    This is the best version of the Shredder I've ever seen. He doesn't have any apparent grand, over-the-top "I'm evil and I want to take over the world" scheme. His aim is simply to invoke a fear of the unknown amongst people (starting with New Yorkers) with his "silent crime wave" that none can or would dare to identify. And he does so by using all of these delinquents that he's corrupted and taken away from any source of love or positive influence that there could be in their lives, making them believe that they can be worth something as his pawns. In doing so, he gains power over New Yorkers through fear of the unknown and the theft of their future.

      @ZainR 10 ปีที่แล้ว +83

      This is why I like this Shredder compared to the new movie's version. The new version was just someone helping a corporation be super rich. I give the new one credit for giving an intimidating Shredder up until he's actually in the Transformers suit. But for this Shredder, I saw this one as being someone who's corrupting the youth, giving them a place to call home and making himself their "father" and in return they learn the art of invisibility and become apart of the Foot Clan and they can steal and do whatever they want.

    • @Shanethefilmmaker
      @Shanethefilmmaker 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      *****
      What's to say the kid gang isn't gonna be Shredder's back up plan in the new one? People forget that in the original comics Oroku Saki didn't take the turtles too seriously in a fight until they and Splinter bested them. He saw them as nothing more than freaks and children something he didn't shake off, but he learned from every mistake he made. Hell the 2014 movie is pretty much showing his escalation. He didn't have to do jack shit for a while, because before the turtles arrived, there was no one that could stop the foot. Then he finds out a bunch of vigilanties with martial arts experience bested his men, so he has them set a trap, which is pretty clever for a comic book villain. Then when he finds out what they are like in battle, that's when he uses the armor. The 90s Shredder when he found out the means of the turtles' mutation, he used it to make animals that could best them in combat and then used it on himself out of desperation. They may look different in appearance and tactics, but when it comes to thinking and learning about their enemies, both 90s and 2014 Shredder aren't all that different.

      The problem is that most filmmaking went all digital. Digital looks smoother and faker, and so much work on the lighting and overall look is done in post production with people that aren't cinematographers or lighting techs, and films end up with a set number of similar looks. Digital made things easier and cheaper, but sometimes ease breeds laziness and a lack of creativity and innovation.

    The Shredder in this film is one of the main things that made this movie so unforgettable. He was not the more clownish and one-liner spouting Shredder of the cartoon. He was a threatening Samurai warrior who ruled the Foot with an iron fist. He was a sadistic killer who murdered-not framed- both Hamato Yoshi and Tang Shen in cold blood. He was a manipulative monster who poisoned the minds of young teenagers who were already ostracized to steal for him, and punished them with violence if they failed. He kidnapped Splinter and hung him helplessly from the wall, torturing him to get information about the turtles. It’s that seriousness that really makes this film great, the humor perfectly balanced with the darker moments. They just don’t make then like this anymore.

    This man, Mr. James Saito, was the best shredder of them all. I love the roof fight with the turtles in the end. With all-do respect to the actors who replaced Saito in the sequals, but did you know that he was replaced in the sequals because he was too good as shredder? He was way too dark. Can you believe that?! :)

      He is, but James Saito did such a great job as Shredder, and he was so intense, that he had to be replaced in the sequal because they needed someone to tone it down to make it more G-rated for the kids.

      DOOMVSHALO I believe this film stays with us because of how young people can either be mentored or misled. Danny is really the character that has the biggest arc because his father doesn't understand or is indifferent to his inner turmoil. So Danny seeks out a charismatic father figure whom misleads all of his followers: the Shredder. But when he meets the captured mentor Splinter: he begins to lead back to a path inner peace and reconciliation with his father. "The Karate Kid" (1984) has a similar dynamic: the mentor (Myagi) and the misleader (Reese)..

If the fight had just kept going on how it had before that he would of eventually lost.

      Nicholas Mallard The mecha suit was designed so he was able to take on the turtles because they are stronger so he needed his armour to be stronger and for the 200th time it is not Michael Bays movie how many trailers have been out to tell you this small fact it is not his movie get it through your head he was 1 of 6 producers not the director.

      Vince Brown Didn't I just say to you in another comment section on this video that Micheal Bay was the producer for this film. The movie was garbage in my opinion and it reeks of Bay's BS!

    I remember seeing this in the movies and seeing Shredder enter the first time made me realize he's a lot more fearful and serious then the cartoons and I thought this was so awesome. No other movie can top this as many remakes as they like

      Even if you removed all franchise-elements from this film you would still have great story about enstrangement, parenthood and personal growth.

    TMNT 1990 isn’t just an incredible film but a cautionary tale for young people. A frightening preview of where we are at as a society. Urban decay, crime, broken homes, young people wanting so much to feel loved that they join this evil organization that has no problems preying on their desire to be part of a family. 33 years later, these themes are not only present but even worse as we see young people loot, rob and kill in our streets like in my hometown of Chicago. Here is a sobering reality. People like the Foot Clan and Shredder are in your cities. They may not have masks or sharp objects hanging off them but they are in your neighborhoods, your street corners, your blocks. Ready to corrupt your children. TMNT 1990 is movie about the power and love of family and how the idea of family can be twisted for evil.

      Too much CG these days.

      They use CGI to compensate for a lack of story. It's the cheap and easy way out.
