of this, more of First and Medazzaland !
I get your point, but in a way Andy was always a bit of a fish out of water with Duran. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great, great guitarist, but see, everyone else besides him is kinda cool, sophisticated, 80's basically, whereas he just wants to rock out. When I saw their 2005 reunion in Milan I was really blown away by the amount of energy and heavy distortion he brought to the sound. But I wasn't surprised to hear he left again after that. He just seemed different from the others.
great band. The sound still holds up. I just want to add that Andy never got the attention he deserved. He was awesome in this band and they would've been nothing without him.
It took those five SPECIFIC guys to make DD what they were!! Take out any one of them in the early days and they would have gotten nowhere! As a musician myself I’m very aware of how delicate band chemistry is and how hard it is to find the right mix of people to make it work!! 👊🏽😁🎶🎶
Glenda Ramos he totally is!!! i just saw Simon live this month and he is still beautiful and totally mesmerizing😍😍 my heart was pumping just watching him and John in person for the 1st time!! Jennifer Smith
Wish there had been more close ups of John Taylor's string popping there at the end. Actually just a video of his hands during this performance would've been great. When you're learning you might as well learn from the best.
Andy is such an amazing guitarist. I feel that his ‘rock / metal’ drive is what helped them to stand out from the other pop bands of the time. And that room is what allowed them to define what Duran Duran could be into the future .
This is amazing thank you for posting. It would be a dream to hear them play this song, Sound of Thunder, Khanada (and other amazing b sides) live during one of their concerts now
Simon I love you! Nick i love you too John i named my 1st born after you Nigel You all have been such an amazing part of my life, now that I know my life is ending... I just wanted to say thank you
I wish that Andy Taylor was still part of Duran Duran.
Andy Taylor, one of the best guitarists of the 80's for sure. What a unique sound and attack. Brilliant rhythm guitarist with endless groove
Agreed. Andy was & always has been a badass individualist guitarist.
He's classically trained I believe, yes?
He also made major contributions to the song writing. The songs went downhill a bit after he left

Andy has a key role in the band, not only his amazing groovy guitar but also his backing vocals were amazing.

Love these early duran appearances...
Their voices sound really good for a live performance.
That’s one of the best parts of this group is they sound awesome live
It was sort of odd mot hearing any audience noise. As if they were performing to themselves.Did anyone else feel like that?

Exactly!
Andy's guitar performance is flawLESS~~~~~~~ Andy IS an invaluable asset of Duran Duran, Andy is just IRreplaceable!!!!!!!
THIS is DD to me. Not 3 and Warren, or 4 and Dominic. All 5. I full well know the Andy story. So it'll always be incomplete to me without him.
As a 45 year old black male, I think Duran Duran is the best rock band ever assembled.
Simon was beautiful when he was young. He’s still got it though. He exudes a sexy charisma even in his golden years.
Hell yes. He's been my favorite since 1982 when I first saw Hungry Like the Wolf. Those eyes and lips get me every time.
#scorpio 😂❤
I've never understood his appeal. Always thought he was the odd one in a band of knockouts. He always reminds me of a baby waiting for his Milupa.
I still like Andy. He is a good guitarist and good back up vocals. He also gave them assertiveness and experience when the band was first starting out. Not to mention song/music writing.
If DD should have gone the rock path they would have been huge.
But someone didn't want that strategy.

As it was proven after the band fractured in 1986.
Andy was key to DD success.
Simultaneously funky, moody, and urgent; this song is seriously slept on! This live version is superb.
Yes I'm out here. Great song.
These bass lines are killer
I kind of wish Duran Duran made a music video for this song. It is a favorite of mine. : )

good reminder that Duran Duran was actually a rock band. no need for collaborations or synth bass. I wish they'd get back to basics like this.
+haro82 Wish music these days got honest again with an anger, an edge and sense of old fashioned INNOVATION. I hate producers now.
+haro82 and what is wrong with synth bass?
Nothing really, but I prefer having one of the best bass players out there actually playing bass guitar. The new album is a lot of drum machine and synth.

Then why depeche mode have a more following which is a synth band? they don`t even have a bass player.
