      🥰 Thanks so much, Karl ☺️🙏👍✊
      It’s what I HOPE, of course, as there are plenty of TH-camrs who DO catch plenty of big fish for the cameras, and they deserve a lot of respect and views for doing so, but that’s never going to be my speciality when I usually get to fish once a week at best. Still, it needn’t stop me having the occasional go, or trying new places and ways to fish 😀 🎣🐟
      It’s just great to get comments like this and know that when I do have a go for a biggie and it doesn’t happen, it can still make for a nice watch. Cheers for now and tight lines 🎣🐟

    Hi John, I've fished this stretch a few times and enjoyed watching your outings here.
    On my last visit I fished the swim you were in , with Carp rods, trying for specimen fish but without any success. I managed to take a few small Perch out using small rubber lures on dropshot and watched a large Pike cruise past in front of me!
    I usually see the Kingfisher and Herons at this venue and always Parakeets and on my last visit a Cormorant came and sat on the beach nearby to dry off its wings after fishing,
    My most successful visit here was to a spot about three swims downstream of where you were fishing where I caught a Bream and a Chub on ledgered pellet and a decent sized Perch on dropshot. Haven't really worked out what works where yet, but I do enjoy fishing the venue.

    • @themagicoffishing
      @themagicoffishing  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cheers Kevin - really good to hear from a fellow member and someone else who has a bit more experience of the place. Good to know I’m not the only one still trying to work it out, too ☺️ I’ve seen a friendly lure angler there, just for the first hour of the morning, twice, and he had a pike the first time and a perch the second. There are so many places to try just on that stretch aren’t there? And this the only ‘problem’ with doing a TH-cam channel - I’m often trying new places and new things, rather than really sinking my teeth into one place (not that I mind!). I also fancy trying right up at the weir, maybe with rolling meat. Good to hear you’ve had some success there and I’d love to try a more traditional feeder and float approach again - perhaps a little further down as you say 👍

    Hi John, another great video. I love your enthusiasm for all types of fishing. I’m not into sitting watching a tip myself but I love the rivers you fish and definitely love the trotting and especially catching quality roach, chub, dace etc on lighter tackle. Don’t give up though, you are definitely putting the hours in and it’s just a matter of time until you catch one of the big ones you’re after.

    • @themagicoffishing
      @themagicoffishing  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ah, thanks a lot, Graham! Comments like that keep me going (in terms of making videos AND trying to catch different fish in different ways). As I said, it’s not something I’ve done much of or intend to do loads of, but it’s nice to try different things and WOULD love to catch a real bruiser or two from the Thames or Trent (for example) one day… In fact I’m off to the Trent again soon and hear it’s fishing hard but will definitely give all approaches a go and if I can get plenty of silvers going on the float then I’ll be happy even if the tip, or tips, aren’t going anywhere at other times! 😄 Thanks as always for your kind words 🙏🎣🐟

    Fishing videos shouldn't just be about editing and fish, personally i enjoyed the scene of you sitting under a brolly in the rain as i have some great memories of the cosy "isolation" it can bring as it cuts out your peripheral vision !

    Still an enjoyable video John, despite the big fish not showing up. Some of my most memorable days fishing were when I didn't catch the intended species, I think the anticipation of not knowing what's down there is equal to catching, so I'm sure you will get a big one this autumn, tight lines, and what a lovely place to see some quality roach caught trotting with the centrepin again!!Cheers Peter.

Hopefully things will pick up now we’re getting a bit more rain and although I don’t want to go down the route of only fishing one river, or doing one kind of fishing, I’ll definitely be exploring more of the Thames and trying for a river monster from time to time. Pleased for you, re-Korum. It's an exception though. Their stuff does break(landing nets and chairs being the most common), The lightness is because they use cheap aluminium that can't be repaired. Their 'customer service' is generally awful. I do think your suggestion, that it's because you are a tuber that they did what they did, is correct.

    • @themagicoffishing
      @themagicoffishing  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Cheers Steve, I must say I was very pleased as you saw! Can’t say I’ve experienced their customer service under ‘normal’ circumstances, as it sounds you have, but they were very helpful with me and the previous chair lasted me nearly a decade of pretty hard use, so no complaints there either. I’m not wedded to any one tackle manufacturer, although there are always a few favourites (Drennan, Preston, Matrix and Daiwa being some of mine), and a few that I’ll always have a soft spot for because they’ve been around for an age! 😀 Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏🎣🐟😎

    One of the top tips for big carp on the thames is prebaiting- even if its only 24 hours beforehand, they will come find it and move in - try not to do it in front of everyone or it will be noted by the more unscrupulous anglers...

    • @themagicoffishing
      @themagicoffishing  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Tip is duly noted and appreciated - I wish I lived a bit closer, but there are some stretches within a 30-40 minute round trip and I could consider a bit of prevailing if work and family life were both behaving… 🤔 In fact I recently got the same tip about a Thames tributary - the Loddon - where the head bailiff has had some nice barbel and carp already this season. @themagicoffishing  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bert, it’s one of the most satisfying things in the world! Can’t recommend it highly enough. There are a few places you can buy it from, including tackle shops, but Copdock Mill is one of the best wholesalers. A few retailers then sell it on, often via eBay if you use that - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185928460797?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=mr2roCwRQt6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=VTDPJtqaT0K&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
      5kg of uncooked seed will produce LOADS of pints of feed. 1kg fine if you just want to try a bit. Rinse them off in a sieve or colander. Then soak them for 12-24 hours in a big pot.
      Not essential, but I then add a few iron tablets (can buy online or from chemists), as they blacken off the cooked seeds nicely, plus a tablespoon of salt and the same of sugar.
      Then simmer for 1-2 hours until around a third of the seeds start splitting and showing the white kernel. You might need to keep adding a bit more water but make sure they are always covered.
      Then drain them off (but keep the liquid which is brilliant in groundbait once cooled). Use a bowl under the colander or sieve to do that, usually in the sink!
      Bag them up in 1-2 pint portions and freeze them with a bit of the liquid. Otherwise, if you haven’t got a freezer. the cooked hemp will last about a week in the fridge. Tight lines 🎣🐟

      Hi Angie. If you don’t have a local tackle shop then you should be able to shop around online for the best price. The normal version - amzn.eu/d/cQxnAvl - and the deluxe version - amzn.eu/d/aLItQV9 - are available from Amazon, for example. Angling Direct would be another option. They aren’t cheap but sure are top of the range! The barrow kit (and lots of other accessories) are available separately.

    I’ve got the electric version of the korum deluxe chair it’s fantastic I think it’s the only one in the world because I made it myself 😂 I could be wrong though

      You have just cracked me up, early in the morning on what promises to be one of the wettest Monday’s ever 😂 I was reading, half asleep, and thinking ‘don’t think they make an electric one…’ 🤔 Love a bit of DIY and innovation 👏🎣

      It’s a dream to use can carry 40kg of gear and get over 4 miles maybe even more never ran the thing flat it’s made from the bottom of a golf trolley and some box section I welded to the trolley the same way it is on your barrow wheel and it slots in the same bracket i flipping love it but it shows how easy it would be for korum to do the same and sell as a accessory ❤

    Enjoyed this, suprised you didn't land the pike though, you usually do when a roach is grabbed!
    (Don't know if its my phone but your replies to the comments are copies of the actual comments?)

      Thanks Martyn! And, yep, I’ve had a decent track record of landing pike so far this season 🤣 I genuinely thought ‘here we go again…’ Do you know what, though, I’ve since been wondering if I actually lost a massive perch. Or rather it was a massive perch that had the roach and let go. I say massive because it certainly had the weight of a small pike. I’d be gutted if so, as you may have seen me land a PB perch of just under 4lb after it grabbed a dace while I was fishing on the Bridge Pool in Christchurch?! In other words, I’ve got form for managing to get them out, too, but we will never know… The reason I say it is that the roach had lost a lot of scales either side, like it had been gripped by a rough mouth, rather than a set of sharp teeth. When a roach is grabbed by a pike they are usually more cut up. Glad you enjoyed this video and thanks for commenting. I’m heading back to my beloved Trent today! Maybe some more pike to come… 😬😄🎣🐟
      P.S. I’ve just checked and my comments or replies seem to be showing as normal to me, so it could be the app on your phone - try a restart? But thanks for letting me knows as I wouldn’t be happy if people thought I was replying to their comments with their own words back at ‘em!

    You are finding out how tough the thames can be for big fish but don’t worry we will get you there.
    Now I’m off to do some more practicing before a weeks time. Mainly so you don’t totally humiliate me in the north v south
    match of the year.
    By the way I’ve heard a few stories about the bottom end of the section doing a bigger stamp of roach so I will check that out early next week. The former match secretary said he had a massive perch down there last week so that’s something else to have a look at

      P.S. I’ve got a LOT of worms if they might be put to some use. Ordered a sack of red worms (the kind that come in manure) and was sent TWO. Two sacks of red worms… 🫨🤔🐟

      You’re more than welcome to say! 😄 I fancied it, too, when the the back eddy was heading that way, but after all the rain it started ripping downstream and away from those lovely looking branches. Maybe next time. Thanks for watching and commenting - really does mean a lot 😎🎣🐟
