Final Fantasy X Fiend Capturing Episode 1: Capturing Overview Including Lightning Dodging Minigame

- Hello all, and welcome to my Final Fantasy X Overpowered guide! This is the first capturing episode, which focuses on the capturing aspect of the game (obviously). Capturing is very important because you need 10 of every creature to unlock Nemesis, and you also get some fantastic rewards for capturing various groups of monsters. I would strongly recommend that you use an app to keep track of how many of each fiend yiu have captured. I used 'Checklist for FFX' on Android.

**THIS WALKTHROUGH CONTAINS SPOILERS THROUGHOUT**
I've recently seen a lot of people playing the Final Fantasy X Remastered release on Xbox One, and there are many people who play it without knowing the best techniques for efficiently grinding the end-game and getting the Dark Aeons and Penance.
Not only that, but it's a very fun game to be overpowered in, which is something I love doing in games.
In this episode we start the capturing process. Capturing is important because you get some excellent rewards and you have to capture 10 of each enemy to unlock Nemesis in the Monster Arena.
Capturing is easy for the early areas. I would strongly recommend the following skills on your capture weapons:
Capture-First Strike for Tidus (or whoever has Provoke)
Capture-Initiative for one of your main party characters
Due to the fact that these early areas are so easy to defeat that you might as well use it to your advantage. If you get an extra 2 Capture weapons with Distill Speed & Distill Mana, you can get lots of Mana and Speed Spheres and permanently raise Anima's MP and Agility. That helps later if you want to raise your character's Magic stat, so it's worth considering.
For this playthrough, I will be doing some videos of things to watch out for along the way. This focuses on 3 early-game grinds to get way ahead on some skills and have a blast wrecking everything in your path! It also involves a fair bit of Blitzball in Luca, but that bit is sort of optional. This playthrough will be a Standard Grid playthrough because it lets you use Break HP Limit more effectively if that's the route you choose to go down. The Expert Grid has its own advantages, but isn't good for BHPL enthusiasts.
The key points of the endgame grind are:
Capture 10 of all monsters (see my capturing video series!)
Get strong enough to beat One Eye
Farm One Eye for Triple AP + 2 free slot weapons for your main characters
Customize Overdrive to AP and Triple Overdrive on those weapons
Level up using the Don Tonberry trick to get S-levels
Raise stats and until you can beat Juggernaut
Max Strength, then other stats.
Raise Luck to an appropriate level.
Beat the Dark Aeons and Penance.

Unless I'm using Distill Mana to get more spheres...but I just use the extra capture weapons I make, usually.

For myself i used the pendulums from the temple race to put master thief on the spare slot of mp stroll armour for tidus and just had cursor memory set to mug straight away for rare steals. Following your guide demon i was way op by time i got to calm lands and tweeked your ways a little for myself.
Yup, that's a fine alternative too! I like the extra level 3 Spheres with Kimahri, but it's a close call.

Okay, after farming, searching and researching, I've come to the conclusion.... that the "distill X" ability for weapons only exists in the remastered game
I cannot get it, customize it or buy it, I just... will farm with long hours of it
They're in every version other than Japanese PS2 and Northern American original PS2 IIRC.
They were added in International PS2 with the Dark Aeons, which is the version that the HD Remasters are.
Wow would've been nice if the game told you the capture attack had to be physical. Wasted at least half the Gil I had on a capture weapon for lulu
lmao I’m about 56hours in(spent a lot time doing chocobo racing but still can’t get 0.0.0), just finished yunalasca and got airship, about to start capturing so I’m searching for guides online, my tides currently hits for like 2k and I’m so poor…lmao

There are a few important shortcuts for Strength. Get Yojimbo from the Cavern of the Fayth, then save and immediately return to him to get Strength Sphere (the use the Teleport pad to get out).
Then if you haven't already, get the No Encounter gear (it's in one of my videos somewhere) and dodge 50 lightning bolts, which is pretty easy with No Encounters and the crater trick. That gets you 3 Strength Spheres. Put all 4 Spheres together in a part of the grid where Tidus, Wakka and Rikku can converge and then you're well on your way.

I can't rise Anima's stats, because I forgot to speak to Belgemine in the calm lands, what can I do?
Go to Remiem Temple and beat her there; she gives you the Summoner's Soul there instead.

I followed this guide only thing that doesnt make sense to me is how don tonberry is hitting 99k on you and only like 13k on my tidus alone suppose ill have to pump up them numbers doe
Its pure numbers; how many kills Tidus had. Thr vast majority of encounters after Thunder Plains had Tidus killing one or two monsters, and he killed nearly every single one during capturing (which is hundreds of kills).

Sir why you raising anime mp and agi ? In your other guide against one eye you need str right ?
It's for beating Jumbo Flan later on, if you want to farm Magic Spheres.
no plans on dodging 200 lightning for lulu I got to 97 consecutive dodges and I got hit I stopped haha, kimahri's and wakka's are workable
Yeah, Lulu is the worst character late-game anyway

Do capturing then follow the Stat Maxing guide. You need enough of all the Dual Horns to unlock Juggernaut.
I remember there used to be a trick to get 4 slot capture weapons, anyone else remember that or is this the Mandela Effect?
Mandela effect, sadly! Capture weapons have only ever been able to have 1 free slot, and it's only the ones that are bought from the Arena Master.
It'd be a much easier process if you could customise more slots! Ah well..c'est la vie.
Iirc it was in the prima strategy guide for ffx you ignore arena until a certain point then visit it, and he will sell 4 slot capture weapons instead, I clearly remember designing 4 slot weapons, I'm gonna see if I can find the guide online, this is gonna hound me until I do
@@emptycradle1304 with all due respect my dude, that's not a thing. It would be known if capture weapons could ever have more than 1 slot.
Actually, iirc I never used them I would just get the 2 slot cappers I tried using the 4 but I found they just were not worth the extra effort of customization. I'm not worried about it, just wondering if anyone else remembers that.
what if none of my characters take 99,999 damage from karma?
This is why you do capturing before the stat maxing process and use Rikku or Tidus to amass lots of kills during he capturing process. That boosts their kills so that Karma deals more damage.
Alternatively you can fight n enemy that deals 99k damage without Karma, such as Kottos before you raise your defense, or Dark Ixion with its counter during the first, repeatable encounter.
@@DPhoenix237 oh, okay. This is my first play through and I've been following your op guide. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Btw, I can't raise animas stats, is it because I haven't been using my aeons much?

Im on Standard sphere grid i have captured 10 of every enemy in each area nemesis hasn't unlocked for me i heard u have to beat all the enemies in area conquest species conquest and original monster conquest and is it ok to sell my capture weapons when i have captured 10 of every enemy in each area and you unlock clear spheres for capturing 10 of every monster in each area they cost 10,000 gil there useful for getting rid of those plus 1 stats i didnt go for bhpl i went with creating the ribbon
Yes, to unlock Nemesis you must have defeated every Area, Species and Original creation once.
Clear Spheres are useful, but I only use them for clearing Luck Nodes that aren't +4. There isn't any need otherwise unless you're going to use Break HP Limit, in which case you should clear everything that isn't a +4 sphere, a +300 HP Sphere or a +40MP sphere.
And yes, you can indeed sell your capture weapons once you've captured 10 of every fiend.
So strength spheres are the 1st thing you wanna farm 1st then would u say defense spheres next from tanket for survivability or it doesnt matter? Ik luck and fortune should be last and what armor setup would be good against the dark aeons would auto haste and auto protect or even auto phoenix be useful?
@@marktomlin5818 Yep, I'll be doing a full stat-maxing guide after the capturing section, but basically beat One Eye and get Triple AP weapons for your main three characters, use the Don Tonberry trick to complete the sphere grid, and then you'll be strong enough to comfortably beat Juggernaut and you'll have over 170 Agility too.
Max Strength, then Defence/Magic Defence and then you can do Luck/Accuracy/Evasion in any order? Magic is optional and should be done last because the best way is to use Anima and her stats will be higher if all Yuna's other stats have been raised.
I’ve been following your guide and it’s very helpful. For robbery’s Kama though I’m only getting 16500 damage for Tidus which doesn’t make sense because I’ve been using him since beginning. Does the kill count start after the monster arena opens?
No, it's the whole game. That's odd. Maybe try some other characters and see what their damage from Karma is, or just use Rikku (like I show in these capturing videos) to raise her kills.
Phoenix237 thanks will try her out. Also did the dark ixion fight and he did 99k damage on all then I escaped but still tonberry was only doing same amount of damage, wakka was getting 9k damage and rikku 5k damage.
This is an old comment, but were you using Tonberry or Don Tonberry?
@@weejockrock yes has t be don tonberry im currently doing the playthrough now and tonberry isnt hitting me for anything but don is hitting tidus for 99999

I've got a new playthrough at the moment, and no lie Tidus was hitting 99,999 with Caladbolg after 34 hours, and I'd done all capturing in Omega Ruins and every other area before I even went to Sin for the first time.
@@DPhoenix237 I haven't tried using Caldbolg tbh. Also haven't done capturing in Omega yet, iirc you get tons of AP in it

You should have warned people about Dark Yojimbo being in the cavern of stolen faith before suggesting capturing in it. Being able to fight Don Tonberry to check damage levels requires captures here, but you can't go all the way to the back without getting trapped. I farmed for over an hour and lost it all because I couldn't get past the dark aeon once I went in.
This is just the Overview of the process and covers the basics and early areas.
If you follow the walkthrough in order then this episode says about capturing one of each monster in the Sunken Cave on your first time through the Calm Lands. Dark Yojimbo won't be there then.
Episode 3 of the capturing guide dully explains about capturing in the Sunken Cave and covers Dark Yojimbo and how to avoid him on the way back.
@@DPhoenix237 You didn't say it had to be done on the first time through, and anyway this episode is for later in the game when it's already too late. Still a good video series, but you should remove the sunken cave suggestion from this video and put it in the one that covers the sunken cave on first time through it.
@@zippythepinheaddotorg2133 You can't get trapped by Yojimbo, if he apears go back and activate the plataform at the center of the room
it will take you back to the cave's entrance ;)
Is there an easy way to get rikku to hit harder? I can’t get her over 1k. I guess I need to get her to go into another sphere grid tree.
Yeah, she just needs Strength nodes activating. You get 1 from Yojimbo's fayth if you visit him after having the airship, and 3 from dodging 50 lightning bolts.
Wakka and Auron's grids are good for Strength too.
My rikku only hits for 6-700 I took her down the wrong page.....
Just use Tidus then, it's no big deal.
Me too i really wonder why everyone in yt loves to use rikku , and their rikku is strong while mine cant even make 500 dmg hahahaha
@@kentkirbangdamgo1740 have you got the 3 strength spheres from dodging 50 lightning then planted them at the end of tidus grid near quick hit and moved rikku + others there and start making your way through his grid in reverse?
If not thats why she and probably others are still weak
@@adenglen5104 When i was playing ps2 and now before i saw Phoenix's guide i just follow My instincts , and yea my instincts are that bad its becuz I love how Lulu makes huge damage in the early part of the game so I want to put them all to her grid 🤣 But Now I already killed penance and just grinding Yojimbo's Math and Making My Blitzball players reach level 99 😅 FFX is near perfect
@@kentkirbangdamgo1740 That's how I played it on the ps2 as well hahah I'm amazed I ever got anima if it wasn't for my freinds help back then I probably wouldn't of been able to complete it... Thank god for youtube videos these days but it does take some of the fun out following along instead of going by gut but at the same time I love being over powered and smashing it and I hate missing things like the Al bhed books or destruction spheres that make you need to restart if you have gaming OCD 😂

Blitzball is really fun when you get past that first match in the story, I left it to my friend before but now phoenix has shown me the way ^^
I bet your players are unstoppable at lvl 99 must be very satisfying, I've played loads of it already but had to reset so I'm not sure I'll get there ;p

How are you hitting for 9999 at this point in the game? I'm just about to beat the game, and Auron has the highest strength at 44, Tidus at 41, and 3rd is someone with like...24. How does Rikku hit for so much damage? I've found zero strength sphere, and there's only like 1-2 strength nodes in each of the upcoming node clusters in any of my character's grids. It feels like I'm hundreds of sphere levels away from even starting the arena. Is there a massive grind required that nobody, in any guide/walkthrough, mentions?
