Kia ora, and good on ya mate.
All my descendants- children & their other siblings as well, and all my grandchildren & all their other siblings as well are Maori descendants.
Even if they weren't I would still be really backing this wahine toa. I am so proud of her. She has helped me, in just a few korero, to really reflect on my culture. That includes the behaviours in our parliament.
I have also seen mayors- old pakeha men who refused to allow karakia before council meetings.
I found that in itself to be quite sickening. I actually feel sick now about one particular example up north.
I used to be incredibly proud of New Zealand.
But we have gone backwards in just a few weeks. Our smoke free policy is out the door. The Maori Health Authority has gone. Co- governance was deliberately made out to be something very threatening.
The Fair Pay Agreement has gone. People can be fired after only 3 months. Tenants can be kicked out with no reason given.
Rich landlords can have their mortgages paid by tenants again.
      It has gone one way.
The Maori language has been heavily undermined.
Our climate change response has reduced. God, it's embarrassing.
I won't stay sitting down, though. I will join protests, see my National MP who is a Maori, write letters and whatever else I can do.
It is not only Maori who are shocked by all this regression.
You know, mate, I really felt awesome progress, unity and respect around me under Labour. I could feel people looking a lot more proud. The Police became really approachable and humane. The rangatahi all around me are so much more into their culture. I am offered assistance wherever I go.
Now J am so embarrassed. I hope my neighbours don't thinking I voted for any of these racist capitalists! I'm so ashamed!.
We got used to Waka Kotahi, Oranga Tamariki, Kainga Ora, and heaps and heaps of new phrases, of new faces, great pronunciation and Maori content on the TV and radio.
Street names- named after barbaric British ( Von Tempsky) were changed to Maori names. We celebrated Matariki together. It was awesome.
I love the positive spirit of te Pati Maori. They are stronger than I am...they are accustomed to all this racism and suppression.

@kimkay2196 New Zealand's state system provides free education to all children, including Māori, and is funded by the government. Any other help maori recieve, in terms of free fees for university, courses etc Maori get from their iwi. Other Maori educational systems, such as Te wananga o aotearoa among others, that provide free courses to a certain level, are for all cultures. The Healthcare for maori is something I highly recommend you do your research on. however to get a more clear understanding as to why, it would be best to speak to the kaumatua in your area. Only then will you understand. Many people have a lot of opinions on this matter, however many of these opinions clearly stem from lack of knowledge.

Native Maori, you are beautiful. This young lady is beautiful. My heart swelled listening to this. Protect your language, heritage, culture, customs, language because it is the most beautiful thing in this world to hear that you still maintain the essence despite everything and all those who want and impose this world to be uniform and the same. The differences are wonderful, your language and song is something especially wonderful to hear. Stay strong as you are, big greetings from Croatia.
