I've been absent from fishing for 40 odd years(life got in the way). Retired now, and I needed someone to explain the new gear (no such thing as braid or fluorocarbon in those days!) and the science of reading a beach and fishing in general. Went to Ocean Beach near Strahan, Tas. followed your tips and caught some nice sized salmon! I'm pretty sure they're the biggest fish I've ever caught ... so thank you, Roger, for all your input . I feel much more capable now.
Man I’ve been looking for years for someone to explain the fundamentals of beach fishing in detail and accidentally came across this absolute ’GOLD’ of a video. Thank you so so much mate you have no idea how happy you’ve made me. 😊😊😊👌🏾👍🏽💯
Im from Portugal and I dont know most the the fish species you talk about, but this is invaluable information, can use it anywhere in the world! Thanks Roger!
I usually fish rivers/lakes, gonna head to the beach tomorrow, this is by far the best video i've watched for surf fishing, all the info i needed, cheers
I would like to express my gratitude to you sir and all that are involved in the making of this video. You have done a great job at explaining in great detail the important information that is needed for surf fishing that many others have failed to do. Once agin thank you !
I am from Jamaica and I just start to fishing, I love this video it is so informative. As I was just about to go and search for best time to fish there it is, so much information in just one video.
Thank you for that informative video. I was born in Melbourne and was shipped off when I was 5 years old. Now I live in Selma, Texas. One thing or another has always prevented me from returning to my birthplace. But it's people like you that give me a grand connection with a place I do so very much love. Where I am it's a 3 hour drive to the Gulf of Mexico. I fish there when I can. I'm still learning... Peace!!!
Love ya Man!!!! You have by far, the best instructional fishing videos. You're very thorough and make things easy to understand. Thank you for all you do!!
Thank you so much Roger. I very new to fishing and haven't caught anything yet. Don't even know where to start. You're videos are very helpful. Keep it up please.
G'day Roger, I've Just retired from a 25 year military career, and most of my fishing has been trout fishing in the snowy mountains. I had no idea about beach fishing, but have always wanted to have go, but I just didn't know what I was looking at, or what I should be looking for. This has been extremely helpful. Cheers
Hi Roger... My name is George here in South Africa... I just want to say I love your videos... Did not have much luck in beach fishing and Im quit good at fresh water fishing... but since watching your videos and the way you teach, I've had much success in salt water fishing.. from finding baits, setting up rigs up to fishing and really loving it now, which I never did... Would like to add.. Keep up the great work in teaching it's awesome and so are you... Carry on fishing Roger.. I'm a great fan now...
Nice tips. I learned alot. Will check out your other videos. When I see fisherman at beaches always wonder how they catch fish. A mystery to me. You explain like a science teacher. Thanks.
Thank you Roger. You have a very much think-ahead approach, I do the same, ...planning ahead makes a day,s fishing more pleasant! I tie all my bait already on hooks, freeze the hook and bait. This approach stems from that I have determined exactly what fish species I am going to target, as well as where I am going to fish, with our south-easterly, easterly fishing wind in mind. Louis
And now I’m keen and thought I’d missed out and never will have the opportunity ever again but thanks to you and technology I’m able to learn again your channel is very educational thanks

Hi Brendon, I prefer swell of around 1 metre and not bigger than 2 metres although when the swell is large you can often find somewhere protected near the corner of the beach or in the shelter of a headland. I prefer no wind or up to about 10 knots (18.5 km per hour ). Kind Regards Roger

Hey Roger! Thanks for all the tips! I’ve been watching your vids and it’s been great. Just wanted to ask, you mentioned you check the tides, wind, weather etc, what’s the ideal conditions to look for?
Hi Mark, the sunny coast is a great spot. I have not tried plastics off the beach yet although I am sure that I will some time soon. I do plenty of plastics fishing in my local lake which I enjoy. I have some new videos coming out soon mainly regarding beach fishing. Roger.
After considering all the key points I've had a lot of success fishing after rough seas and heavy rain it churns up all the sand plenty food for fish to find also the murky water draws in the larger fish bringing them close to shore great video to share your knowledge with us
Hello, thanks for sharing beach structure. I begin to fish this year and I focus most in reading the beach structure. Do you know any book or source of knowledge to learn deeply? Thanks in advance, Paul
Hi Paul, I don't have a book that I use and I am not sure if there is a book that really goes into detail on this subject. I have learnt from years of exploring and hunting. i have a number of new videos that I am working on that will be published soon. Roger
Hi Dave, Seaweed is a pain. I avoid it. Often its just a matter of moving down the beach a bit. You can fish with a small amount of weed but otherwise move to a weed free location :)
Great video thank's for posting it on utube. I like the end. No time fishing is a fail. I'm no seasoned fisherman but have learned more each time I never caught a single fish than the times I caught lots of fish.
Excellent Video again! Thank you for your professional yet down to earth tips. Love the fishing and worming demonstrations. It's just like being there...well wishful? Hoping to get to Ulladulla in a week or two myself with the family. God bless you (Ps. 144) and your teaching to all us itching to get our feet wet and like you said half the fun is in the planning and hoping and wondering what will bite. Keep the videos coming when you can. Everything you said rang true with my experience. Thanks!
Nice video I do a lot of beach surf fishing I mainly use bigger hooks for gummies snapper and flathead. Your saying you catch a lot of whiting off the surf maybe I should try using some smaller hooks on 1 rod and try catch some whiting I useually fish the 90 mile beach In Victoria
Thank-you Sir...your insights are very welcome! I recently fished an open section of the Kingscliff beach area...winds were Northerly and strong...a lot of weed in the water and strong currents...not ideal for fishing I know! But my young son and I were camping and didnt have much opportunity to move far...we were lucky that a gutter existed just in front of our camp, however it didnt have an obvious outlet to the sea...we got one 32cm whiting closer to shore but that was it! No good bites...Was it just like you said, "sometimes you just are wasting your time?" I also often wonder about how much weight I should be using...I like to fish light but the swell and under currents can be horrendous near Kingscliff...Could you please provide some guidance as to lead/sinkers ?? Also I am struggling to catch a beach worm, even with your guidance...when you were first starting out...was it frustrating and felt difficult or am I just completely using the wrong technique??? Kind regards and thank-you!
Brilliant, Roger! Good info without all the pizzaz like music and hauling in one fish after another that some TH-cam fishos seem to think necessary. You look like a great bloke to have as a fishing mate.

Thanks!
Thanks so much mate, sorry for the late reply, God bless!
Thanks Rodger
Great video mate. So much knowledge being shared 🙏
Thanks Fish_eat_repeat. Good to hear from you. Roger
Awesome info mate! You deserve subscribes. Love watching your video.
Beach worms are really hard to catch & most people struggle for a while before getting the hang of it - practice makes perfect... keep trying!
"and I'll wind my line a few feet and wait... and I'll wind my line a few feet and wait"...
THANKS.... THIS IS A TOP SECRET 👌
You're most welcome.
Well done indeed! Great detailed explanation on key points, what to watch and how to read a beach. 🐟😎👍🎣
Thanks Florida, great to hear from you. Regards Roger.
Brilliant, Roger! Good info without all the pizzaz like music and hauling in one fish after another that some TH-cam fishos seem to think necessary. You look like a great bloke to have as a fishing mate.
Thanks James, Glad you enjoyed it.
Great information, thanks for the presentation
You're welcome Colin.
In your first tip what are you looking for in regards to swell height, wind direction, wind speed etc?
The best explanation for me so far
