  • Dave talks through the importance of sheet layout on a building, emphasizing that because each building is often unique from the next, there is no "one solution fits all" option. In this illustrative example, Dave shows several options for the TPO sheet layout on our project building. GAF's Roofing It Right series "Reroof Project from Start to Finish" features Dave & Wally walking us through the stages of a commercial reroofing project.

Does anyone have any insight on why/when to use one approach over another? i.e. why were finger strips chosen for this job?

Matt, the simple answer for this job is that a Rhinobond machine wasn't available. Some smaller roofers may not have made the investment into an induction welder, or they may have them but they're being used on a larger job, so fingers were used.

Dave, why use a flashing strip? Is it ok to make the strips out of a 60 mil roll?
    Thanks

Hi Joe. You can use a flashing strip but that takes time and you're probably not going to get a perfectly straight edge which could impact the quality of your weld. 8" flashing strip is factory cut and designed to go over details such as what Dave describes in the video. Overall the flashing strip is more consistent and faster to install.

Flashing strip already has a straight edge and it's 45 mil so you don't need to use T-Joint Patches.

@@gafroofing Thanks Dave I don't remember you covering that detail at your seminar. When is GAF going to have TPO for sale again?
