Correcting the ocr sounds useful.
Thank you so much for this video! This was extremely helpful!
You're so welcome!
I look for food recipes in old newspapers. And sewing, crochet and knitting patterns.
Wonderful information Devon. I wasn’t aware of the edit feature. Thank you. 🥰
I discovered that feature by playing around with the website. I thought it made a great tip.
BTW... I hope you're well. It's been too long since we've spent time at conferences together.
@@FamilyHistoryFanatics Hi Devon - boy oh boy, do I ever miss our in person conferecnes. Hope we can all convene again soon, although I doubt it will be the same. I think there will be a lot of folks not come and some retired. But, hope we can carry on. I'm creating beginner digital scrapbook videos now too. Many requests from friends. I doubt mine will be as good as yours, but I have something to shoot for. Please take care ♥
Thanks. I love your videos. Have you seen the Trove newspaper collection in Australia? We have hundreds of newspapers and gazettes scanned into one collection. I don’t know if it’s available overseas though.
Yes, it is available abroad, I have found many useful things in Trove! (I’m in the U.S.)
Yes. I have seen Trove. However, I'm not well versed with that website. If you can recommend someone more familiar to come be a guest on our Friday shows, I'd love to let them come share some tips.
@@FamilyHistoryFanatics What a great idea. I’ll contact them in the new year and let them know. There won’t be many staff around at this time of year.
Is it possible to connect the first part of an article at the bottom of a page and the end of the article at the top of the next column without including other text on the page that is not part of the article?
Sadly not on the platform. HOWEVER, you can use photo editing software to combine them together. I prefer Photoshop Elements because I can do SO many things with it.
Can I check without a subscription? I don't want to pay if the newspaper isn't available.
Yes, you can see what newspapers they have available without a subscription.
Yes. The first search tips covered in this video work as you try to determine if the website has records for your area. Forgive me if that wasn't clear. I tried to make it so.
Be sure to check the dates of the newspapers as well. I have a subscription to News... But, there are a lot of cases that there is a newspaper available for a region but they don't have all the dates. But, some stories are printed in papers a little distance away. An obituary for a prominent ancestor was reprinted in a 75 years ago today column. So, you want to poke around a bit.
