    I have a cousin-in-law who researched an ancestor who according to legend died of a head injury. she found the newspaper article and found the ancestor was murdered by a blow to the head with a brick.

    Using your tutorial, I found that my Czech immigrant grandfather was listed among those who bought liberty bonds in 1917, and the pamphlet with the names also talked about the pressure tactics agents used in this small Idaho town. Then I found his name in a list entitled "American Poland- China Records Association" publication in 1920. I didn't have a clue what that could be about (he was a farmer so it couldn't be foreign diplomacy). When I paged through, I discovered that the title referred to a very special breed of registered pigs! My grandfather had bought three of them! It just makes me laugh that there's a public record recording that he bought pigs. What a note for posterity!

    Oh my goodness! I'm in a Google hole! I've been transcribing my biological grandmother's 30 years of diaries. When I put in her name with the Newspaper filter, I came up with all kinds of entries, her visit to her in-laws, her divorce, her remarriage, and I'm sure there will be more and more. I have so many other family names to try. This is such as awesome tool. Thank you so much!!!

    Referred to you via Dead Fred's Facebook page. Glad to have these tips. I have been faithfully using Google, Google Books, and Google Translate for genealogy research since 1999 but never knew I could find many newspapers this way. Many thanks!

    Excellent newspaper video and I liked that you included the Google News Archive. Years ago I came across Google News Archive and I did some work on it. You might want to update your video to include the blogs I created for the newspapers (USA and Canada), I think the viewers will benefit greatly from the information. Fantastic tutorial. I'd forgotten about Google books and honestly hadnt realized they had a focus on Newspapers at all. As I'm fairly web savvy, I was listening in the background as I decided to give it a test, and sure enough immediately found something interesting. Look forward to trying this out more.. Thanks!

    Thank You Lisa! ONE of the reasons I do the G is bcuz of my parents' rocky marriage and the rumor that I have a younger brother (via my father). After watching this video again recently, I did some more detailed searches following your instructions. I found my mother filed for divorce when I was 10 months old. This helps me with the timeframe when baby bro may have been born, where I only had suspicions up til now. Thank You Again!!!

    Thanks for this tip. Newspapers have been invaluable in fleshing out the lives of ancestors and thru which I discovered my 3rd great grandmother was the local gossip columnist in her happenings column. Naturally she documented for decades her family and others. But I also found clues to family events like someone's barn burning; a different 3rd great grandfather's store burning (and HOW and then a few weeks later the report on how much the insurance company paid out! For some reason, insurance payouts were big news...bc they were advertising for the insurance company.
    Thanks again for the new source!

    Love, love, love newspapers, especially the social pages from before the Internet age. They were the "social media" of the time. Newspapers add sooo much color to the facts & figures we usually collect. I wonder how future generations will manage to access "old Facebook postings" etc.

    Google digitized newspapers at the Bavarian State Library. I found a 2 1/2 page article in a 1814 German newspaper about my gggg-grandparent who was beheaded. he was responsible for four deaths.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing, Lisa. I love old newspapers for family and local history. I have used the old Google news archives for a few years to track down obituaries, marriage announcements, and historical events. The Google Books search feature has made the process easier. I use screen capture to clip articles and save them as images to insert into family stories. I can also go through my public library's website from home and search my state's collection of newspapers to save clips. They have papers from my home town that are not on the Google site. The clippings add flavor and a level of authenticity to my family's stories. The old papers also confirm the "history repeats itself" fact. The same types of crime and political ploys took place years ago as they do now.

    Thank you for this information, it has helped me find more articles, but 1. how do I add this to Ancestry, etc. Do I download it to my computer, then up load it to the site/profile? Step by step please. 2. How do you do the citations when you are adding these things to their profile. I did notice that when you find an article it is already on the page your information is on. You save the article in Favorites so you won't lose it, but when you go back to it later, it's on the very first page of the newspaper. So how should the citation read? Again, Thank You

      Thanks! I type the key info into my genealogy software database, and then I like to clip the article with Snagit . See my video here on YT or on my website at lisalouisecooke.com/2021/06/21/how-to-use-snagit-for-genealogy/ From Snagit I can save it to my hard drive and to many other programs. Snagit also has a "Grab Text" feature which is brilliant for newspapers. Check out Snagit at our affiliate link tinyurl.com/snaggems and if you decide to use it use our coupon code GENE15 to save 15%.

    How do you print a newspaper article? Mine takes up half the front page. I'm in the archives.

    • @GenealogyGems
      @GenealogyGems  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The best way is to use a web clipper to clip the section you want, or clip it in smaller pieces. That way you get a higher resolution portions you can read. Google Books has a web clipper built in. You could even save the clippings to a cloud service like Dropbox and then print them when you get home.

    How do you do a newspaper search on an android tablet? I need step by step info, please.

    • @KimberlyGreen
      @KimberlyGreen ปีที่แล้ว

      You can follow the same steps as you would on a regular computer. First you launch your tablet's web browser, then you can go to the web addresses that Rachel talked about. If you want to save the image(s) you found, you should touch-and-hold on the image. That should pop up an option to share or save the image to wherever you like.
      Side note: Rachel's focus is on the genealogy data, rather than the hardware. If you need extended help, it's probably best to get someone local to help you through technical challenges. They'll be more responsive _and_ right there to actually show you.

      Recent newspapers are probably available in digital form on the newspaper's website. It might not be free, but they should have it, I would guess.
