    I was born and raised in Calgary. I immigrated to marry my girl friend, who I met in Calgary she was a Texan. I love Calgary and if you are a foodie it is heaven. Ethnic restaurants fill the phone books. The history, the culture and the outdoors are big pluses. But for me, after Texas, the climate is way too harsh. The winters too long, I guess I am just getting old.

    I currently live in Brampton, ON (originally grew up in Mississauga, ON), but after visiting the Rockies I am fixated on living out that way. On a trip out west while my wife was on a 3 day work trip to Calgary, I flew out there to join her at the end of her work trip for us to drive out to Canmore, Banff and part of the Ice Highway. I proposed to her with Peyto Lake in the background. After another trip where we did a road trip (flew into Calgary) from Calgary, to Banff, to Jasper, down to Emerald Lake, then Kelowna and finally to Vancouver Island (Tofino and Victoria), I’ve been trying to convince to move out to Calgary. I work for a company that has plant in Calgary and since I have a national role, I can move out there and retain the same job. I’m hoping I can move at that way in 2 yrs (or less), no matter what. Ontario is fine, but Alberta is calling, especially now that I have a Toyota 4Runner.

    I recently moved from Vancouver and unfortunately my impression of Calgary is that of a dying city, just yesterday I saw 6 or 7 african men (I know they were from Africa because of the language) and 1 women fighting over what appeared to be drugs at the exit of the Real Canadian Superstore in the East Village. I'm really concerned because if things continue like this I'll have to get into a debt to buy a car.

    • @calgaryliferealestate

      Well, that is unfortunate. Though to be fair I think Vancouver's drug problem is more serious than here in Calgary. You should watch our video titled Recession Proof in 2023 for current and future economics of Calgary. We also had a huge uptick in migration from BC residents into Alberta in 2022 as well as people from Ontario. So Alberta overall is experiencing solid migration into the province.

    I believe you are greatly uderestimating the “cold” part. Not to mention the harsh constant winds and then wild swings in pressure/temperature. But a lot of people don’t spend time outside, they just bragg about the “sunny” side seen from indoors. Also, not the polite town it once was…

    • @calgaryliferealestate
      @calgaryliferealestate  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We couldn't disagree more. The stereotype that Calgary is this cold wintery place is just that, a stereotype. Can it get cold here in the winter...for sure. But if you ask many people that have moved here from say Ontario, I think many, maybe not all would say the Calgary weather (winter) is not nearly as bad as they thought it might be. Summer is pretty good as well. We get our share of rain but it's still a pretty dry climate here. You are correct about the swings in pressure and temperature. We can definitely get that but it's also one of things that brings the warm chinook winds in the winter. The outside lifestyle is real here as we have active people who spend time in our abundance of green spaces walking, or cycling, mountain biking and hiking in the Rockies, skiing or snowshoeing in the winter. Like anywhere in the world...no place is perfect, including Calgary. But I can think of a lot worse place to live. Thanks for you comment. P.S..."Calgary, Alberta tops the sunniest places in Canada and receives a respectable 2405 hours and 333 days of sunshine a year."

      @@calgaryliferealestate - People from Ontario moved to Calgary mainly because they cashed in there big time on their homes and bought 2-3 in for the same money. Sunny, yes, but so is Inuvik, more so than Calgary. Does it help with cold? Not so much. Of course there’s worse to choose from but after 22 years of living in Calgary I can say it’s usually cold. Yes, there’s skiing close (although snowfall is not sufficient - this year’s Lake Louise example), yes there are activities to do. Btw, I drive to Fernie for skiing for the same reason: too dry in Alberta therefore not enough snowfall. Periodic dumps. It just doesn’t compare…There are many good things about Calgary and Alberta but the climate is not one of them.

    I was born in Calgary when the population was about 1/10th of what it is now. People were friendly and helpful. The City was so easy to drive in and small enough that you could get across town during rush hour in a very short time. But, that was long ago and the City grew up. Unfortunately, it did not become a better place. It is a typical, large North American city, with all that entails.
    I no longer live in Calgary and am much happier. I don't even like going there and don't recommend anyone move there.
