      Another way to be wasteful. let see if every American tossed away $20 worth of plastic every day . 350 million times 356 = tons and tons and tons of waist. This is why the rivers in other countries are plastic lined. When the world is trying to learn to use less of this you say "just toss it away".

    • @TheComputec
      @TheComputec ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @CalleOcho0830 Thats a bold claim... It's a theoretical solution.
      The following extract is from a review of the study you are likely referencing:-
      "How much plastic can a group of very hungry caterpillars eat? According to the scientists, about 60 waxworms chewed through a matchbook-sized square of plastic bag in under a week. Clearly, the world would need a lot of caterpillars to solve its plastic problems"
      It appears that the bacteria in their guts are what enables them to digest plastic material such as polyethylene. Developing products that contain or mimic those organic digesters would be the way forward but we are decades away from that kind of solution being available
      Plastics are currently an essential product in modern life, but that doesn't mean we should be wasteful or idiotic in it's usage. We should all be working toward reducing single use plastic like this film from all but essential processes

    Unless the end goal was to create a bouncy sweat box, wouldn't an actual tent, even a very small one person tent, be far more practical here?
    An average roll of 18" stretch wrap weighs 6-8 lbs each and it appeared you had at least 9 or 10 of them, or 50-80 lbs worth.
    I suppose you may very well be only feet from a vehicle, but even if you didn't actually hump these plus whatever else supplies through the woods, that setup process looks intense relative to a tent.

Not like paper, or rock or metal, all of these things have natural processes that break them down, and the environment has had billions of years adapt to breaking these down. Plastic is a material that the natural environment has not even remotely had time to adapt to. The plantet will be just fine, but having some unnatural material added to tye environment can have adverse effects on animal, and human health, such as cancer or sterilization orver a few generations. As for the plastic tent, I really feel that’s an example of “Just because you *can* do something doesn’t mean you necessarily *should*.”
    I’m no expert but all that plastic wrap doesn’t look environmentally friendly to me. I don’t think Greenpeace would approve.
    But, if civilization completely breaks down - which, in this country, could happen any day now, it seems like - and I have to live in the wild, I will remember this tutorial and immediately find a restaurant supply store to raid for industrial size rolls of cling wrap so I can make this tent.
    Of course, the bears, aliens, zombies or whoever it is the remnant of humanity is fighting will be able to see me through the clear tent in the woods, so maybe I’ll just raid a camping store and snag a real tent.
