Don't worry, the truth is coming out about China in torrents. One example, in June this year the US Indo-Pacific Commander Samuel Paparo threatened China with "Hellscape" if it attacks Taiwan. Just a few months later, after observing China's "rehearsals" around Taiwan and the latest showcase of military wares at the Zhuhai Airshow, his tone loses much of his hubris as he spoke to the Brookings Institution a few days ago. American Professor Steve Hsu's most recent Monifol Podcast "Letter from Shanghai: Reflection on China in 2024" should disabuse any delusion that China is NOT the most important factor in the world for the next few decades.
China's "rehearsals" are only a rational response to the Evil War-Mongering U.S. World Military Dictatorship's continuous threats to world peace. U.S. WARships: get the hell out of China, go home. The U.S. World Military Dictatorship has more than SEVEN HUNDRED military bases in foreign countries, though most experts count closer to one THOUSAND. And that's the BIGGEST threat to world peace in human history.
@@danutavram831 This is another piece of Western propaganda. The territorial waters that the mainland PRC lays claim to are the exact same territorial waters that the Republic of China (Taiwan) has laid claim to and been recognized by America and the Western powers since before the Chinese Civil War and the Communist rise to power in 1949. Funny how that little tidbit always gets left out, and how the US is fine with Taiwan's territorial claims, but not with Communist China's. There's a lot of hypocrisy that is latent in Western media bias, most of centering on the fact they prefer to support dependent powers that they sponsored decades before during Colonialism.

Call out CCP publicly and see what happens. Glad that you are enjoying your stay but if you don't see any authoritarianism then you've been keeping safe. There is a reason why young Chinese are protesting in innovative codified ways (blank paper, switching out Hanzi in sentences, etc.). There are also hundreds of millions living in poverty so the country is FAR from perfect. The country is not cheap for the people making Chinese salaries. The advanced technology you see in the world-famous cities is a very small minority of China.
@@Harveyinchina First-hand knowledge, no. Chinese friends, yes. Also, Googling helps. Harvey, there are more and more of your people from the U.K. as well as from the U.S. moving over to places like China where governments are governing FOR the people rather than oligarchs and war mongers. For countries like China that seek real peace and harmony, establishing mutual respects between peoples and working hard to make life worth living in peace, we welcome people such as yourself who seek the same values in community relationship rather than selfish narcissistic individualism that better suited for an uninhabited isolated island in the middle of nowhere.

Having lived 14 years in Singapore - which is NOT part of or in China, although many westerners think it is - i can see many similarities between the two countries. To add, one reason why these places have a vibrant night-time economy is because of the weather - seriously. Certainly in Singapore all year round, and in most parts of China for much of the year, you can be comfortable outside eating at 9 or 10pm. In the UK, for six months of the year, it’s dark by 5pm and too wet or cold to be away from home for most people on most evenings. Second, “freedom” and “free speech” is such a bogus benefit. Unlike China, Singapore is a true democracy but it also has very strict laws which are enforced very strictly so, for example, street protests are not allowed - not once did I ever hear a local complain about this, and most look on in horror when they see the protests in the west. People are more than happy to trade in a bit of their “freedom” for having a strong economy, safe streets and a wholesome lifestyle. (PS -also, neither China nor Singapore allow ANY form of illegal immigration. Just saying.).
You are a very intelligent young man who refuses to let your media fool you about China, honestly don’t make any comments about China if you never been here, it is just embarrassing and ignorant! Left UK last year after living in there for 10 years and returned back to China, best decision I have made !

I lived in Shenzhen between 2010 - 2014 and at the time compared to Hong Kong and Bangkok I really didn’t like it as even though i was earning great money teaching English there wasn’t much to do and daily life wasn’t convenient. Fast forward to 2024 I can’t believe how much it’s changed and hands down beats Bangkok especially in terms of transportation, cleanliness, modern buildings, safety. Bangkok has a lot of history which beats Shenzhen but I found it’s still got a lot of old run down buildings and don’t feel the vibe is as good as it was in the past. I haven’t been to Hong Kong yet so can’t compare.

Hi Harvey, great video, hitting the nail on the head. We are from England are have arranged to come to China for 3 weeks. Can't wait, just need to decide where to go and what to do. My view on China has changed, having opened up to the notion that all is not what it seems and having done some research.
As a Chinese person studying in the UK, the best advice I can give you is to find a Chinese friend to get help, otherwise you may not understand many things in China according to the British way of life. Even add a social media for international students.
Lived the best 10 years of my life as a Mandarin speaking western laowai and thankful for that experience . However, I can safely say I don’t miss China and the idiosyncrasies of doing anything there anymore. Have a brilliant experience and hope you have an amazing time!
Hi Harvey, it is nice to listen to your English that hasn't got much accent which I called filtered English. That sounded like the English spoken in Dublin, Ireland. You didn't have that London accent (East end or West end) or the Westminster accents like those of the PM's such as Sunak, Keir Starmer, or Theresa May or even King's English. What do you think?
Been living here since 2018 - best decision i have ever made. i didn't visit home (England) for 4 years due to the pandemic, however, i returned to a dystopia.
Labelling the whole UK with the same sticker as London is wrong. If you can get on in China then good luck but make sure you do a return video on the way back as to why you are leaving
I'm not from London, I'm from Manchester actually living in the south east and I can attest to his opinions. The UK is going down hill faster than you can blink and it's not going to stop. Even if you were Apolitical, our cities are dying, our economy is dying, our lack of investments are crippling us. So yeah I understand how he feels, most fellow Brits feel the same.
@ I’m from Yorkshire and I personally do not see your point. We have a poor government in power right now and we are flooded with illegal migrants however Yorkshire has had investment to improve it. Sheffield and Barnsley have had nearly a billion pounds invested between them in just one year.
A couple can ballroom dance at a clean and safe river walk, would that be the greatest true freedom? Freedom is not to yell out your lung knowing people don't give a shxt.
Having travelled in China extensively since 1977 I can vouch for what you say. It is not whether or not the UK is going down it more a case of how fast will it sink completely.
I am curious. Since everyone knows that there are some practices in China, it is very convenient. Why do n’t other countries learn? Is it funding or technical issues or do you think that Chinese things are not worth learning?
Just watched your video, you are 100% correct, the UK is finished, you are young and free to do what you want with your life, if you wake up in the morning and are not happy in the country you live in do something about it before it’s too late. Life is short and the world is a big place.
How old are you mate?. You just spent that whole piece whining about the decline of society in the UK without realising that you had a role in building, shaping and making that society. You are a very, very good example of the new, entitled, generation and its seeming belief that, if you stamp your feet, you can demand everything presented to you on a plate!. If things aren't to your liking the idea is to make things better....if you have the skills....for the benefit of all. You contribute you dont just take what others build. That you dont understand that, and think that autocratic lack of rights is a good thing as it cuts down on political dispute!!??, is absolute proof that we do have problems in our education system though. Far from being an escapee from our declining culture you are a perfect example of the problem we have in our younger generations...that of highly opinionated ignorance. That said your girlfriend seems very pretty and, at your age, I was ready to drop everything and run to another country to impress girls too. I'm sure this video pleased her and her friends massively. I think you may look back on this one day though and wonder how impressively naive you were but I'm sure thats a lifetime away from your perspective now. Good luck in China.
Unfortunately I've only lived in Asia for two years (Malaysia) but your video certainly resonates. So sad to see the relative decline of the UK. I think 99% of Brits have no idea how far behind we are in the UK.
Nice video. I returned home to London in 2019 after living in Beijing for a few years. For me it was a bit overwhelming and I was ready to leave tbh. I think I will stay in London for the forseaable future but I'm still open to moving back to China. I think objectively London as a base beats anywhere in China if money doesn't matter. But it is incredibly expensive and the real question is whether or not you get good value for money. I don't think London is worth it unless you're a high earner and one thing that does annoy me which you highlighted is how early everywhere shuts down. At least in China if you work hard, long hours, you can still get things done at the end of the day like get a haircut and go to the gym and hang out past 12
@@daveinchina yeah, I feel as a society we're more morning orientated, but it would be nice to have more shops open in the evening, especially for all those working late in the evenings. Also, I liked how in china you could grab a beer virtually anywhere anytime. Personally, I'm not sure how I feel about pubs shutting at midnight in the UK. On the one hand I guess it's a reasonable time to head home, but on the other I feel it's created a culture where ppl supercharge their drinking because you've only got several hours to do all your drinking for the whole night!
Hes not ccp propagandist. But people are not aware of the problems in the UK. But there also lies about China as well. Yes you cannot speak up against xi but you must understand that the quality of life is just better., whats thrre to complain about? Yes there is crime in China. Knife stabbing is there. But if we compare the amount of crime in the UK. Its certainly safer
No one in China cares about Xi Jinping, Xi Jinping is just a man, he has power, but it's not up to him to decide how to run a country well. Every region has power groups in every region, there is no way for the central government to manage everyone. In fact, the average person in most regions expects the centre to govern more than the local government.
I lived there from 2010 - 2022, loved it, had a great time, until they locked me in my house in Shanghai in 2022 without food, while people were dragged away to covid camps. That taught me it's no place to live anymore. Check out Shanghai 2022 covid to see some of the horrors which could happen.
Can you say the same for smaller cities or towns in China? Take the night life for instance. I'm positive that in a smaller less densely populated city or town in China the night life and amenities available at night are not so great. I don't doubt that the quality of life in the UK and UK infrastructure is deteriorating, but emigrating to another country doesn't fix it.
Do you not need like $70K invested in China every year for 3 or 4 years to be able to live there as a foreigner ? otherwise max stay VISA is 10 years and its hard to get ?
Says it all that you're posting this clip on youtube which is banned in China and can only be accessed (illegally) through a VPN. Let's cut to the chase, China has good things about it, fast trains (Although the tech was stolen from German and Japanese companies), amazing food (although lots of it is average and poor, but some dishes are mind blowing like hui guo rou, hong shao rou, lan zhou la mian etc. sorry no Chinese input on this PC), the people are generally ok but their attitude towards foreigners has gone down in the last ten years. Great travel opportunities to outside of China [can be in Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, Japan within a few hours) and cheap cost of living. Twenty years ago before the banning of everything online from the west, China looked to be heading towards more freedom. That has unfortunately now be culled. Cost of living is still low, but you do not get what you pay for really. If you want true quality imports it costs MORE than in foreign countries. You can get cheap meals and cheap veg but it's made with shit pesticides and chemicals galore. Most Chinese people perform very well academically on rote learning test style, but have nothing to talk about. When you cannot discuss the world or politics and nothing beyond what to eat for dinner or money it gets boring REAL quick (and I'm a fluent Chinese speaker). Unfortunately the freedoms we enjoy in the west, ability to criticise the government, proper critical thinking skills, ability to access websites and information, is not in China. You can take the train in China great, but in the UK you simply buy your ticket and travel, in China you have to queue up to show your passport to get a ticket, what the fuck is that about? How about having to register where you live with the police? What the fuck is that about? How about having to register every time you leave and come back to the country? What the fuck is that about? How about arriving and having a single border guard stamping foreigners passports and 30 for locals? And having to queue over three hours? What the fuck is that about? How about companies wanting to make profit so putting chemicals in the milk that killed children? Or second hand oil dug out the gutters, adding chemicals and reusing it? What the fuck is that about? Asia itself is an amazing place to live, but there are far better countries to live in than China. Vietnam and Thailand alone come to mind.
I first went to China (Guangzhou/Canton) in 2001 for a year working and found it an amazing experience. I returned in 2010 and stayed for 5 years and married my Cantonese wife. Much of what you stated I agree with but I returned to broken Britain when I retired in 2015. You failed to mention to your audience that you have to use a VPN to make your TH-cam video as the likes of TH-cam, Facebook and many social media platforms are banned in China. I also have to disagree with your praise of the Chinese health care system, yes it’s fine for minor health care problems but many people cannot afford the insurance premiums if have a serious health event requiring surgery etc. My wife worked as a TCM doctor in a major GZ hospital for many years and one of her friends had to incur a huge debt in order to pay for her mother’s heath care. Having said all of this if I was a fit healthy young man like yourself I also would leave the broken UK to live in Asia. Good luck 🤓👍
That’s fair criticism of my viewpoints Paul, thanks. But for me, the block on western internet sites doesn’t phase me. They didn’t want to comply with Chinese internet regs and thus were blocked, I think that’s fair enough. I think they’re not a net positive for society anyway.

There's a lot of hypocrisy that is latent in Western media bias, most of centering on the fact they prefer to support dependent powers that they sponsored decades before during Colonialism.
Tell me about it man! 8am call to your GP and not able to get appointment until at least 2 weeks later!
In Australia as well. What is the freaking point when you have a cold and flu that needs immediate attention.
Mine was 5 weeks later 🤦♀️
@@johntam9923Now I understood why my Chinese friend flew back to China when he got a flu😅
No, you cannot get a GP appointment by phone. You have to wait for a call to assess if you do need to see a GP. You may just be given some prescription on the phone.
I got an appointment on the same day + prescription 3 months ago. I'm pretty sure if you frame your condition in the context of weakening your university or work performance then they kinda have to internally prioritize you . I am a university student, if that helps.

Chinese governance is 100 times better than the UK, and it shows. Great place, never leaving!
I don't know much about chinese govt, but I am mindful USUK spent extortionate amount on anti china prop but I do know for fact that both USUK are terror sponsors including the ge no side in Gaza, so in that respect even NK has a higher moral standard.
So you're a communist
Call out CCP publicly and see what happens. Glad that you are enjoying your stay but if you don't see any authoritarianism then you've been keeping safe. There is a reason why young Chinese are protesting in innovative codified ways (blank paper, switching out Hanzi in sentences, etc.). There are also hundreds of millions living in poverty so the country is FAR from perfect. The country is not cheap for the people making Chinese salaries. The advanced technology you see in the world-famous cities is a very small minority of China.

You forgot one important word, China is "diligent" you ask for something you get it or get a callback which is incredible with a population of 1.4 billion. Your comparisons on living and traveling in China vs the UK are very true. China is advancing faster than Western countries.

Great video. I left the UK for Asia 6 years ago and won't go back either.
Like you, my lifestyle is not perfect, but far better than the UK

I'm not from London, I'm from Manchester actually living in the south east and I can attest to his opinions. The UK is going down hill faster than you can blink and it's not going to stop. Even if you were Apolitical, our cities are dying, our economy is dying, our lack of investments are crippling us. So yeah I understand how he feels, most fellow Brits feel the same.

its there to put westerners off on purpose....so that nobody ever wants to leave this crap hole..
Even HK is becoming like the UK every day... thats why I'd want to move to Dubai or even mainland China would be a decent plan B.
It actually sad to see how one the greatest countries to ever exist and biggest empire in history has fallen so much.
Just watched your video, you are 100% correct, the UK is finished, you are young and free to do what you want with your life, if you wake up in the morning and are not happy in the country you live in do something about it before it’s too late. Life is short and the world is a big place.
If you can learn the language that will be even better! Ultimately, we are responsible to our own life…
How old are you mate?.
Spot on mate
Unfortunately I've only lived in Asia for two years (Malaysia) but your video certainly resonates. So sad to see the relative decline of the UK. I think 99% of Brits have no idea how far behind we are in the UK.
How accessible is china if you don’t speak or read the native language? I’d love to get out of the uk and live somewhere far away!
The time thing is a cultural difference. The Brits like their early nights
I left the UK for Korea back in 2012. Been with the missus for 12 years, married for 10. Korea is pricey now but still wouldn't live back home.

Totally depends on what you are. Bees fly to flowers, but flies are looking for cesspools. Nothing new here.
Agree with you. I left the uk to go back to China 3 and half months ago. Such a better life here x
Good choice.

In China your stay is only as long as your job and work permit lose your employment you have 14 days to leave the country
