We have an outlander awc. The regular model, did not want 20 inch tires for off road in Idaho. Put bf Goodrich trail t/a on. Gets significantly better gas mileage than advertised for highway 33 at 75. 36 at under 70. Town right on. 25000 miles. No problems. 34000 out the door 2022. In California, from Idaho. But go back and forth. Has some options. Watch the dealerships. Try ripping us off in service department. Said needed back brakes and rotors. Lies. I’ve worked on cars and we watch Scotty Kilmer.
We purchased an Outlander se a year ago and absolutely love it. We had a RAV4 purchased new as well. We are getting a second Outlander this weekend. We are trading in our Wrangler. I used to own2020 CRV EXL, really like that car unfortunately it got stolen a month ago. I live near Philly take a guest who stole my car. I spend 3 weeks looking to buy another car frustrated and confused didn't know which car to buy. Was thinking of buying a used 2022 CRV EXL 9K miles. The Honda dealer wanted $34,124.21 OTD. Today the light bolt in me light up. I made decision on the Mitsubishi outlander. I don't care about resale value. I do care about reliability. But with the warranty from the company it should be good. Thanks guys!
Got a black sel premium with grey seats and I love it 🫡 got a lot of discounts with my military/ owning a 2015 outlander sports (gave it to my sister) it was 52k and I got it drop to 47k with all my discounts! It's been 3weeks and I haven't had to put gas in it! I mostly just use it to drive to skool and back!
The Outlander's 24/31 mpg with CVT is surpassed by the Rav4 27/34 with their base model non hybrid engine. This engine also has more horsepower (203 vs 181). So the argument that we need CVT's for better fuel consumption doesn't seem valid.
Guys - thanks for creating content we want to see. This video is great example - RAV4 vs Outlander. The former the best seller, the latter the slightly cheaper 3 row.
great video. thank you for highlighting important features like the reliability, fog-lights, and third row; while also unemphasizing unimportant worthless electronic gizmos like proximity sensors, wireless charging, huds, screen size, push button starts that only exist to inflate car msrps
I am very happy that you've added reliability and resale value to your rankings. If there was a way to also add a cost of ownership over 5yrs for example, that might be useful to some also.
Just last year I was looking for my very first new car, thinking of these two exactly. But since Mitsubishi dont sell Outlander in Europe anymore I chose Rav4 hybrid 4x4 instead and despite I really wanted Outlander, I absolutely love my Toyota now 😊😊🇨🇿. Thanks for video !
Me too. My Gma has a RAV4 but my uncle has the new Outlander, and I prefer the design of the Outlander although the RAV4 is definitely a better financial choice.
How can you tell reliabilty when the Outlander is only 2 years old and MPG? Comparing Gas vs Hybrid. Resale? How much more you will pay with Rav4 when new, you can get an Outlander less than MSRP while RAV4 is 5k$ more than MSRP. How about warranty of 10 year 100k miles.😊
@@wsu610 Reliability - Based on the past reliability history of mitsubishi. Price -- though Toyota is pricey you would still end up with less costs due to least issues, less maintenance, more mpgs and highest resale values. 10 years warranty -- You need it or else you cant be peaceful for Outlander but you don't need that for Toyota as you already know it lasts for more than 10 years easily.
The review is not about Mitsubishi as a whole. Did you watch the review? Did you see the whole line up of Mitsubishi cars or Toyota for that matter? Comparing with Regular vs Hybrid is not fair isn't it? Price is not accurate as well. An XSE hybrid for 36k$? Cmon.

I had a 22 Outlander SEL SAWC..... it was a great car. Made the mistake of trading on a Dodge Hornet, which is a love hate relationship. It is a fantastic car when its not in the shop. Which has been multiple times for a total of over 30 days in the 5 months I have owned it. Pursuing a buyback under the lemon law. Then I'm going back to the Outlander but will go with the phev this time.
I bought my Outlander Aspire (Australian) 4 weeks ago after looking at numerous different other SUV's, very pleased with it so far, the tech is fantastic. I also only paid A$45,000 for it on the road with an EOFY deal - very happy
Long time Toyota owner - chose the Outlander - better interior, better handling, better AWD system, more tech features, better looking and got it below MsRP with EV credit (bought out lease)
Bought a 2022 outlander with tech great value for the money it looks a lot better than the RAV and longer warranty so far after 3 years no issues and the seats are like lounge chairs. Interior on Mitsubishi is definitely a lot more attractive.
I lease suv for 3 yrs. So reliability doesn’t matter when you lease. What matters is comfortable ride and better warranties. I am getting my outlander next week.
This is a biased review. My 2024 Outlander has Rain sensing wipers. It also has wireless apple car play. Not sure about Android Auto cos I don't use Android in the car.
I have both. My wife has the hybrid RAV-4 ando have the outlander. For city driving the outlander saves way much gas if you charge it every night. But for traveling at highways the RAV 4 will save more gas. If you really want to compare the potency of the outlander you must change the driving mode to e power!! You’ll see the difference !!
I am actually renting the Outlander today, and just finished driving approximately 350 miles. This is the SE version. I don’t like the very darty steering, especially on the interstate. The vehicle goes left and right at the slightest movement of the steering wheel. I like a fast ratio steering setup as much as the next guy, but this is ridiculous. I also can’t figure out the transmission shifter, it is not intuitive at all, and I always have to try a few times to get it into reverse. Also, the front seats are shaped to make your body curve forward, uncomfortable on long drives, and the adjustable lumbar support isn’t enough. The power is so-so, but today I got 31.3mpg driving mostly 70-75mph. Everything else is either good, or at least adequate.
Have to remember no one paying msrp for outlander but you are for rav4. Likely large discount. Also reliability kind of a wash with much better warranty. Net buy what you like more.
does the Outlander go hard or is it laggin on performance power , cause the 2025 is soon to come in australia i wonder if they got a better engine for the car
I got myself The 2022 Mitsubishi SEL trim . after looking at Toyota rav4 and Nissan rouge and yhea Mitsubishi was better price and better looking . and today 2024 I still have and love this SUV Good Job Mitsubishi
Something that is underestimated is the stability and Maneuverability . Which RAV4 has a dangerous history in it and normally Mitsubishi receives high scores on that. To those that are interested on this topic, check the Moose test for both. For me RAV4 is disqualified totally because of that
I have looked at both, both are great looking cars but I loved the XSE Rav 4 exterior/ interior a lot better plus Toyota offers you a Capped service for 5 years. Mitsubishi 10 years warranty is good but the services are very Expensive plus to have 10 years warranty you have to get them to service it. I have ordered an XSE Rav 4 Toyota’s the only bad thing is the 18 month wait for Hybrid RAV4’s.
Outlander is not really an underdog. Its not really good in Canada. Many phev owners have trouble starting them in winter. Battery shuts off to protect mode
Here in Australia, PHEV got fringe benefit tax (FBT) exemption up to April 2025. So, getting a PHEV using Novated Lease WILL cost a lot less than buying a hybrid (they are considered conventional vehicle), even compared with a full EV vehicles. Using the Novated Lease calculator, the cost is almost half for hybrid/conventional vehicles, but just about 5% less against a full EV vehicle. If hybrid cars got a plug-in, it can be considered as a PHEV. Too bad, RAV4 (and most if not all hybrid cars) in Australia does not have that option. For me, the best option at the moment is getting the Mitsubishi Outlander with Novated Lease.
With it sharing much of its body with the Nissan rogue I could never purchase one due to this. I drove a loaded one my neighbor has to pick up a tv and it had absolutely no power. RAV4 is my pick!
They forget to mention that outlander full Japan made and RAV4 not made in Japan as before Outlander win always and after new design and new technology outlander resale will be very high and very good
Hi there we just bought the Outlander phev in Ontario Canada and you failed to mention that the 2-year maintenance program is only available if you lease not finance second of all rain sensing wipers are available and the heads up display is only available on the top of the line GT model
I bought my first RAV4 last year. I have had absolutely no issues with it. My sister had a Mitsubishi, but it wasn't this particular model. The initial quality wasn't bad, but it was all downhill from there. Mitsubishi has never been a reliable vehicle for anyone! Mitsubishi almost always ranks near the bottom of the reliability list, where Toyota always ranks at number 1. My wife and I took a tour of the plant in Georgetown Kentucky. I was thoroughly impressed at the way everything was out together, quality checked throughout the process. They have their own book of the quality manufacturing process, and it has to be followed to the T. If their is a problem, the line is immediately stopped and the process or parts are then replaced or fixed, then the line can start again. We were there for about 2 hours, and the line never stopped once. I will always be a Toyota customer for that reason!
The Rav 4 has way too much cheap blackout plastic everywhere and looks silly as a result. The Mitsubishi wins on exterior styling. The Outlander also has a nicer interior with more soft touch points like the armrest and door panels. Another plus is 4K off window sticker on the Outlander, something I'm not seeing on the Toyota. It probably would have been better to compare a normal 2.5 gas engine Rav 4 and not a hybrid to better match these 2 up
This is an informative video that is coming as my wife and I consider our most likely last new car. I’m really impressed with the Mitsubishi overall. I love the warranty, and that it’s the underdog. I also like the many models to choose from. Having owned a 2017 C-Max hybrid and having no issues in 72,000 miles makes me very interested in the PHEV unit. Thanks for giving me new information
Only in Mitsubishi can trust my safety ..We have our Lancer 2012 a great car still running good. And having to pick up my RVR SE 2024,..outlander is very big for me alone,..but if you have kids and big family Outlander the best,..❤
A Rav4 Prime vs. the Outlander PHEV would have been a better comparison for those with questions about them. I did my research but was not able to secure a Rav4 Prime; I went with the Outlander PHEV. You won't have to wait years or pay over MSRP for it. Leasing it gets you the tax credit at the time of this writing, but I always recommend test driving and doing your own research.
Outlander has rain sensing wiper, headlight washer, great engine, made in Japan, plug in hubrid, lane keep, Super all wheel drive system which is better than Toyota.
My friend have the 2010 Lancer 350K in mileage still best running,.. any product of Mitsubishi is the best,..plus 10year warranty,..free all the time,..but parts are durable it will last forever even 15years no mechanics just oil change it every time,..❤
I have watched a couple of review videos of the Outlander. In the other one, you mentioned it has 80 cubic square feet of cargo behind the front row but the Mitsubishi site says it only has 64.3 for 2024 vs it did have 80 for 2023. That would also mean the cargo space would be larger on the 2024 Rav4 vs the 2024 Outlander. The piece that doesn't seem to make sense is every other measurement between the 2023 and 2024 is the same, so the only thing that changed was a decrease of cargo space, by 15 cubic square feet. Anyone have any idea where that cargo space would have gone or is the Mitsubishi site just wrong.
I currently own a 2023 Mitsubishi RVR or Outlander Sport, depending on where you live. I put a deposit a RAV4 Hybrid in May and am still waiting, they're saying that, unless I get a cancellation, it could be as long as March or April 2025 before I get it. No real rush because I have a reliable vehicle but the wait times here in Canada are ridiculous. I agree with those who said the comparison should have been "Outlander to RAV4 gas" or "PHEV to Hybrid" but I guess the similar price criteria wouldn't work. The gas only Mitsubishi is, in my opinion, underpowered by comparison. The reliability is actually slightly better in the Mitsubishi (according to Consumer Reports) and the warrantee is unbeatable but, the acceleration, fuel economy and spare tire of the RAV4 Hybrid was the deciding factor for me. I also don't use the sunroof so it's not a bonus for me to even have one, much less a panoramic sunroof.
I was given a wait time of 6.5 months for rav 4 hybrid xle. Booked in Aug 2024 for 1st March 2025 delivery. Let's see I they deliver on time. (GTA Canada )
I just traded in the 21 RAV4 for the 22 outlander n I have to say the outlander is pretty nice I even looked at the Santa Fe n the Sorento I wasn’t going to pay over 40,000 dollars so I went for the outlander that is used
The only thing that gave the Toyota the win was resale/reliability. I read that and it says to me that I should be a used Outlander PHEV in 2025 or 2026. I'll still get 8 years of warranty and it will be a bargain price.

@@SW-ur3uo Yes..as long as they did develop an efficient battery and Hybrid drive on the way and implemented that...
We tested Hyundai and Mazda top SUV’s, my wife thinks that the ride quality and comfort of the vehicle is superior to the other vehicles.
I'm on my fourth Mitsubishi Outlander lease.
Glad that I will buy a fully loaded 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
I’m waiting for mine
I just bought mine
I just got mine
Great video. Thanks for the info
The longer warranty for the Mitsubishi is a strong advantage.
Excellent job, boys. Another Stellular review and very fair comparison.
Thanks!
The outlander has rain sensing windshield wipers
& also has wireless CarPlay just letting you know the SE has it
You can also easily add a spare to the Mitsubishi
I am pretty sure the Outlander SEL has rain sensing wipers. Also has headlight washers
I have a 2024 and can confirm this is true. The rain sensing wipers wipe a tad too slow for me though lol. I manually adjust
Reliability, mpgs and Resale value make RAV4 the winner. But I really liked that interiors of Outlander.
@@wsu610
Reliability - Based on the past reliability history of mitsubishi.
Cmon.
@@Gopinathk17and why would you give 10 year warranty if you are not sure with the cars reliability? Go be a member of both car groups and youll see what im talking about.
Excellent comparison as per usual!😸
I’d take a Mitsubishi over a Toyota any day
I had a 22 Outlander SEL SAWC..... it was a great car.
What good is a review of Rav Prime if we can’t get one for two years?
There is an Outlander PHEV as well
This is a biased review. My 2024 Outlander has Rain sensing wipers. It also has wireless apple car play. Not sure about Android Auto cos I don't use Android in the car.
I’ve got almost 200k miles and counting on my Outlander Sport with just regular maintenance, so the choice is clear for me and my wallet.
It completely makes no sense to compare Hybrid with Non-Hybrid vehicle.
Wish the Outlander had a 3d row delete option with a spare tire. Great review! ❤️✌🏻✌🏻❤️
But you can have both spare tire and 3rd row seat. You just need to buy ones for Nissan Murano, under the 3rd row seat there's a place for spare tire.
Agreed, I’m actually considering taking the third row out myself and fabricating insert hold a spare.
I enjoy your videos very much!
Happy to hear that!
Also Mitshubishi don’t overcharge, servicing of easier as less customers
Have to remember no one paying msrp for outlander but you are for rav4. Likely large discount. Also reliability kind of a wash with much better warranty. Net buy what you like more.
Which has a better Transmission history Toyota or Mitsubishi. I dont like cvt's
I have the exact same car, and the outlander has a spare tire under both compartments in the boot.
You're In error. Mitsubishi has rain sensing wipers too. Even the outlander sport has these.
does the Outlander go hard or is it laggin on performance power , cause the 2025 is soon to come in australia i wonder if they got a better engine for the car
I got myself The 2022 Mitsubishi SEL trim . after looking at Toyota rav4 and Nissan rouge and yhea Mitsubishi was better price and better looking . and today 2024 I still have and love this SUV Good Job Mitsubishi
The Outlander looks so different from anything out there, and the fact you can get one well equipped for under 30K is a big plus.
Wow, as I'm reading the comments below, looks like the Mitsubishi Outlander is the clear winner. I believe majority of people root for the underdog.
Toyota has slightly better engine but that's where the it ends, the rest goes to Outlander!
Nice video!
They forget to mention that outlander full Japan made and RAV4 not made in Japan as before
Outlander win always and after new design and new technology outlander resale will be very high and very good
Hi there we just bought the Outlander phev in Ontario Canada and you failed to mention that the 2-year maintenance program is only available if you lease not finance second of all rain sensing wipers are available and the heads up display is only available on the top of the line GT model
The Mitsubishi looks much better and the PHEV is great👍
I would definitely pick the Outlander
Very Happy with my 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander phev, very nice SUV!!!
Glad it was helpful! Good luck with your decision!
Only in Mitsubishi can trust my safety ..We have our Lancer 2012 a great car still running good. And having to pick up my RVR SE 2024,..outlander is very big for me alone,..but if you have kids and big family Outlander the best,..❤
The mitsy has character and finesse, ive got a 2.3 di-d and its an animal that will go anywhere.
Tell me where to get a 36k$ Rav4 XSE hybrid?
For me the mitsubishi is best in this segment 😅
Amazing video, thank you both!
Glad you enjoyed it!
you guys are missing one important thing: how refined and smooth the engin and transmission feel
It would be good to get the MPG for the plug-in hybrid options for both cars and the extra cost for that option.
I will choose Mitsubishi ❤
Why does the sticker on the mitsubishi windshield say 2022 if this is a 2024 comparison
That chime on the RAV4 😂.
Of cource my pick is Toyota Raw 4, because it is hybrid and mutch bettter reabitity, reasale value
Outlander has the better warranty. You have to figure in the cost of repairs
outlander also has hybrid phev variant.
