The sad thing is that devs don't realize they don't have to go more realism/detail at this point. For action games, there's no reason to have less than 60fps. For RPGs and less action oriented games, sure, go for detail, but in action games, I'd rather stare at flat shaded, low detail everything and max frame rate, which is even more important these days with lag introduced by all this video processing between the when the consoles spit out the image and when it appears on screen. I play lots of old games on CRT and if you don't actually do this, you won't ever realize just how bad lag gets on some of these new games with high resolutions, or dealing with televisions upscaling internally.
@@heavysystemsinc. wow, I completely agree with this. I play street fighter v, and wish that they went for a more stylized look. Street fighter 3 from the late 90's shouldn't be looking better lol

At the time a majority of people felt that SquareSoft had laid a really pretty looking and hollow, piece of crap. Beyond that, it's a personal retrospective.

Speaking of games that got completely lambasted and destroyed because of a few voices within the games-journosphere, I would seriously like to see you take a look at a little game called NeverDead. A game so panned by western critics on release, that it was the last original IP Konami ever released, and that it irreparably destroyed the director's career. The director being Shinta Nojiri, who some of you might remember from games such as Policenauts and the Metal Gear series (Acid specifically). And did the game actually deserve such a harsh beating? Well, I'm hoping you might give it a try and decide for yourself.
@@AvalancheReviews The concept is very cool as well, and I think a lot of the criticism aimed at it came from a lack of understanding of the game's mechanics. I actually snagged this a few years ago for $1.99, and I gotta say, it's pretty fun. I have a strong feeling that most reviewers of the time did exactly one playthrough with one character and called it a day. Also, this game's got style for days, and I can always appreciate that

This happens to be my most favorite fighting game. I always saw it as the most unique fighting game since it was more of an adventure rpg fighting game. You totally forgot to mention the experience of multiplayer mode, playing the different badass characters you come across in the game. You also didn’t talk about how badass the game’s soundtrack is. The music to this game will always be my soundtrack as a kid. You forgot to say how great and entertaining Mugetsu can be. There’s so much you left out.
The nostalgia is real. I still remember Le Bouncer, Oni, 007 Agent Under Fire being one of the first Ps2 games that blew my mind away with the power of the Ps2. Gamepro Magazine, Electronic Gaming, Playstation Magazine...Man do i feel old. Thanks for the video as always.
Oh my ... I remember buying this game when I was about 10, I had no idea what it was but I was still really excited to play it. When I went home to play it, the CD just wouldn't work. I went back to the place and they gave me a second CD which didn't work either. That sucked. But for some reason I never forgot about the game's name or the main character. Today I thought to myself, "hey I wanna see what that game was like." which introduced me to your channel. Awesome content. Thank you for such amazing video subjects, I love watching obscure and relatively forgotten old ass games. It's also awesome that you're a bouncer lol. Subbed.
One of my favorite things about this game is how there was an alternate game mode where you could play as all the fighters in the game. Playing as the enemies was so much fun. I poured so many hours just playing around with the different movesets.

Don’t ask me why but this game is an absolute favourite of mine! I ran through it so many times getting the different scenarios and unlocking all the optional characters. I still pick it up every so often and still enjoy it to this day
I recall picking up a copy of "The Bouncer" on the early ps2 days, and I really liked the game, the graphics looked superb for such an early release game, and although the game physics aren't perfect, the mass of the characters feel just right, especially when connecting combos and fighting through corridors, trains and even ships. I agree with you, I still like to play the game every now and then just to relive some good old ps2 glory.
Loved this game! Me, my little brother and the next door neighbor all took turns playing this til we beat it. We all used a different character too and stuck with our pick all the way through. I picked Sion, my lil brother was Kou and our neighbor was Volt. Each character was unique and had their own fighting styles that differed from the others. Plus you slowly got stronger over time and all 3 characters kept their upgrades throughout all the levels even if the AI was playing them. To me it was just awesome all the way through.
Dude, your videos are amazing, and as much I enjoy each of these Trashed Classics, it kills me that you haven't done a Grandia 3 one even though it's in the opening. Help a brother out? Keep up the great work!

0:29 that’s a HUGE ISSUE in gaming. That’s why TH-camr’s are called “influencers” now. I think reviews are great, but people have completely lost the ability to form independent opinions... everyone just adopts whatever the most pervasive narrative is. And people assume “if everyone feels this way, it must be true”, without realizing that perception is done in “trickle-down” manner, where even the BIGGEST influencers on TH-cam look at other to shape the opinion that they will then push to their audience. It’s kind of sad.

But I remember every magazine kind of crapping on The Bouncer when it was released... And when I got it, I can’t tell you how many of my friends outright said it sucked, despite the fact that they had never played it. And yeah, it’s flawed as hell, but it still attempts more than many of its contemporaries were doing, and I feel that it nicely lands more than it misses. I don’t like using the phrase “ahead of its time” because I don’t think it applies, and in this case, I don’t think the Bouncer was revolutionary, but it was far better than it ever got credit for being, and I think that a remake (not a remaster) would be well-received today, especially if Square made it (because people immediately love anything that Squenix does)... Especially if it had 3-player co-op.

I loved this game when it came out and would love to play it again, yea it had its fleas but lots of classic titles did back in the day, this game was pure fun
Remember how instead of using the PS shape buttons they made up their own buttons for the moves? At least the Kou posing section used the regular buttons.
Super good video man thought I was the only one that's played this game all the way through knowing that it's not that good but it is fun can't wait for more good content from you
There was a mechanic that took use of the PS2 controller's touch sensitive buttons where if you lightly pressed square, you would do one move, but if you heavily pressed square, you did a completely different move. And you had to pay close attention to how you pressed these buttons bc you would have combos using the same button but going back and forth between light and heavy presses. ...and I can tell OP didn't use a PS2 controller and played this on an emulator, because he spams the same combos over and over. There was a very deep combo system that is forever lost because of the button sensitivity technology not being carried over from the PS2 controllers because..... no one used it. Much like the six axis functionality.
When I first bought a PS2 I only had GTA3 and Devil May Cry so a friend let me borrow The Bouncer for a weekend and I remember really trying to get into it. I loved the style, a lot of the scenes and gameplay, but could never fully fall in love with it. I need to try it again.
I remember seeing the trailer for this game on one of the last PS1 demo disks and being so excited for it. I know I played it at a friend's place, but can't remember what I thought. Those long cut scenes are very MGS, haha.
I bought this game at launch. Even pre-ordered it from a local EB Games and they gave the soundtrack CD with it. Bought the strategy guide too. Loved the game and pretty much unlocked everything. Was hoping Sony would have this included in the PS2 on PS4 program so I could play it again with trophies. Not really into beat them ups, but I really enjoyed this one and its silly physics.
This was one of my favourite PS2 games of the era along with sequel cancelled XIII some days i wish for a remake and then realise how that went with XIII...

Pure nostalgia. The graphics still look incredible to me. Art style is fantastic, I think I played 20times.
I enjoyed it. It reminded me of Fighting force on the PS1.
And I was all about square back then.
Omg. Who else completely forgot about this game yet now seeing this remembered it all instantly
If They Remaster This And Make a Part 2!!!! That Would Be Amzing
Remember how instead of using the PS shape buttons they made up their own buttons for the moves? At least the Kou posing section used the regular buttons.
as someone who loves the Bouncer, and who's group of friend's love The Bouncer, we thank you haha
I still have my original copy of this game. I adored this game back in the day and played through it several times.
This was one of my favorite PS2 era games. Was fun leveling up each individual character and having slight differences in the way you play and all.
Yeah, I've always loved it. I can see why people don't, but it has always been fun for me.
Super good video man thought I was the only one that's played this game all the way through knowing that it's not that good but it is fun can't wait for more good content from you
Thank you man!
Damn i remember seeing the boxart for this game and thinking it looked really cool. Never got to play it at the time though...Great video as always!
Daaaaamm classic Trashed Classic intro. Sweet!
Re2 remake scenario b reference was spot on mind 😂
This was actually the very first game I saw on the PS2 when it first released at a friend's house. I kind of forgot about this one.
Never played but Sion and Volt seem so familiar.
Loved this game, one of a short number of ps2 games that me and my mate will still go back to and enjoy.
This was my first PS2 game ever, so it holds a special place in my heart.
I remember taking a chance on these game as a kid and man I was so lucky. I love this game
I had so many problems with this game, but I still had so much fun playing it. Wanna give the game a run again now.
Bro I like this video most underrated game ever and I still either want a remake or part 2 honestly
title voice haha (The Bouncer!!!!) Snake whats wrong snake
.... snake ..... SNAAAAAKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEERE!
I love it! i figure I could probably pull off that kind of voice in my videos. HA
Im giving you a like, simply for covering this, before even watching it.
This needs a sequel
I actually happen to like this game.
You are not alone
@@AvalancheReviews Volt was my Favorite character
Why does your voice sound like a perfect mix of superbunnyhop and Steve Blum? 😂 great videos guy keep it up
Ha! Haven't got that before, but I'll take it.
I remember being so hyped for this back in the days. When it released i played through it once and never touched it again. I was so disappointed.
When I first bought a PS2 I only had GTA3 and Devil May Cry so a friend let me borrow The Bouncer for a weekend and I remember really trying to get into it. I loved the style, a lot of the scenes and gameplay, but could never fully fall in love with it. I need to try it again.
I remember having quite a bit of fun with is game back when it came out.
I remember seeing the trailer for this game on one of the last PS1 demo disks and being so excited for it. I know I played it at a friend's place, but can't remember what I thought.
Those long cut scenes are very MGS, haha.
It's not even that they were long. It's that they were broken up into several, when just one would have been fine.
@@AvalancheReviews right right 👍
I bought this game at launch. Even pre-ordered it from a local EB Games and they gave the soundtrack CD with it. Bought the strategy guide too. Loved the game and pretty much unlocked everything.
Was hoping Sony would have this included in the PS2 on PS4 program so I could play it again with trophies.
Not really into beat them ups, but I really enjoyed this one and its silly physics.
dude.. i realized when i was a kid i didn't even use any skill points because this was my first type of game where it had that option..
This was one of my favourite PS2 games of the era along with sequel cancelled XIII some days i wish for a remake and then realise how that went with XIII...
Man, I remember magazine reviewers giving this average scores (somehow 7 out of 10 is average), and kind of shitting on it. I still ended up buying it because I thought it looked cool. I couldn't understand the negative reviews, because I thought it was fun. So thanks for the positivity, despite the flaws.
i played this as a kid and i remember it being difficult and i struggled after the train mission for some reason😂 it’s one of those games i never finished and won’t touch again but i’m not mad about it, it was fun at the time
This game paved the way for the Arkham series. If it were ever recreated, using the Arkham mechanics would be amazing.
Remember this game, very good graphics back then, in my big fat 29'' tv. I give up after have my ass kicked a hundred times! xD
This is such an underrated Gem sure it's not perfect but did a lot of awesome things that are now commonplace in most games!
This game is so underrated never in my life I laughed and had so much fun on how the mechanics were
I loved this game as a kid! What are you guys saying lol
