As a Norwegian this has been a favourite of mine for many years, so I loved your breakdown and appreciation of the tune. Here's another track in a similar vibe: "Södra sidan (remix) - SödraSidan, Danjah, Sebbe Staxx, Alpis, Mohammad Ali, Näääk, Fille" My favourite Swedish rapper is Sebastian Stakseth (aka. Sebbe Staxx), he used to be a criminal and in a group called Kartellen (The Cartel), then he turned around and became a redeemed Christian instead. An inspiring arch if I ever saw one! Here's some songs from different years in his career: 2009 - Kartellen - Junior (lyrics was written by his friend Kinesen who is still in jail for robbery, I believe he still is today 16 years later) 2012 - Kartellen feat. Dani M - Mina Områden 2020 - Sebastian Stakset - Amen 2024 - Sebastian Stakset, Petter - Turbulens He always delivers on the poetic side in my opinion. I could hook you up with something fun Norwegian too, let me know.
Labyrint is one of the biggest hiphop groups from Sweden and had a huge following for many years. They pretty much made their own genre that was called "betongreggae" which translates to Concrete Reggae - this type of reggae style singing over classic hiphop beats. Check out "Labyrint - Broder del 2" - that's also one of their songs with loads of rappers and singers on. It was also very popular and with an even strongar reggae vibe.
In Chorus they are basicly singing "We dont care about your awards or reviews ,there is no money in this music but thats cool as long as we got the love from the people in the hood" Aki, Dajankoo, and Jacco is Labyrint.
When they made the orininal song they said we cant make ortens favoriter(the hoods favorits) without ortens favoriter(the hoods favorits), so they made this remix to boost there local favorits and rappers they though deserved more attention. and they created this masterpiece.
Translating those lyrics is so difficult with all the cultural context. Just the fact that förort can be accurately translated to suburb but with completely different conotations. Sweden made an effort in the 60s and 70s to build a million homes, a more or less intended effect of this was to move the poor people out of the inner city and into newly built suburbs with a lot of cheap apartments.
Yeah, it's a bit of a contradiction for English speakers, where the Swedish "suburb" (förort) has the same connotations as the American-English "inner city"
Bob Marley lived for a short period in Sweden in the early 70s, that's when Reggy became big here. His wife who is also a great Reggae artist Alfarita Constantia "Rita" Marley Anderson's both grandparents were Swedish.
Gottsunda is an area in Uppsala. Röda Linjen i= Red (subway) line. Reggae is not uncommon in a lot of styles of music in Sweden, everything from pop like ace of base, edm , and especially in rap, back in the days.
Big shout out to Labyrint (Danjanko, Aki, Jacco) for gathering this awesome group of artists and making an awesome hit. This was a time when rappers in Sweden could collaborate. These days Sweden has become much more violent, and rappers need backup from their hoods and can't collaborate with rival hoods.
Alot of them are from Uppsala gotsunda/stenhagen and we have/had a big reggae festival so alot of people went there so there hip hop got alot of insperations from it. With artists like Snopp dog, julian marley and so on.
Floos = money. Aina = cops. Götet/GBG = Gothenburg. Shoo = turkish for "hi", so "hello to" or "shout-out to" . Gottsunda = low income part of Uppsala. Cat = cool person or hot girl. And there is a miss in translation. "Ortens favoriter" means the local favourites, or more likely the suburban favourites, who sometimes live in troubled areas. Red line is a subway line and a record label residing in Norsborg, a very dull area south of Stockholm at the end of one of the red lines.
We have so much good hiphop ! Especially the old school before everything was about shooting eachother ! Theres no one like Dani M ! He is so underated imo. Love this reaction vid…keep it up !
We, the swedes are very aware of our musical contribution to the world. We are at the very top. A big part of it is that we embrace musical styles from all over the world. Now this song is on the top OF THE TOP. it's one of the very best songs when it comes to respresent Sweden 🤙
Bob Marley lived in Sweden in 1971 and wrote and recorded a lot of the music that made him famous. Both hip-hop and reggae are huge pillars of Swedish culture.
Love this. You're really reacting and being passionate about this, really nice! A lot of "react" youtubers just watch and feel soulless. Good job! Subscribed!
Thanks for a great post. Im actually from Gottsunda (as are Labyrint), which is a suburb to Uppsala, swedens fourth largest city about 70 km from Stockholm. So many things I want to comment on, but feel I’ve have to limit myself 😂. But the reggae connection, it’s always been big in Sweden, but Gottsunda, I think stands out. Bob Marley was everywhere when I grew up, then came inner circle (I know 😅), but more importantly a lot of ragga/dancehall like shabba ranks, buju banton, sizzle you name it. Uppsala actually has a reggae festival that has been going on for at least 20 years. If you want to hear more of Labyrint reggae roots I suggest this one, Jaccos first single th-cam.com/video/_ecSDK0WB60/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4FqWZxUoA0HHLRpG
The chorus: ‘Fuck your reviews and prizes, don’t give a shit as long as we are the neighborhood favourites’. ‘Everyone knows there is no money in music, but that’s cool, as long as we are the neighborhood favourites’
the red line/röda linjen is a colour shown to a part of stocholms stations like :Bredäng Alby liljehomen sätra and there is also blue :Tensta ,kista ect and green ,Farsta Dalen skarpnäck and more
And for the reggae. There was a massive reggae wave in Sweden from the late 2000's into the early 2010's era. Basically you had reggae rap and gangster rap.
You gotta listen to Swedish reggae. Start with our old school Peps Persson, and then we got kapten röd, governor Andy and General Knas. Also Ras Cricket and Syster sol, man i can keep going... 🔥 Peps Persson did a great song with Timbuktu called Dynamit, they mention Alfred Nobel who created TNT and the business of War.
You really need to react to a song with Broder John and Friman, the song is called Hoopdiggas and despite being 9 years old, it is by far the heaviest song released in Swedish hip-hop. Both have subsequently had solo careers, where Friman is now more famous as Fricky!
Whiskas is a brand of catfood and their slogan is "Whiskas - om katten själv får välja" which means if the cat itself gets to choose. so now you know :D
Tbh this is just top of the iceberg , sweden have always delivered , i bet you heard about loop troop - looptroop rockers - promoe . Alex, Röda Linjen. Means he from some suburb along the "Red Line" of the subway system in Stockholm. Red Line records stems from Botkyrka at the very South-Western end of Röda Linjen. The title of the song "Ortens Favoriter" means they the "Hoods favorites". Most artists are largely unknown and not mainstream but well known in the hoods of Sweden. I remember labyrint absolutely blew up. Immensely talented artists on this track. Yes he meant travelers as gypsies. Shoo, is just slang for Yo/Hi.
Being from jkpg(jönköping), seeing allyawan on this one back in the day was big. Local legend 110%. Öxnehaga, Österängen and torpa are areas in jkpg. The town has a long history of romani/travellers influence/conflict, allyawan afaik doesnt have that exact heritage but he most certainly had contact with them growing up one way or another and it probably influenced his life. The last bit of his verse is mainly shouting out some extra areas In regards to who on the remix had commercial success id say stor, labyrint(aki, dajanko and jacco), dani m, maybe aleks and depending on definition jaqe(not super known by the average swede but hiphop enthusiasts know whatsup) are maybe the biggest ones. Stor and labyrint were already making waves when this one came out if i remember correctly
If you’re interested there’s one (among many) swedish female artist / producer that’s very talented that has her own style I think, Seinabo Sey. She’s done one song feat Jacob Banks (british…?) that song is called Remember. And about 8-10 years ago she performed at The Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo with her song Younger, one of her more famous songs. Another skilled artist is R&B singer is Cherrie.
while "resort" does work as a translation for "ort"/"orten", it literally just means "place" or "locality", and is used as "hood"/"the hood" in swedish slang. Ortens Favoriter means The Hood's Favourites
"Röda linjen" (red line) is part of the subway system in Stockholm. He's from the southwest part of Stockholm. Resort's favorites is a mad funny translation on the hoods favorites 😂 All of these pretty much made it in Sweden at one point. A few are still main stream, but it's hard to stay up there with the constant competition.
For more with the singer Aleks, I recommend - Andra porten. - En dröm. - För alltid. - Stationen - Ison & Fille ft. Aleks. - Underklassmusik - Kartellen, Aleks. - Highwon - Från hjärtat. - En hyllning - Promoe, Aleks.
Dani M is the only one here that's still "relevant" in terms of numbers and has been one of the biggest rapper since this song was released. I'm a big fan to him to this day - he is nice!
Im born 89, my generation from the Hood grew up with hiphop/reggae. Im from Gottsunda its a area in the city of Uppsala. Listen to antwan and haval aswell💯 756
I feel so much for this song and this band. I grew up in a place called Hammarkullen and it’s the hood and it’s so true what they say in this song. We have something in common no matter what hood we’re from. Suburb has a completely different meaning in English than in Swedish so I would say “the hood” is more accurate.
Aleks have a banger voice, all the people in this video are classics. Everyone in the hood knows these people. some of them have their own carriers that are doing very well stil!
Some rough translations & definitions: "Orten" translates to "The hood" "Flooz" = "Cash" "Shoo" is a greeting. "Shoo mannen" = 'Hey, man" "Aina" = "Cops". Usually used in a derogatory way like "fuck aina!' "Röda linjen" = "the red line" Is a mostly southbound metro line running though Stockholm and is hugely influential to Swedish rap. "Knagging" for some reason is a hilariously terrible attempt to Englishfy "Knegar" = "Working" as in working a job. Important to point out the K isn't silent. "Götet/GBG" = Indeed is "Gothenburg"
Would love it if you did a reaction to the Swedish group Hoffmaestro and in particular this video "Hoffmaestro & Chraa - Hoffmaestro (acoustic live)" 😃👌Their genre is SKA.
Reggae and old-school hip hop was huge in Sweden back in 2011 when this was released and before that. Now i feel like it's mostly shitty mumble rap and drill that's popular, but maybe it's just me getting old 😆
Dani m, really developed into a big favorite in sweden. He really marked that 2012 era where they were really inspired by reggae as well. Reggae is really big in uppsala were a lot of these artist come from including dani m. U would like “naiv” and “aldrig igen” by dani m. It has that reggae flow with the good lyrics. And dani m is still active and doing really well btw.
If you wanna see the origins of heavy Swedish gangsterrap i recommend Kartellen (The Cartell) they were huge and controversial, some of their top songs include the Labyrint artists also
Labyrint. Dani M, Kapten Röd, Stress, Aki, Jacco, Kartellen, Ison o Fille, General Knas, Stor, Näääk, Södrasidan Just to name a few who was on fire 8-14 years ago!
u NEED to react to "Alla vill till himmlen men ingen vill dö - Timbuktu" its a Swedish CLASSIC, it is somewhat a political song the title is translated to "Everybody wanna go to heaven but nobody wanna die" and there is also one line in the song "the state backs off and corporates take over, they talk a lot of shit and gives us shit salaries, so much shit you'd think a million people emptied their stomach, they force us to swim around in a ocean of lies" its basically a very socialist idea and the artist is known for backing left wing parties! a MUST LISTEN!!! also its very much a reggae vibe
Music really is Swedens number one thing. Doesnt matter what type of music, we do it all. Singing and playing music is a really big part of Swedish culture and many dwell in it. I can give you a fun comparision from the death metal scene: Swedish death metal is huge around the world and are known to be more melodic than death metal from other countries or continents. I think that shines through in all genres of music produced in Sweden. I don't know how to explain it further in english sadly, but there is something withs swedes and melodies... th-cam.com/video/FI3iX8WtzaM/w-d-xo.html just to give an example. This is the kind of music that was and still is played around the country waaaay before "modern" music. I think it built a stroing foundation for Swedish music. As you notice, I am super proud of our music contribution to the world!
"Whiskas" is a cat food brand in sweden. But yeah we had some really good hiphop back in the days, some really good boombap, not anymore unfortunate. You should really listen to "Tystas ner remix" with adam tensta and some other good artists. Some still rapping today but in a different vibe. Keep up the good work and your music, really good! Props from a swedish brother
So many great rappers in this video, Labyrint is one of my absolute favourite groups! AKI is one of the best rappers in Sweden (along with many more), you should listen to/watch "The Nogo show" and "Polisen", two more recent songs which I listen to a lot :D¨Another, a bit older song is "När Solen går ner" which also is feat Kapten Röd which is big in Reggae! Regarding Reggae, it's pretty big in Sweden, we used to have a Reggae festivale every year in Uppsala and we also have a 2 or 3-day Reggae festivale on the island Öland which is soo nice! You should check out Promoe, he has done both Swedish and English music, he is also in a group called Looptroop Rockers, Long Distance Runner is the most famous English song I think, and in Swedish you should watch "Tystas Ner Remix"! :)
Yeah Labyrint consists of Aki Dajanko and Jacco. You will find alot of good material to react to from most of the artists in this song. Redline productions is also very much in the center of this era of swedish hiphop.
I highly recommend you to check out Petter (especially some of his earlier stuff like ”Ta det tillbaka”), Latin Kings - Cashen dom tas, Ayo - Betongdjungelboken, even Yasin Byn - Trakten min and Z.E - Min penna blöder for some newer stuff. I also like Ison & Fille especially ”När vi glider”
You should consider reacting to more of Jaqe’s songs. In my opinion, he’s easily the greatest and most underrated Swedish rapper of all time. If you’re going to react to him, I’d recommend his latest record, Filmen. It’s very lyrical, and personally, I’d consider it a masterpiece. His unreleased album, 2:32, which you can listen to on SoundCloud, is also an unbelievably great project. Overall, I’d say his entire discography is nearly perfect-but then again, that’s just my opinion.
Black Ghost have a goooooooood mixtape on youtube if you wanna listen more, my favorite is Black Ghost - Puffran i Luften, but Black Ghost - Orten is one with a video!
Labyrint was huge before the drill scene took over a had a much bigger reggea influnce than todays scene. They have a lot of great tracks, you should check them out some more!
What does reggea mean?
@@herrbonk3635reggae is a music genre
@@mikaelpersson9724 No, probably reggae.
Pretty much all of them except for like 2 ppl was pretty huge like 10y ago, then alot changed in the ghettos, the music included xd
Well 80’s and 90’s heads still listen and recognize the sweeet melody 🎵 😊
Gotta react to Kapten Röd, Swedish reggae at its finest
Great suggestion!
Oh come on, Kalle Baah, Governor Andy aswell
Syster sol too
As much as I love kapten röd skaburbian collective before Kribbe died is still the best reggae sweden produced.
This song is like the national anthem for guys born between 1996-2000 and grew up in the suburbs (orten).
As a Norwegian this has been a favourite of mine for many years, so I loved your breakdown and appreciation of the tune. Here's another track in a similar vibe: "Södra sidan (remix) - SödraSidan, Danjah, Sebbe Staxx, Alpis, Mohammad Ali, Näääk, Fille"
My favourite Swedish rapper is Sebastian Stakseth (aka. Sebbe Staxx), he used to be a criminal and in a group called Kartellen (The Cartel), then he turned around and became a redeemed Christian instead. An inspiring arch if I ever saw one! Here's some songs from different years in his career:
2009 - Kartellen - Junior (lyrics was written by his friend Kinesen who is still in jail for robbery, I believe he still is today 16 years later)
2012 - Kartellen feat. Dani M - Mina Områden
2020 - Sebastian Stakset - Amen
2024 - Sebastian Stakset, Petter - Turbulens
He always delivers on the poetic side in my opinion.
I could hook you up with something fun Norwegian too, let me know.

"Aina" = "Cops". Usually used in a derogatory way like "fuck aina!'
"Röda linjen" = "the red line" Is a mostly southbound metro line running though Stockholm and is hugely influential to Swedish rap.
"Knagging" for some reason is a hilariously terrible attempt to Englishfy "Knegar" = "Working" as in working a job. Important to point out the K isn't silent.
"Götet/GBG" = Indeed is "Gothenburg"
Great video, man! You should check out "AM43 Remix - Kartellen (Stress remix)", next!
Now i feel like it's mostly shitty mumble rap and drill that's popular, but maybe it's just me getting old 😆
Dope video, One of Jacco's first rap/reggae video, from Labyrint. --> *'Jacco - Vår Betong'*
The text under is where they from (gbg is Göteborg and jkpg is Jönköping)💪🙏
If you wanna see the origins of heavy Swedish gangsterrap i recommend Kartellen (The Cartell) they were huge and controversial, some of their top songs include the Labyrint artists also
Labyrint. Dani M, Kapten Röd, Stress, Aki, Jacco, Kartellen, Ison o Fille, General Knas, Stor, Näääk, Södrasidan Just to name a few who was on fire 8-14 years ago!
I love this song!
no gangs. just cities and some crews
u NEED to react to "Alla vill till himmlen men ingen vill dö - Timbuktu" its a Swedish CLASSIC, it is somewhat a political song the title is translated to "Everybody wanna go to heaven but nobody wanna die" and there is also one line in the song "the state backs off and corporates take over, they talk a lot of shit and gives us shit salaries, so much shit you'd think a million people emptied their stomach, they force us to swim around in a ocean of lies" its basically a very socialist idea and the artist is known for backing left wing parties!
a MUST LISTEN!!! also its very much a reggae vibe
They made a very similar video with several rappers called "Broder del 2" and i think most of us would love if you reacted to that one too😊
Aladdin! The most well known name in Uppsala in the late 90s - through 00s. But not at all for his music!!
It's their name as well as the cities/areas they represent.
Great video!
Check out Aleks debut album "Inte längre fiender" from 2011. Certified classic!
If you liked this one Dwayne I'd highly recommend Kartellen - Mina Områden.
Yesss !!!!!!
Gbg is Gothenburg and jkpg is jönköping, another city in Sweden
Different dialekts👌
"Whiskas" is a cat food brand in sweden. But yeah we had some really good hiphop back in the days, some really good boombap, not anymore unfortunate. You should really listen to "Tystas ner remix" with adam tensta and some other good artists. Some still rapping today but in a different vibe. Keep up the good work and your music, really good! Props from a swedish brother
Im from Västerås., they record that scene at Bjurhovda centrum.
Great video! Kapten röd or General Knas next please :)
You should react to Labyrint - Broder del 2. Best tune they made, such a vibe ❤
Yeah Labyrint consists of Aki Dajanko and Jacco. You will find alot of good material to react to from most of the artists in this song. Redline productions is also very much in the center of this era of swedish hiphop.
You really should check out Labyrint. Best rap group in sweden imo
Overall, I’d say his entire discography is nearly perfect-but then again, that’s just my opinion.
dani m is really big recently charted number 2 with his album push3r and has alot of platinums, he got his first 2013
I like your music-ear nog up to you 👍🏼💯
Labyrint - Broder del 2 (Officiell) Its a Reggae/hiphop/rap mashup!
Black Ghost have a goooooooood mixtape on youtube if you wanna listen more, my favorite is Black Ghost - Puffran i Luften, but Black Ghost - Orten is one with a video!
6:10 GBG is Gothenburg and Jkpg is Jönköping (cities in Sweden)
