    Love the imagery
    ESP the Medusa module in the middle of the empty case .. patch cables going out in all different directions… fade between image of actual Medusa.
    Amazing work

      Yeah, I loved that shot. The case is now full of Mutable (as intended).

    i would love to know how the medusa and spectraphon make friends. i love that you could power an entire patch with the pulses as potential clocks, and self patching options. thanks for the sweet demonstration and lesson

    Lovely. I leave the video not only thinking the Medusa is pretty cool, but also (and more importantly) I'm now thinking "how many oscillators can I patch up on my system...", and "time to read more about cluster chords". Thanks for another inspiring video! 😄

      There are many ways to 'build your own Medusa' but patching a Spread would be a masterclass CV excercise. I guess one knob gets inverted and attenuated. Cool idea for a Dual Maths video with four Plaits and a mixer. Thanks for the inspiration :).

      It just never ends. Can't wait to experiment with my Serge gear, but not sure if I'd post it because it feels kind of niche. However, I share videos I make for myself, like a diary. I love tons of modules and brands, I absolutely love Buchla inspired gear, but Serge is #1 for me.

    Great video, as always! How do you compare it with Moog Subharmonicon? Are they redundant in their kind of subharmonic sound or could they complement each other in an ambient setup? Thanks

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They couldn't be more different. Medusa has seven independent voices that can be used as subs and PWM with individual CV to modulate those. There's a spread to morph chords to clusters and with proper filters/FX it can really become orchestral. On the Moog you'd have two VCO's, the inevitable filter and polymetric sequencing. The Subs are always derived from the two VCO's but it's hard to control ratios. If you compare sounds, Medusa can give you the chills even when played raw. The moog does not (imho). However, the Medusa needs VCA's envelopes, filters and modulation otherwise it will just drone.

      @@CinematicLaboratory Thank you for your detailed answer. At the moment I am really liking my Moog Subharmonicon (it has become my only "official" eurorack voice in the last year or so), but I also enjoyed the sounds of your Medusa demo and I was thinking about pairing them for ambient landscapes. I guess I need to try then! Keep it up the great work

      @@tapemath Also check out XAOC Odessa with the Hel expander. That would be a great combo with the Sub's sequencer. The Sub is an excellent 'brain' for modular patches and I don't think I've heard anything more beautiful than the Odessa.

    One thought came to mind... *Always* have a Morphagene patched in and recording when using a Medusa; you never know when the "golden snake" will strike! 😂

    What VCA do you use for this beauty? Is there a Serge one? On the Serge Website I can only find various Filters/Function generators etc.

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've been wondering about this myself for a long time. Serge is about 'making a VCA' if you need one. The top channel of the Wave Multiplier can double as a snappy VCA. You can also 'make' a VCA with the GTO, the GTS and the ANC (crossfade with silence). All filters can be closed like a VCA, but with additional filtering obviously to make really nice sounds. It's a completely different way of thinking and patching. Since I am still learning, I often sneak in a makenoise low pass gate or a Mutable Veils.

    • @DonaldSchuster
      @DonaldSchuster หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ Thanks! So much to learn 🤓 But luckily I also got a Mutable Veils clone from Big T Music.This will have to do for the beginning

      @@CinematicLaboratory well, as far as I can see is 480€ pretty reasonable in the Serge universe 🙂
      Edit. Ooooh,I see...the Mixer is a DIY kit! Ouch!
      Edit2: on various websites it's a readymade module,on Serge's website it's a kit.Now I am really confused
      🤔

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DonaldSchuster Random*Source doesn't do DIY kits anymore. The 480 price is a built one. The description also mentions banana outputs so the website has a few errors. Just look at the module and listen to the Soundcloud examples which kind of explain why one needs to pay 480 for a balanced VCA mixer with panning. It's the waveshaping overdrive :)

    I so desperately want a Siegfried/Medusa panel but my god, the price… It would be the ultimate drone machine no? I have a 4u res EQ but the VC res EQ is the stuff of fever dreams.
    Let’s see, I already have a Voltron 6 panel. If I add the Siegfried/Medusa panel and then one of the Sing to Me panels from Loudest Warning I should be set right? What other way of spending 7-8k would,make me as happy? Sigh.

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am not sure about 4U serge and the Voltron 6 must be extremely powerful. Already a RES EQ on board and two DUSG's. However, this video shows that the Miso Cornflakes just expands Medusa to completely new territory. You could also consider building a small euro case and a pont-neuf converter. I'd add the best euro FX I can get and definitely a looper like the new Qu-Bit with Frippertronics. But that's just me. I played with the Paperface 50 panels for a few weeks and they can already do so much. But they're missing serious FX. I don't know, maybe you already have an Eventide or similar nearby.

    • @isaacc7
      @isaacc7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CinematicLaboratory I'm building my fx up. Been using some on my iPad but will start getting some pedals in the new year.
      I gotta have bananas. I noticed that you patched the paper face a lot like euro rack, rarely stacking and I don't remember you touching plugs to jacks. I love being able to engage a patch without inserting it in. Makes it really easy to both try things and to play the instrument. The matrix mixer on the Voltron 6 has mini jacks as well as bananas so it would be pretty easy to get voices from euro rack into the system. Guess they could be used for some FX as well.

    The problem is finding enough sources of 1v/oct for each of the seven vcos.

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  หลายเดือนก่อน

      3U euro only has three V/OCT inputs where the 4U version has 11. I think Serge's intention was also to just feed them attenuated LFO's and woggle movement - and cross modulation.
