This scene gives you a clue as to why Raph is always so angry, and so many people never even notice.. Raphael is wrestling with the fact that he cant live a normal life, and that he's an outsider and unlike the rest of the human population. He's mad that he has to be an outcast for looking so differently. And when Casey Jones calls him a "freak", Raphael's reaction says it all. It really hurts to be judged on looks for someone who's already an outcast. The scene with Master Splinter and Raph means that much more after understanding this.

I noticed just for the first time shredder has this troubled/worried look in his eyes when he says "something familiar...something from the past" i also noticed that master tatsu feels embarrasment/remorse after he goes crazy and start to attack his own foot soldiers

He's a crazy jock who beats up scumbags with sports equipment. It's such a simple, wonderful idea. He's like a good Jason Voorhees. He does look quite tough though, not too normal, I mean he looks like he would be good in a fight just by looking at him. He's a lot like a jock version of Indiana Jones. I think he'd have short hair if he was real though, that long hair would be a royal pain in the ass.
Actually he has a very definite style of fighting, but it is informal. He also utilizes stealth and intimidation in his vigilantism and even some gadgets (he listens to police radio and scouts with binoculars). Mask protects his face and sports equipment can be very efficient weapons. He's what Batman would be if he wouldn't have resources of Fiction 500-megacorp.
They should do a full motion picture about Casey Jones before he met the turtles. It said about the character here in the movie that he use to be professional hockey player til he got injured and his career ended. He had nothin else to do with his life but he loves his city and the good people that live their in the Big Apple so he decides to fight crime and protect the innocent
One of the best lessons taught in this film is the scene that follows, when Splinter contructively lectures Raph about his anger. Splinter: "Raphael, come sit by me." Raph: "Couldn't this wait 'til morning?" Splinter:"You will listen now!" *Splinter lights a candle* Splinter continues: "My Master Yoshi's first rule was: 'Possess the right thinking. Only then can One receive the gifts of strength, knowledge, and peace.' I have tried to channel your anger, Raphael, but more remains. Anger clouds the mind. Turned inward, it is an unconquerable enemy. You are unique among your brothers, for you choose to face this enemy alone. But, as you face it, do not forget them (his brothers), and do not forget me." Splinter then places a warm, loving hand/paw upon the head of Raph, who has his face down and tears in his eyes, and Splinter says, "I am here, my son."
I think I know now why Raphael was saying to Leonardo when they were at Aprils Apartment, ( So what do we do now? Leonardo: What do mean what do we do now? Raphael: Splinters out there somewhere). I guess Raphael did respect the advice Splinter gave him.
As an immigrant kid I had no idea what they were saying. But this movie was played so many times throughout my early childhood that I ended up memorizing the lines phonetically. Just last week I learned that Jose Canseco is a person, finally shedding light on the line "ahosay kunsakobat?"

The guy was accused of using performance enhancing drugs during his career in the MLB, and in 2005 he admitted that he was in fact doing drugs at that time. Also, it could just be because Raph didn't have any respect for Jose and simply did it to dig at Casey.

First saw this movie when I was 4, and despite having no idea why "you got understand what a CRUMPET is to understand cricket!" was funny for probably about 15-20 more years, I've quoted that line my entire life whenever applicable.
That line was pure money. Infinitely quotable, in fact I literally react with that whenever the sport is mentioned. I had completely forgotten about the gold that is, "a Jose Canseco bat? Tell me you didn't pay money for this." And "Pain 101, your instructor is Casey Jones." So many timeless qualities. Wish I could find a clip of the warehouse fight where Raph says, "Step up" as they're stomping the Foot.

Without a doubt one of the best scenes in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 considering that it shows Raphael's first encounter with Casey Jones. Add to the fact that the scene takes place at night makes it even more iconic and unforgettable.
This scene (and movie) in particular doesn't get credit for the cinematography. The lighting, the flow of dialogue, the music and the action is all so great. Simple and direct on the surface and a bit more substance of you analyze the characters personalities and interactions.
+Antichrist2000 It was largely adapted from the comic, with elements of the cartoon incorporated into it. The director said himself that he started with the comic because he was a big fan of it. Which is why their origin is almost exactly like the comic (Splinter always being a rat, for example, not human first). I've read the first five volumes of the original comic published by IDW and this movie is in-fact an adaptaion of the comic. For instance this scene with Raph and Casey meeting was taken from the Raphael One-shot "Me-Myself-and-I." Raphael getting clobbered was taken from the Leonardo one-shot "What Goes Around.... Comes Around" Only in the movie it's Raph Instead of Leo. The Shredder's Design is taken directly from the comic as is his origin. The turtles and splinters origin is taken from the comics. The fight with the Shredder on the rooftop at the end is from the first Issue. The Turtles, april, and Casey fighting and fleeing from the foot into the country is from issue 10 "Silent Partner" April Writing in her Diary about the Turtles and Casey on the farm is from issue 11 "True Stories" The Turtles going back to New York is from the three-part Story line "Return to New York"

First saw this movie when I was 4, and despite having no idea why "you got understand what a CRUMPET is to understand cricket!" was funny for probably about 15-20 more years, I've quoted that line my entire life whenever applicable.
That line was pure money. Infinitely quotable, in fact I literally react with that whenever the sport is mentioned. I had completely forgotten about the gold that is, "a Jose Canseco bat? Tell me you didn't pay money for this." And "Pain 101, your instructor is Casey Jones." So many timeless qualities. Wish I could find a clip of the warehouse fight where Raph says, "Step up" as they're stomping the Foot.

Without a doubt one of the best scenes in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 considering that it shows Raphael's first encounter with Casey Jones. Add to the fact that the scene takes place at night makes it even more iconic and unforgettable.

This scene (and movie) in particular doesn't get credit for the cinematography. The lighting, the flow of dialogue, the music and the action is all so great. Simple and direct on the surface and a bit more substance of you analyze the characters personalities and interactions.

+Antichrist2000 It was largely adapted from the comic, with elements of the cartoon incorporated into it. The director said himself that he started with the comic because he was a big fan of it. Which is why their origin is almost exactly like the comic (Splinter always being a rat, for example, not human first). In fact, the movie's plot follows much of the comic's early issues, like a turtle nearly getting killed (Leon in comic, Raph in the movie), April's apartment being destroyed, and them escaping to April's family house up north. It's also less fantastical like the comic. The Foot ninjas aren't robots, but part of a ninja clan. There is no Technodrome or Dimension X (though the Krang-like aliens appear). It's much more grounded, like this movie.
But with the cartoon taking off, the director added elements to it like the different colour bandanas and their love of pizza into the movie. So it's a bit of both, but with MUCH stronger leanings from the comic.
The multi-color bandanas, pizza preference, April working for a TV station came from the cartoon, the violence was toned down, and they created the original character Tatsu. But overall this movie was adapted from the Mirage comic books

Yeah, you really don't know do you? Have heard of the original comic? have you read it? Guess not. I've read the first five volumes of the original comic published by IDW and this movie is in-fact an adaptaion of the comic.
For instance this scene with Raph and Casey meeting was taken from the Raphael One-shot "Me-Myself-and-I."
Raphael getting clobbered was taken from the Leonardo one-shot "What Goes Around.... Comes Around" Only in the movie it's Raph Instead of Leo.
The Shredder's Design is taken directly from the comic as is his origin. The turtles and splinters origin is taken from the comics. The fight with the Shredder on the rooftop at the end is from the first Issue. The Turtles, april, and Casey fighting and fleeing from the foot into the country is from issue 10 "Silent Partner" April Writing in her Diary about the Turtles and Casey on the farm is from issue 11 "True Stories" The Turtles going back to New York is from the three-part Story line "Return to New York"
