@@luishurtado2170 facts but I’m giving them a chance. That why I’m hoping their children do dubbed. We grew up watching subs but the parents probably did not. They paid more attention in the 3rd ep thankfully
I am Japanese in my late 40's and this reaction video is very interesting as if we are looking at the hypothetical if our parents were shown anime. They will never watch anime, though. Our generation in Japan was never very tolerant of anime either, so it is also like watching ourselves in the past. It used to be that when I was exposed to anime as an adult, I too began to watch it armed as an adult, thinking that it should not be taken seriously because it is for children and that I did not have to give it due credit because it depicts only childish things. The fact that I was armed means I must have wanted to protect myself from something. Our generation in Japan, probably like other countries, had usually graduated from anime by the time we had graduated from elementary school, and we had the mindset that anime was for children or for a few eccentric adult men who could not associate with the opposite sex. But in the case of us Japanese, the manga genre had already been subdivided since our childhood, and there were manga for adults and for all demographics, and so we never graduated from manga when we grew up, because we have been reading them all our lives, perhaps we may had an easy time adapting to animation as adults. I think my negative preconceptions about anime disappeared after two phases. The first is that I have found that though the women portrayed in some anime are so disconnected from reality that they seem childish, and if the story is interesting, that part doesn't matter. Secondly, I think a major factor is that more and more anime are faithfully adapted from the manga, making it possible to see the fun of the manga as it is in the anime. Probably because I think that for people outside of Japan, there is an awareness that reading manga as an adult is childish, and so I know it is difficult for you to image our feeling of being reading manga but looked down anime as childish, but I hope you understand that I can relate and feel nostalgic to your reactions in that I had strong negative preconceptions about anime. And it is very interesting that you are like our parents in that your negative preconceptions about anime are far stronger than ours once were. I am very much looking forward to seeing how you guys respond to this in the future. Sorry for writing so long in very poor and hard-to-read English, as English is not my native language and I have no opportunity to use it.
Just some suggestions: 1. Lower the sound of the anime, it overlaps with theirs it's hard to hear what they were saying. 2. I think you (the children) should accompany them to explain some of the things they may miss, like the map of the wall, etc. Things that won't be spoiler to them. At least in early episodes. I mean, once they're hooked, you can let them ride the journey by themselves :D 3. It's better to not watch the preview, but it's not that crucial so up to you. I hope they will finish this series. It's nice to see more people getting to know this epic masterpiece
The audio is good, hearing them noise when they should be paying attention even louder wouldn't be an improvement. And the kids would probably try to emotionally prompt or "enhance" their reactions, few who have seen it don't do so.
"They have two more walls to go through, don't they?" Depends on what your goal is? The wall broken in the first episode was the one of the city district we've been in so far. The wall being broken in this episode here was the outermost wall Maria, which encompasses their whole territory, an area roughly the size of a country like France or Germany, with forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, villages, etc. all in between before even reaching the next wall. It's the largest area in regards to land usage and their biggest agricultural sector. That's why they basically killed 1/4 of their total population (which was roughly a million people), of course consisting of the very refugees that just fled. They could not have fed everyone otherwise.
watching this after the last and wanted to say- their reactions are actually really realistic lol my parents reacted the exact same way. they are huge aot fans now tho! they even started rewatching it. i hope this group has the same experience! ☺
I enjoyed the end conversation alot, being that some of you seem to TRULY want to understand and Im here for just that. Thanks for keeping on the subject sometimes and bringing everyone together about talking about the story. Much appreciated!
This could be a great react series but it needs 2 things. 1. Like some people have said in the comments, these guys should watch dub. They seem so lost and unfocused. The beauty of AOT is the story more than anything and theyre not getting it. 2. A mic for them bc theyre so quiet, make the anime audio quieter when theyre speaking. Overall this could be a super interesting reaction series to watch. But it needs the emotional payoff. Like the fact that the moms had such a mild reaction to eren's mom dying or her scolding him about the scouts. I was really surprised none of them connected with Carla at all. I get that you, the kid running the account, probably prefer the sub, which is fair bc it is better. But theyre literally just not able to comprehend the sub well enough to enjoy it. Which isnt their fault, its an entirely new media for most of them. Sorry for the long comment lol. Hope to see the rest of the series from y'all! Ps. Multiple episodes per video will get more engagement
Hey bro thanks for the feedback! We will see what they decide for dubbed or subbed we are talking about it. All I can say to that is they have watched subbed stuff before so idk why they couldn't for this. The names aren't japanese so them being confused on the names doesn't change for dubbed. They summarize the plot just fine so far so idk what would change there. They just haven't seen enogh to be into it. Unless you still disagree. And yea our audio can be way better we definitely are figuring that out. For a lot of people a mom dying in a show doesn't hit unless they are really attached to the mom and they probably weren't is why they reacted the way they did everyone's different. My parents don't cry or get hyped to any shows really. They migjt have been hyped for some idk. So I was curious to see if this show could get a cool reaction out of them i believe it can.
That's the thing with some anime. No sub, no watch for a lot of people. Me personally, no dub for Dragonball Z, or (opposite) no sub for AoT, no watch. It's all about the emotion it delivers for the individual viewer.
History Lesson Time! Somewhat obviously (I hope) "anime" is a modern subcategory of "cartoon". In the distant past of the 1990s, as these Japanese cartoons made their way to western audiences, (actually as early as the 70s but only the ones who were there when the old magic was written discuss those times), Western media struggled to figure out what to call it because "cartoon" here has connotations that simply don't apply to what was coming out of Japan. Think Looney Tunes vs Akira. They went with "Japanimation" for a while before the consumers quickly shortened that to "anime" and here we are. Furthermore, as a style, it's been borrowing from western animators and we've been borrowing from them. Avatar: The Last Airbender was made over here but could easily have come from OLM, for example. There are certain tropes, character design paradigms, and visual language touches that distinguish "anime" from "western animation" these days, but it's getting blurrier by the year.
I hope you guys stick with it! My mom is in her 50s, and i got her to watch it last year, and she binged the whole show😊 She enjoyed it! I believe she watched the dubbed it helped her stay focused, but she watched season 4 in sub because dub wasn't available

Especially with the mid-card descriptions bc i noticed they paced over it bc they didn't get it which is understandable but there is good info in there that can get them more immersed like for example what the names of the walls are. You might not have to be there all the time but at least try it out n see if the engage with the show a little better.
