    I have a 3 year old Interceptor 650. Parked on the street in the UK (under a cover), ride all year round. Properly clean it twice a year followed by ACF50, with a quick wash maybe once a month in between - rust has never been a problem. This bike is NOT a rust bucket - you’re doing it wrong dude!

      @@HardDanceShuffler10One detail that I noticed on the video is a surf board on the motorcycle.
      Living close to the sea or even going there on a regular basis is terrible for vehicles.
      Salty humidity is even worse than road salt because it gets everywhere without you even noticing. It eats off the paint, and rusts everything.
      Not denying that a motorcycle with better, more expensive materials will take longer to start showing signs of corrosion, but any bike, any vehicle for that matter will start showing signs of corrosion sooner or later if exposed to those types of conditions.
      All you can do to minimize the effect is washing the bike regularly to remove the salt and use anticorrosion products.

      @@FreeMilesMC it’s a US airforce product. It comes with a spray bottle but I pour it into a cup then paint it on the bike. Leave it 10/20 minutes then wipe it off. When a new motor cycle is built to a budget (as the Interceptor is) you must expect a few cost cutting issues. The Triumph Bonneville is nearly twice the price yet it also suffers from corrosion if it is not cosseted.

    Here in the U.S. my interceptor actually does turn a lot of heads as it isn't a Harley or a sport bike. I really didn't think it would when i got it. Mine is actually rusting less then i thought it would considering where i live and the fact that i can't keep it clean, (i live down a dirt road that floods when it rains and here it rains a lot). The polished aluminum actually does better then i thought it would as well, which still isn't great but it's aluminum, it oxidizes faster then just about anything. Anyway, after 3 months i have only put 1200 miles on it riding often just to town and back and i just polised it for the first time, so i guess it is more upkeep then most bikes. Mines a 2023 model and the tires have never given me a problem on pavement. I have never scraped the pegs on it yet but i get real close just about everytime i go out and the tires have never slipped once, but that is on pavement. The dirt road i live on is another story, it's like driving a bar of wet soap, well actually like driving a sliver of wet soap set on its edge. As for the size of the bike, i'm 5'7" so it feels like a proper bike to me. If i was 6'4" i would probably feel a bit off riding it but i'm guessing would still be comfortable as the seat is long enough to sit back. Really though, i didn't buy it for any of those reasons, i bought it because i can fix everything thing on it myself and because it gets great gas milage. I didn't buy a toy to look cool, i bought vehicle to get around that happens to look cool.

    Honestly, a lot of this feedback is over the top. I have had my Interceptor for 3 years, rode about 10k miles and haven't had any rust issues. I do wash it fairly regularly, especially if I've been in lousy weather. I ride all year, so run ins with salt, mud, etc are common. The only bolts that have shown any rust on mine are aftermarket bits from Hitchcocks and the like (pillion peg relocation kit etc). While I changed out my exhaust last year, the stock mufflers never showed any sign of rust.
    I had the stock Pirelli tires on mine. They weren't great but I didn't feel the need to replace until the rear had flattened out a bit at 6k. I suspect the newer Ceat tires are worse.
    Only tedious maintenance bit are the aluminum rocker covers, crankcase etc. RE could do a better job at factory with QC on these. Regardless, aluminum is going to oxidize no matter what unless you treat it regularly.

    The third hate is nothing to do with the bike, that is just your unrealistic expectation. Go and buy a 60's Triumph or BSA if you want something authentic. As for the size, again that is more of the fact that you are 6'5" tall, any bike is going to seem small. Rust is inevitable on anything made of steel, get used to using proper cleaning and protection.

    I’ve had my INT 650 for two years and never had rust issues. I clean it with a Turtlewax ceramic product and Pigspit after every other ride and keep it garaged and it still looks brand new. A bike requiring special attention and maintenance schedule to keep it rust free while competition does not require that is the problem. It's not about how to deal with rust, it's that Transalp 600 from 95. does not rust but RE does. One have to polish engine cover on INT every second year while on Boneville it's every 10 years. That is the point. You can submerge motorcycle in engine oil for whole winter and it will never rust.

    I have a 2022 INT650 and rust does not seem to be a problem. I bought it new and take care of it. It is easy to stay ahead of stuff like rust. There are great products out there that will protect your aluminum and chrome. Was corrosion already starting to be a problem when you bought it used? A "modern" motorcycle does not suffer from obvious corrosion because they are nothing but paint and plastic. Get a metal protectant, I use Blue Magic, apply some elbow grease, and be amazed at the results. Happy shiny travels.

    All your points were interesting but I simply do not understand 3 & 4 - yes you won't get the same feeling as a 60's Triumph but remember all the short comings of that age like - the engine needed a rebuilt every 30 K - they leak oil constantly - the carbs required adjustment or cleaning too often - it was really all 1930's technology - everything was on bushings. It must be noted the RE 650 is the least expensive 650 on the market so yes there are compromises. The Japanese bikes are the standard in reliability , fit and finish but not everyone wants a bike that looks like an insect.

    I think the valve service intervals of 6,000 miles/10,000km also indicate the lower standard of the engineering. Most modern engineered bikes (retro looking or not) have 16,000+ miles valve service intervals.
    ACF50 well help keep rust at bay but XCP Clearcoat has been demonstrated to be better. However, rust after 2 months should be a warranty claim, in my opinion.

    If you want that feeling of riding an old motorcycle, buy an old motorcycle like a 1976 Triumph T140V Bonneville, if maintained correctly they are very pleasing motorcycles to own and ride.
    There's no point in buying a new motorcycle and saying it isn't like riding an old motorcycle, modern machines are different to the ones of yesteryear, emissions restrictions, ABS, fuel injection, etc have imposed changes in how manufacturers are designing their products.
    I remember the good old days with my 1977 Triumph TR7RV, in the morning, pulling the clutch lever in and giving a few prods on the kick starter to free the plates. Tickling the carb to get the petrol running over my fingers and mixing with the oil that the motor had leaked out, what a lovely smell hot oil and petrol have when mixed on the top of your gearbox. Pulling the chock lever, finding top dead centre and giving a good swing on the kick started to awaken the beast from it's slumber with a bark through the exhaust pipes. You just can't beat the sensation of riding an old classic motorcycle.

    It is funny you talk about how it feels like wearing khaki pants because since the change from the XJ to the Enfield I always felt like the videos lost a bit of cool factor. I guess you also lost the crazy factor of riding a sport bike cross country.

    The rust and corosion makes sense but for the "feelings" about riding the bike, I think feelings are a bit subjective. You may hate the feeling of a modern bike and you feel pretentious, but some people might feel like steve mcqueen and will be proud of it. I get that this is the 5 things YOU hate, but don't go around saying "You will hate this because it's not a real classic bike" because other people will definitely have a different feeling

    • @FreeMilesMC
      @FreeMilesMC  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well this video is more kind of about negativ things that people should think about or know bevor getting this bike. And I think the subjectiv opinion of how I felt on the bike can be quite important here as many people exactly want that feeling. And I also reasoned how this feeling came to be for me. So someone from the same standpoint can maybe relate or someone from a different standpoint who has for example only ridden super modern bikes with all the bells and wisles can decide that this still has enough “je ne sais que” for him

    I have had my Triumph Tr-6 with a hard tail and magneto for 40 years. Reliable and dependable transportation. If you ride your bike will get rusty . The paint will fade from the sun. My Sportster has rust here and there but it has been outside and ridden daily for 25 years and 400,000 miles on the original engine. I did pisttons and valves on my Triumph Tr-6 with a hard tail and magneto once in 40 years. I ride l don't polish bikes. Wear and tear is normal. The only perfect bikes are in museums.

    Since 2017 on/off button for ABS is permitted by the EU legislation. There will not be a on/off ABS switch.

      @@FreeMilesMC I would be more than happy if proven wrong. If anyone has any other info, other than that 2017. legislation, please post it here. It makes no sense in not having this switchable for so many bikes other the one I mentioned. Even the motorcycle designers usually are not that cheap and lazy.

    • @FreeMilesMC

      @lauraiss1027 I tried reading in to this quit a bit when making a review on the Ducati scrambler. And there is nothing stated in text banning off switchable abs that I found. The thing is laws are not just a thing of how they are written but also how they are interpreted by the executive.
      But my understanding is that off switchable abs is still fine. And there are modern bikes that have it.
      Also often it’s confusing with reviews online and texts from the manufacturer. Soon there will be a review of a bike on the channel where other reviews say the absolute is completely off switchable at the rear wheel but when I tested it it seemed to have some kind of offroad abs that would work quite when it came to stopping the bike but stoped the bike from sliding out.

    • @lauraiss1027
      @lauraiss1027 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I looked into it and there are zounds of off-road and few on-road, road legal bikes that has ABS off button. I do not want to delete my initial statement so it stays there for educational purposes, but I am wrong and now I have no idea why they just don't put a button to disable ABS. My statement was made because of reading and obviously misinterpreting the EU law. ABS must be available but there is little info on option to disable. I stand myself corrected and sorry for that.

      I think that could be part of the explanation. As these bikes are made for India I think they are mostly fine in warmer weather. My main motorcycle befor this was a very tuff Japanese bike that ofcourse then sat the standards quite high. Also I took the motorcycle camping so it stood outside during my camping trip.
