    0:00 back to Memphis
    4:28 stuff you gotta watch
    7:04 stage fright
    11:15 remedy
    15:04 Ophelia
    18:17 it makes no difference
    23:55 rag mama rag
    27:29 crazy mama ( love how Levon and Richard have cigarettes in their mouths and Levon drops it from his mouth on the weight it’s so funny)
    32:37 the weight
    37:42 stand up ( what’s the instrument that makes that twang and who plays it? )
    40:44 deep feeling ( instrumental)
    46:46 free your mind
    50:46 shape I’m in
    55:03 I don’t want to
    59:40 chest fever ( love ricks glasses)
    I mostly did this to make it easier for me but hopefully I got the times right for everyone if anyone sees this. Edit: I just noticed this. It looks like levon’s playing his left drumstick upside down on a lot of songs. I’ve never seen him do that before has anyone else? Or is it a double sided one?

      Re the instrument that makes the twang in Stand Up - I think it's Garth playing a clavinet setting on his keyboard through some other effect that adds a bit of a jaws harp sound to it. He used the same effect on the recording of Up On Cripple Creek I think.

      Holding the stick with the butt end (thicker end) is fairly common. It adds more weight to the stick; he may have done it to achieve a louder sound, or wanted a heavier feel in his hand, or both

    • @oskarileikos
      @oskarileikos ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brendanhodge7713having more weight in the stick makes it bounce better! That's why you want heavier sticks (if you do) - as far as I know.

      Thanks for the reply. Sorry for that one comment. Yes, I use to think that same thing after I read Levon's book but I have recently read Robbie's book and I've come away with a different slant. The stories in the early part of both books are similar but after the Woodstock era, the accounts differ re: Dylan reunion and Capitol Records, selling of the publishing rights, heroin use and being too f.... up to work, etc. Unfortunately, Robbie's book stops after the Last Waltz so I'm not sure why he didn't attend Richard Manuel's funeral.

      Rick B - Yes - I think Levon really put the nail in the coffin of his own credibility when he blamed Robbie for Rick's death. It wasn't the years of alcohol and hard-core drug abuse...it wasn't wear and tear resulting from Rick's own self-destructive tendencies... it was Robbie's greed. That sort of reasoning smells like denial coated in anger coated in bullshit.
      There's a million sides to every story ... and having read all the books that are out there on this sad subject, I see no reason to accept Levon's version as the gospel. Doesn't mean that I think Robbie's an angel...but he's not the Antichrist either.
      What a tragedy all around. Long live The Band.

    Wow, this 90s lineup was great! What a band! Rick, Levon, and Garth, plush Rick Bell and Jim Weider -- both great additions -- and the second drummer stops seeming pointless when Levon gets out front to play another instrument. I like this a lot better than the version they toured with in the 80s with the Cate Brothers.
    Danko was always my favorite Band vocalist, but that voice weathered and softened by age is just beyond gorgeous.

    Robbie left the band in 1976 after the last Waltz, he has a unique voice that is raspy and deep check out his solo stuff. he held the bottom down in the band. great writer penned alot of thier hits

    Must not be too heavy of a Band fan :D...Robbie left in 76' because he simply was tired of the road and wanted to kinda retired and relax besides playing out, wearing himself out with the drugs of the road, seeing his friends dieing more and more...he couldn't stand it....I don't blame him...Look what happened to Rick and Richard...the road had ALOT to do with it.

    more like a blues band then The Band, Rick's voice is kinda shot, I'm not glad I watched this.

    • @jamescarter3196
      @jamescarter3196 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Rick's voice is kinda not-on-cocaine-and-booze but his voice was solid. He was singing a lot of things more delicately than he used to and that doesn't mean he's phoning it in. It's pretty sad how many people are looking to feel sad about unimportant shit due to their own erroneous interpretations of what they're hearing here.

    I used to think as talented as Robbie Robertson he was the villan of the band and their breakup, but now I think it was Richard Manual and just the band in generals bigger then life drug use ( not against drug use but at some point it becomes depressing. But I don't want to make villans of them either. It was beautiful while it lasted but Beauty never last, and must be appritiated in the moment, or it leaves you. THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!!!!!!

    • @nicholasfurnari8691
      @nicholasfurnari8691 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I watch this particular concert largely for that moment! Haha. At the beginning of The Weight, Lee also lets his cigarette slip out of his mouth before singing, but it gets stuck on his lip for a second and Randy (second drummer) can be seen laughing his ass off.

    I could swear I watched some show in the 80's.. dunno if it was an awards show or what..and they introduced the Band (I assume this was around 83/84) and everyone went nuts.. I didn't know who they were - too young.. but then they made a big deal about Robbie Robertson coming out and joining them for a few songs.. it stuck with me because I wondered why everyone was making such a big deal about these guys. But I could be wrong..like I said I was young.

    At 32:38 Levon spits the cigarette out of his mouth just a second before he starts singing haha maybe he forgot he had a smoke in his mouth, that or he forgot he was just about to start singing “I pulled into Nazareth” haha when he sang the first line did anyone else hear what sounded like he sang NaTHareth not NaZareth :)
    Richard was beside him was playing and watching Levon play and saw the cigarette and was laughing. Levon never missed a beat like a true professional. I wonder who eventually got the burning smoke from under Levon :)
    Maybe the camera man who was filming Levon grabbed the cigarette before it burned the outer coating on some wires or something else :)
    Thank you for uploading this, I’ve watched it a couple of times or more.
    Rest in Peace to all members of the band, The Band playing here and Robbie Robertson who recently passed away.

    Is Robbie on the stage? If not, why not? And poor Rick looks unwell.

    • @AudioFileZ
      @AudioFileZ 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, I think guitarist, writer, and vocalist Robertson didn't want to be on stage. Jim Weider, Robertson's replacement, ended up touring with the band for almost fifteen years after they decided to regroup without Robertson, staying close and working with Levon until Levon's passing. You are right about Rick. His, to me at least, sudden weight gain and lack of color signaled something was definitely going on in his life that he lacked control of - and was spilling over into his health. I saw this version of the group and they really brought it for a 90-minute set when I saw them. Such consummate pros who loved playing. They left us all one of rock's richest audio legacies which many new ears discover every year.

    the rhythm section is not true to the orig Band's loping swing style. Two drummers remove The Band's once unique feel; now Helm has to drum in sych with the other drummer and the bass must slog along.

    • @emmacassidy8482
      @emmacassidy8482 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Two drummers worked brilliantly when it was Helm and his nephew Terry Cagle. They shared an almost clairvoyant understanding of each other. Not the case here.

    • @jamescarter3196
      @jamescarter3196 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh really, the "unique feel" is "removed"? Levon is following the new guy huh? The bass "must slog along"? What in the fuck are you even talking about? You're trying really hard to reimagine this performance as something that it isn't. I'm listening to it right now and everything you're saying is absolute nonsense. At least come up with some meaningful criticism that isn't easily disproven.
