    !!! Surprise shout out! I'm so happy you like my gold ochre paint! (it's one of my favs too!)
    It's funny because I recently felt a lot more interested in yellow ochre, so this video has perfect timing for me :)

    I've been debating what yellow ochre to buy, so this video was timely. Your comments re Daniel Smith's many ochres was interesting -- think I'll stick to DS PY43 or perhaps Raw Sienna Light PY42. Thank you so much for this info.

    What a fun collaboration!! I don't particularly use yellow ochre because I paint botanicals however on the rare I will use t and I use Daniel smiths yellow ochre. Just subscribed! If I had known you had a yt channel I would have subbed a long time ago since your the reason I subbed to skill share!

    • @SadieSavestheDay
      @SadieSavestheDay  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Erin S. Hi! 👋🏿 Nice to see you over here! I understand from the botanical point of view there's not a lot of use, but I'm curious to see how I could use the Daniel smith version!

  • @Amber-bx4tj
    @Amber-bx4tj 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    When Denise started comparing the Daniel Smith colors and pointed that the newest version was more close to raw siena then to yellow ochre I was like ".....damn, it looks the same color to me DAMN IT", but I don't really see a huge difference between the two in general.
    I'm trying to use more yellow ochre in my paintings (I think it's great to make mixtures for skintones), and I really want to thank you both for this collab! I admire your skills and learned a lot in the past months with your channels while I'm trying to learn watercolor by myself. You're amazing, thank you again!

      Thanks so much Amber! I'm glad it was helpful :) Yellow ochre is great to base skin tones off of.

    • @SadieSavestheDay
      @SadieSavestheDay  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Amber The two are super similar! The sienna is just a bit more warm and reddish. That's how I always remember it, ochres and umbers are cooler and siennas are warmer and redder.
      I'm glad you liked watching it as much as we liked making it!

    I have:
    • Schminke Transparent Yellow Ochre (PY42)
    •DV Transparent Raw Sienna Deep (PY42 )
    •Roman Szmal Dark Ochre (PY43)
    I don't have a favorite of the three these yet as I have not experimented enough with them yet.

    Super collaboration! Even as old as this video is the content is still so applicable! Paint recipes do not change that often! An Accomplished Artist can bring so much to a video like this! Thanks for sharing and showing other painters and viewers too that Yellow Ochre is a lovely color too!

    So cool, that you two made a collab together! Can't wait to watch your video Sadie! I have the Schmincke yellow ochre in my palette and use it regularly for mainly animals, but the transparent yellow ochre by Schmincke might take the place of the one I have now. (I'm also in love with the transparent umber by Schmincke - beautiful!) Thanks for the video to you two - I really enjoyed it. Sadie it's so beautiful to see, how happy you are in the intro! :)

    I think probably the craziest part of this video is seeing all those mixing tests and how ridiculously different they are, despite theoretically being the same color. Glad you guys both made these videos and swapped lives for a hot second!

    I am a yellow ochre fan like you. I use it for sand and as a base for darker skin tones. I didn’t realize DS had so many different varieties of this color. I own there French Ochre and Shin Hans Yellow Ochre. I absolutely love the way it mixes with Cobalt Teal, and your final painting is so lovely.

  • @Blissfulthings

    Fabulous!! I use mostly Sennelier paints they have more than one yellow ochre, I like to work in layers so sennelier just seems to glow.... now I'm off to watch you!

    Great video! Lol....yes, I admit, not a fan. My experience runs to van Gogh and W&N. The chalky opaqueness can really wreak havoc on a beginner's color mixing skills. Sooooo, I replaced it with raw sienna. Not a novel idea, I hear. I will definitely give it another chance, with a different manufacturer. I really like the look of Eve's "Spanish" version. It looks really buttery and soft. Thank you both for the very informative videos!

    • @InLiquidColor
      @InLiquidColor 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eve's so soo pretty and very different from all the others. It is a bit opaque but not chalky and worth it in my opinion. Daniel Smith's Raw Sienna is the one I ended up with but it's very brown/tan rather than yellow so I can't use it for the same types of things. Other versions are closer to yellow ochre though!

    Very interesting. I had DS yellow ochre on my palette but then I bought the DS Monte Amiata Natural Sienna and fell totally in love with its unique glow and lovely transparency and have been ignoring my yellow ochre. The MA Sienna is my current watercolor lust but I am a fickle newbie and still hold on to all my pigments for times when the honeymoon ends with my newest fav color. I love this collaboration. You two have taught me so much and as a newbie and retired I am finding that painting is really enriching my days. Thank you for generously sharing your talents.

    I missed this video. I'm a yellow ochre fan big time. Thin, it has a soft warm yellow glow. Thicker, it can go over other layers, the opacity becomes an advantage in that situation.

    I need a video on those separate applications of Yellow Ochre and Raw Sienna. My curiosity has been teased. :)
    Schmincke released a transparent version of Yellow Ochre (and other eath tones), I'll have to play with them.

    I can see it's going to be a long road to finding a nice transparent yellow ochre with just the right amount of yellow to brown tones. I may just have to make due with raw sienna. I have a no name student paint with no pigment info yellow ochre that I love. But what to replace it with is the question. It came on a 36 set. I don't want the whole set again just for the yellow ochre.😉
