- Put Toyota and SUV in the same sentence and you have a winning formula. This is why when the Toyota Harrier is officially offered by UMW Toyota in Malaysia, it flew off the shelves from the moment it landed on our shores.
When the fourth-generation Toyota Harrier was announced, many were sceptical about the 2.0L naturally aspirated engine and CVT box. Claiming it was a downgrade compared to the previous turbo & 6AT combo.
However, sceptics were quickly proven otherwise by the sales number. If you are still not convinced, watch on to see what Adrian has to say.

Those saying better buy this better but that are clearly not the target buyer
It's a subjective topic in terms of how we define a vehicle as being a luxury model, but man, a vehicle that suffers from wind noise at above 80km/h, an aftermarket like infotainment screen, a CVT gearbox and an asthmatic engine for an asking price of Rm250k? Does all that shortcoming it suffers from still qualify it as a luxury model? Lol!😅

Hope the facelift Harrier gets the same turbo engine as the Lexus NX350, or a new hybrid variant.

@@NinoPanino Well that cannot be avoided really, thanks to our excise duties. Plus, Harriers usually only come in CBU form. The hybrid could be a nice balance of performance and efficiency. But will it get tax rebates for being a hybrid?

An underpowered engine but overall a very satisfying ride and comfort.
My uncle ordered a GLA 250 during MCO and no demo car at that moment, after he got his car he regrets immediately. Because no traditional gear knob, and the car always brake itself when he wants leaving the parking lot. Now he saw his friend bought Recon Harrier, don't know how is his feeling.
I have been drvg around 6 months since last Aug 2021 and so far so good..n it is indeed a very comfortable car, and the speed 185-200km/h d on highway still comfortable..i really hope umw will bring 2.5Hybrid in their next facelift :)
very good experience with that car however the latest camry 2.5 df it's a very good engine compared to predecessor and it's cheaper than this one

Hands down one of the most supple riding, balanced handling SUVs out there. Love the seats and cabin. Just needs the RAV4's 2.5-litre powerplant!
But 2.0 Dynamic Force Engine NA is also good power with more top speed and good acceleration but better fuel consumption for this Harrier
Yeah, but too bad there isn't a 2.5L Dynamic Force variant with the 8-speed auto. That would have made this car perfect for those of us who won't fancy the 2.5 hybrid..
2.5L will be better
2.0 Dynamic Force Engine is also good enough, at least better than third gen Harrier that uses 2.0 turbo with 180 km/h for top speed
Better than the cx8?
I prefer last version harrier which got Turbo enginee with 238HP & 350NM. Also the eagle claw logo rather than Toyota logo in front pannel.
But NA is more durable than turbo, even maintenance cost is also cheaper than turbo. Besides, Harrier 2.0NA top speed is better than previous Harrier turbo, even acceleration for Harrier 2.0NA is not as good as Harrier turbo, but it is not bad
no matter how good is the chassis wise, if the engine is out of breath at 110km/h then it is a pass for me. The 2nd gen Harrier with 2.4 engine is already a hard work on the highway. Not gonna to repeat the same experience again.
Why downgrade the engine from turbo to NA?

Looks very good, but I would prefer a faster engine. CX-5 turbo's engine is fast enough for me

Depends on your choices. But Harrier can’t compare with V60 as stationwagon and CX5 is budget car but not premium as this. Harrier 2.0 is affordable and cheaper than third gen Harrier
Well Cx5 is already almost end of its life probably a new one will come sooner or later while the V60 is not even the same class Harrier

Harrier looks nice but low horse power. The odometer maximum is 140km/hr...
I have test driven one unit. Feels like driving a truck. If you used to driving proton x70 or x50, you won't enjoy the drive as you can't get the power with 2litre engine without turbo. But it's comfortable ride. Steering a bit hard. Hardly any response to acceleration especially if you want to overtake.
Lexus is responsive & powerful. Toyota harrier require modern engine actually to make it to a best car list.
How can you call this a "Proper Premium SUV" when it has such a tiny, aftermarket looking center screen? And such a weak engine!
Equip it with the larger center screen, and also the 2.5L Dynamic Force Engine, and then we're talking...
that 2.5 df only available in overseas it's not sold in our market the largest center screen is only available in overseas because in our market it doesn't have a official mcmc approval even in sg at least in sg gets a hybrid model and larger engine capacity 2.5 df

The Camry, at RM200k is much better equipped IMHO

@@aimanfitri0ivactually I think it's normal for companies to release products that are not the best bang for buck; but it's the duty of the reviewers to call it out as they see it. It is also their duty to highlight other potential options that someone who has RM250k to spend on a car, to consider.
IMHO, the Harrier, even if priced at RM200k, is still a poorer value when compared to the Camry. And even that itself is not exactly the best bang for buck.
So, at RM250k, with a weak engine and a joke of a center screen, the Harrier is absolutely poor value.
@@teelim by the way is not a weaker engine it's still decent enough and that headunit you can forget about it because at least it has apple carplay and android auto because in our market we don't get the bigger headunit because of the radio frequency
To be honest, the new facelifted Camry with the new 2.5 DF engine priced at 200k is more of a bargain than this. The SUV craze makes no sense to me while Camry still has TNGA magic.

Harrier is bascially like people who wanna drive lexus but i cant. so they pay more to feel that way.. but they dont get that same lvl of luxury.
Even a Nissan Almera can feel luxury but cwn it feel luxury and comfortable at the same time?
It is much easier to sell back the harrier as it has very good resale value is good..easy to to trade in for another new harrier or other cars coz some people will sell it back upon reaching 80k or 100k km mileage

5 things toyota will take years of time to start using in their car: turbocharged engine, dct transmission, super large bezel less infotainment system, high quality cameras, and latest tech (remote engine start, auto parking, etc)
The deal breaker for me is the zero towing capacity. Not even a jet ski.... that is sad.
Still cannot beat Mercedes Benz MBUX system.

Ugly interior and after market look to the center display is so upsetting. For that price, many better alternatives. Toyota is really lagging behind the competition, still stuck in the 90s
at least it's functional and easy-to-use so it's better than nothing but you can consider other options than this one
I'm pretty sure the "better alternatives" are compromised in certain areas too. CX5 is more powerful but smaller and without ACC, no ADAS on Tiguan, the Germans are more powerful but not as spacious nor well equipped as Harrier.

Depends on your taste. But looks better than third gen Harrier, especially when comes to interior. And steering wheel for third gen Harrier looks cheap than new Harrier steering wheel
I can afford to buy this cash but don't think it matches the GLA250, XC40 or even X1. Its way too underpowered to compete in the premium segment.

But it is better than third gen Harrier. This harrier using 2.0 NA Dynamic Force Engine which is good power. Even Harrier 2.0 NA acceleration is not as good as third gen Harrier but not bad and top speed is also greater which is 190 km/h than third gen Harrier

The head unit is just super ugly, and its smack in the middle of the dashboard.
Depends on your taste. But at least dashboard especially head unit looks good. Even head unit screen size is larger compare to third gen Harrier
OMG 250k for the most horrible toyota infotainment somemore with button so thick bezel like old TV and so small like a cheapo car only. Hope UMW can realise how funny to put this on its car. No wonder buyers who bought the Harrier are laughing really hard at the X50 bcos will this infotainment can be easily swop out for the best unit in some Ah Beng Shop out there the X50 is just beauty skin deep only probably the mechanics are the one enjoying the X50 infotainment system at some SC some where
