This type of behaviour in autism (and could be for any of this type of conditions/ syndromes) is called SIBS ~ Self Injurious Behaviours. With autism they seek pressure even if they hurt themselves. There are support groups and BT's (Behavioural Therapist) that can teach you to modify or distract autistic kids from SIBS. I find as our boys got older, they do outgrow this behaviours if you intervene it early enough. T & J rubber pieces are among other things like biting rings can help. Direct the biting in another object. Hope this has helped. There are currently 1,019 genetic markers for autism. So if you can also get your child(ren) genetically tested, this helps your directions of care better. Our 2 boys have different types of autism we learnt. Here where this boy lives, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada has many places for testing autism ~ Dr. Stephen Scherer at Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto, Ontario Canada is testing for free as he is doing a research piece on diagnosing. Hope this has been of help. :~)
