If you enjoy character action/beat-em-up, then may I recommend to you the likes of - Clash: Artifacts of Chaos - Soulstice - Magenta Horizon - Decline's Drops - Cookie Cutter And share with you the upcoming - Immortal: And the Death that Follows - Enenra Daemon Core - Yasuke: A Lost Descendant - Mightreya A few of them aren't exclusively combat-focused (Decline's Drops is a 2D platformer for example and Cookie Cutter is a hand-drawn *smooth* 2D metroidvania) but do have a big combat emphasis. And it's fun! There's also a channel by name of TheBanBanGames (existed way before Poppy Playtime) that makes moveset videos of these types of games. Nanobreaker, the Lords of Shadows games, the Darksiders series, Soulstice, Afro Samurai, etc.
Hah, this came at the perfect time. I just started replaying this yesterday and was a bit confused on the controls. The pressure sensitive buttons are giving me a hard time with games I'm replaying through an emulator. I loved this game as a kid and replaying it now, I still think it's pretty charming.

N oh yea definitely besides gameplay stuff this has a toooon of personality! But since we cover combat only - yeee it’s hard to ignore those weaker aspects unfortunately
I liked that the game had expanded endings based on how many times you beat it. Also, in one of my playthroughs, I beat it using exclusively the donkey kick, for reasons I don't remember.

Now crazy thing I've been playing urban reign n its shaping up to be everything bouncer was trying to do. Story isn't as ambitious tho but gameplay wise its doing what I wanted to see from bouncer's mechanics. So it'll be interesting to see the difference in execution

If you want a beat em up that utilizes ragdoll physics well I'd suggest you embrace the clunk that is We Could Be Heros. Enemies have a pinball effect and it's just ridiculous in every way.

Heard about this game from some other youtubers, but I never really checked it out. If you'd like a suggestion, maybe the Yakuza games for PS2 ? They have some pretty fun combat systems imo ( or rather, the first game is fun, but the second game is definitely better )

This game could litteraly be the next Kiwami,Kakuto Chojin,Urban Rein.This game just needs combo balance like Tekken basically certain moves knock you down and some combo's have your* opponent still continue standing while you use some combo's.

Whoah, someone who knows of Kakuto Chojin! I believe that one was made later by the same company that made The Bouncer, too. There's mechanics in Kakuto Chojin that are still fascinating to this day, like the Health-bar-doubles-as-Special-Meter, and the character-specific music starting on who first succesfully lands a damaging hit on the other person. The division between Kakuto and Chojin movesets makes me think a bit of Street Fighter 6's Beginner and Normal input options, too.

@@o_uwu_o there is some depth on the combat of sh3 and homecoming, and a variety of melee weapons, differently from resident evil, silent hill focus more on melee weapons, the combat focus of homecoming was one of the aspect people disliked back then, but the story is mid though, it seems the sh2 remake has some focus on the combat too

This is probably the most floaty and least impactful-feeling beat 'em up game I've ever seen. The way your characters can easily slump over and ragdoll after being being hit is really pathetic and funny.

Wow this is pretty dishonest. The game gives you multiple moves, but you don't want to learn them, nor even look up the combos. For some reason that's the game's faults. The game has three modes, and you only play on easy, and then complain about the enemies not being aggressive. For some reason that's the game's fault. The game has button sensitive pressing and directional attacks with a slower pace in movement to persuade a more methodical approach toward beat-em-ups, but you just want to mash and complain about unresponsiveness. For some reason that's the game's fault. [sigh]... There are actual problems with the game (like the wall glitch, or the grab bug, or the very cryptic way to unlock characters and to get endings, or how you won't know the backstory of the game if you have a good disc spinner in your PS2, since the backstory for the cast are only displayed during loading screens, or if you beat the game too fast and skip certain cutscenes that can actually erase off the endings from your save file prompting you to get them again), but you tried to force a play into the game that wasn't designed for it and got disappointed. That is stupid. What is the point of reviewing the game, or playing it, if you aren't going to engage with it?
I've felt some dissatisfaction with a few previous videos too, like the ones on Chaos Legion and Lament of Innocence. That's why i like to look into the comments too, to see what input other people can bring. There's people that will have a longer time, perhaps even years, of learning a game in and out. A game may have resonated more with them, or they may have had more patience for things, but either way: it's good to see what aspects of the game others can shed a light on.

So I put in the time n then some to really make sure what I was saying is true n I feel like the gameplay speaks for itself as well. Enemies don’t fight back or push us to adapt once so ever. I take enemy ai very seriously when it comes to playing engaging combat. So when that isn’t present - it’s a massive flaw to me. That alone negates any n all reason to experiment w moves bc they would be no point. Dmc2 is possible to pull off combos w his new arsenal but it has no weight or meaning since enemies are so underdeveloped. It’s the same situation here here w bouncer. N no I didn’t play on easy I beat the game on normal n ran through ng plus which supposedly improves enemies but none such changes were seen. They were still docile n unremarkable - same for bosses. It’s how I got to the secret 3rd extra phase on final boss n how the same strategy worked no matter who I played, what I fought, or what ng plus. Game doesn’t challenge the player w smarter enemies, remixed groupings, new boss atks, no nothing. It fails to deliver on the fundamentals n reason why it’s not worth engaging on a deeper lvl - bc there’s nothing there. For a real methodical game that really puts effort to having its mechanics go to good use - check out Onimusha 1 or Kingdom Hearts 1. Actions are committal, placement is key, enemies must be respected, n their patterns need to be memorized to take advantage of the tank controls n issens. If they had tweaked an extra layer of varying hitstun and only applied ragdolls to knockdown attacks, the combat could've flowed so much better
