As a born and raised Calgarian, I felt proud of being a Canadian and a Calgarian. This video was great . I find that if you practice patience, you can learn to deal with the growing pains of the people moving here. When I was born, Calgary had 310,000 people.

Unfortunately we are getting alot of illegals here who have criminal records via USA and abroad. I aided with CPS In our neighborhood as we had 2 professional criminal gangs shack up here in the past 2 years, not Canadian citizens! And now with the housing shortage we have 9-12 people living in 900-1500 sq ft homes. Read the story about the house explosion recently. Increase in violence at Ctrain stations, increased homelessness is a concern and the handgun traffic from the US is increasing. Even our park has homeless tents now.
I've been here for decades. The past 5 years our neighborhoods have seriously suffered. Our mayor has gotta go! And so with Trudeau.

I think this is a good look at the city. There are some amazing vibrant communities that offer unique experiences. As well, the rental market is extremely challenging for those who can’t afford to buy. That is becoming a barrier to entry and people coming here should be aware of that.

Amazing video and absolutely on point! I moved out to Calgary last month from Ontario and I'm already certain I'm never moving back :D! You're definitely right when saying it's not for everyone but the fast-paced lifestyle of Toronto was not for me. I am originally from Grenada, a very small Island in the Caribbean and Calgary is the perfect balance of a big city with a small-town vibe. I can't wait to explore more! Also...almost every part of the city is within a 20-30min drive and the Rockies in your backyard is just breathtaking!!

The rentals for the two bedroom condo in Calgary costs around 2000-4000, which it was 1200- 1800 two years ago. Now it is not affordable anymore. The average house price is around 600 k. If you work in the oil & gas industry, your salaries are above 100 k , you can afford 600 k above houses. If you work in the other industries, you do not earn 100 k. When the oil price drops, you lost the jobs in that industry. the homeless and crime rates hike in downtown area.

The value fell as low as the $180,000's , now in May 2024, I'm almost up what we bought it for in 2008. As a land surveyor for 18 years now - the ups and downs have been insane! But I'm truly proud to be (a born Newfoundlander - first 28 years and since 2006 - a proud resident of the beautiful world class city of Calgary! I love being a proud Canadian citizen and will be for life ❤️

Great video Brad. Calgary is a very intriguing city for me as the business sector seems to be doing much better there than Toronto where I live. Working as a real estate agent in Toronto is impossible with over 30,000 agents in the city. The market seems to be a little better in Calgary whereas in Toronto, it has been going downhill for over past few years. I can totally see myself moving to Calgary in a year or 2 and continue my career as a Real Estate Agent.

I had lived in Calgary from 2007 through 2012. When the oil & gas boom had stopped and the oil projects closed down, I lost my job at and decided to leave the city for a job in another province. If I hadn't lost my job at that time, I would have never left Calgary which is until these days my favorite city in Canada. Finding a rental home has always been and is a major challenge there. Also, finding a job in Calgary without a car is not an option.

Fantastic and very informative video. Growing up an hour north of Toronto, a lot of things have had me questioning if I want to stick around here. I am a wedding photographer with a wife and two young kids, and after building my business over the past 10+ years, we cannot afford to purchase a home here without spending absolutely everything that we have. Thus, the reason I have been looking around a little bit to see if we can grow our roots elsewhere. I will definitely be bringing your video to my wife's attention over our dinner tonight :)

I'm hoping to move my family to Calgary next year, but the prices of many houses have gone up a lot. It makes my burden even heavier.
I don't even dare to watch the introductory video of the Chinese Calgary house. Because for the same house, the Chinese offer is even a staggering 30% higher than the Taiwanese!😮‍💨

What I LIKE about Calgary is housing prices. What I DON'T LIKE is those areas almost in the city centre (such as Parkdale) look like remote outskirts. it's almost no city in the city.

    • @BradMcCallum

@@WizardHarry69 Calgary's unemployment rate is 5.9% - which is the same as Vancouvers. Toronto is WORSE at 6.5%. More good news - when you get a job in Calgary, the average income is higher than anywhere else in Canada. If you had a hard time finding a job/doctor here, I'm sorry, but the reality is its hard everywhere, but a bit easier here.

Also the health care is getting worse. It took me three years to find a family doctor without changing the family doctors all the time, most of my friends who are from other countries and do not have regular family doctors. If you want to see the specialists , you need to wait for 6 months - one year for a check out. Also there is no rent control in Alberta, there are many people who move in Alberta, many people who have an issue to find a affordable rental properties. However, it is still cheaper than other big cities like Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal.
