I completly agree when im riding the officer seat in our trucks its rare for me to let off of it. We dont have q sirens and were a city dept. with over 60,700 population.
in response to the numerous "lay off the air horn", this is Harrisburg, home to ignorant drivers and people wandering into the street. You have them, use them
Air horns and fire sirens go well above 100 decibels and are probably causing all kinds of permanent hearing loss to fire fighters and civilians alike and I'd really like to see the evidence that deafening people like this is getting emergency vehicles to the emergency any faster than the kind of simple noisemakers you hear from dutch ambulances. Most US fire apparatus don't seem capable of going from zero to sixty in anything under five minutes and rarely do you see them tooling along at anything above 35---so, really, what's all the noise accomplishing?
@@Cryptonymicus Are you fucking kidding me . Somebody could be dying and you are bitching about the siren. Coming from 4 gen of fireman I can tell you the louder the better and cover your ears if it is to loud and todays firefighters wear ear protection.
Each alarm will bring more units to the scene, example, where i live if you call the fire dept and report a fire, alarm of fire is transmitted and it will bring 3 engines 1 ladder truck, a squad company, a chief and an ambulance. a 2nd alarm will bring another engine and ladder, and so on.
I'm pretty sure he's referring to the fact that you were using it when you weren't at an intersection. You even said in your comment that it was excessive. It wouldn't be excessive if it was necessary.
just to let you now the company here is a volly which is next to hbg this call was a third alarm which brings a third engine to the scene on second alarm they stand by station 2 in the city, the air horn that you here so much is for a good cause for one thing in the state of Pa the laws are written for a reason and one of the rule state in class one emergency you must travel with lights and sirens and part of your noise that you make are with horns sorry if bothered
Horn was making me laugh b/c it seem a little extra when there's like minimal traffic in Harrisburg now Philly on the other hand you would've made out just fine.
just did an insane response to 2 car wrecks today...... no such thing as too much airhorn OR Q. lol. from westchester NY. theres nothing like a loud response! GIT R' DUN!
PA state law requires audible signals anytime an emergency vehicle travels using visuals(lights)......im from western pa and I don't care if u go deaf when im driving at least ur less likely to walk or drive out in front of me at an intersection.
Not such thing, as long as theres enough air in the tank use em. I noticed they only run 1 siren (instead of a powercall/federal q type idea), so more noise the better. Its better to be heard rather than seen, a prime example I have is responding to a structure fire in our first due, coming around a blind corner into an intersection to find a mutual aid engine getting ready to run the stop. You bet your ass when asked they heard us coming long before they saw us.
@soccer1840353 AND ONE MORE THING. THERE DONT HAVE TO BE SMOKE ROLLING FOR IT TO BE A THIRD ALARM FIRE. WHAT ARE YOU? SOMEONE WHO ONLY GOES BY SMOKE? THE BUILDINGS THERE ARE PRETTY BIG THEY MIGHT OF HAD AN AFA AND MAYBE COMPANIES WARNT GETTING OUT SO THEY CALLED MORE ALARMS OR MAYBE THEY WANTED OT BE SAFE!
@ryan125g some companies are paid, i think. i know the Harrisburg bure of fire is paid, im not too sure about the rest. i also know there is a lot of volunteer companies in the harrisburg area
Sorry, I just don't agree. We all have issues responding to calls. Your streets just don't seem as busy as ours are in central NJ, yet we manage to navigate through busy highway cross traffic, busy downtown areas, especially congested areas like when your out by the shore in the summer on a weekend, and without deafening everyone in the process.
I am absolutely convinced that your average joe driver who is normaly a very good driver turns into an absolute moron when there are flashing red lights and sirens. That being said, there is no such thing as too much noise on busy streets like these. Granted this is Harrisburg and not NYC. FYI: a neigboring fire company was responding to a call when a SUV pulled out in front of them. The driver of the SUV was killed and the Engine was totalled when it rolled. These guys don't play around.
OMG!!!!! Lay off the horn already! The FDNY doesn't make as much as you do. Yes the law may state you must use lights and sirens to be classified as an emergency vehicle, that does not mean you have to create a spectacle of yourself in the process.

love the constant air horn. when i ride in the officer seat i do the same thing cause were a city dept. and they didnt give us q sirens.
Q and air horns the only way to go
Now put in service as engine 24 in same county

The air horn and siren were on fire by the time they got there! A little excited we’re ya’?
Dauphin County, Pa has a thing about using there air horns when going to a call. They call it studdering the air horns very cool when going to a call
@YayoCummins They r called spinners and they have flashing lights and spin
Quinn Dickinson no it's called a roto ray
Haha I love the air horn blasts at the cars going the other way! Over Kill....
It's called a RotoRay. They are commonly found on fire apparatus on the East Coast (PA, NJ, DE, etc.) They were made by Buckeye for many years.
I'm pretty sure he's referring to the fact that you were using it when you weren't at an intersection. You even said in your comment that it was excessive. It wouldn't be excessive if it was necessary.
great quality video, 5stars
Haha. Erring on the side of caution. :D
I noticed the dumpsters on the road. :)

Went a bit Air Horn Crazy there...
No need to honk when there's nothing there.
Yah I forgot what they were called and I just gessed.
Horn was making me laugh b/c it seem a little extra when there's like minimal traffic in Harrisburg now Philly on the other hand you would've made out just fine.
i totaly agree with emt667
what are those spiny things on the fronts of firetrucks
just did an insane response to 2 car wrecks today...... no such thing as too much airhorn OR Q. lol. from westchester NY. theres nothing like a loud response! GIT R' DUN!
@aspirecomptech the air horn is fun
At 1:15 look at the car in the closest lane.
It seems that no one in Harrisburg was ever told to GTFO of the way...
@YayoCummins there called a rotoray
@macktrucklover hahah makes sense, thanks man
2:15-2:20 ....... nice of someone to leave a dumpster halfway out in the street ..............
PA state law requires audible signals anytime an emergency vehicle travels using visuals(lights)......im from western pa and I don't care if u go deaf when im driving at least ur less likely to walk or drive out in front of me at an intersection.
@JoHnIsThEmAn287 Just stop arguing and enjoy the video.

@aspirecomptech the second you assume nothing is there is when you hit that nothing
just a plymouth prowler
@aspirecomptech you never know when a kid is gonna be on the side of the road and jump out... for saftey
@ryan125g some companies are paid, i think. i know the Harrisburg bure of fire is paid, im not too sure about the rest. i also know there is a lot of volunteer companies in the harrisburg area
I hate to brake it to ya, but they are RotoRays. Not spinners. Think Mars lights on steroids.
apparently some of you ppl have never been to harrisburg before.

I get nervous when I'm with a driver who unloads the Air Horns like that.... Since they're attached to the air brakes.
The worst that could happen would be you end up stopping
