Deep Sea Wreck Fishing - Exploring Huge Shipwrecks way Offshore | The Fish Locker

- Exploring new fishing grounds and finding hidden unfished shipwrecks is always very exciting for me. I love pushing the boundaries and challenging myself. I aren't happy just sitting and doing the same thing over and over. I had been waiting for the right conditions to target these super deep offshore wrecks and today was the day. Very difficult to do but worth the effort!!!
Here are links to some of the tackle that I used in this video. I hope it helps.

As with you hope everything is well
Do you get mackerel all year round John?
Sunday is complete now :) thank you 😊 🙏
@@ShinyArceusOfficial - We get a summer and a winter fishery. Winter is better imo.
who is your camera man?
Boy that video brought back many memories of steaming out at night...go 70 miles offshore and arrive at your fishing spot at first light.
Look at the bottom machine and see your target species under the boat.
Catch 1,000 pounds of them (the commercial limit) and then go catch other species and then head home after 3 days.
Don't worry folks...the fish we caught are extremely sustainable and have been growing..not dwindling in numbers for the last 40 years due to government regulations.
And all fish were caught on rod and reel.
Great video my friend.
Til next time...Cheers.
I love starting my fishing as the new day breaks. It all adds to the excitement doesn’t it. I just love it!!!
Thanks for taking us out John. All the excitement without feeling seasick!!. Stay safe and tight lines. Mike
Win win.
Blown away....the fishing as always brilliant but your knowledge, presenting, explaining, is top notch and for a novice angler like me easy to understand cheers marra 😃👍
As with the rest of our videos. I hope it is the depth of actual knowledge that sets our content aside from others who try to do what we do. I am glad you have found the videos helpful.
Well said sir
Hi John,
At last i have got myself in a hgv job after 18 months of ill health with the prostate. I am loving it even though it's a 60 hour week. I already feel healthier fitter and stronger. I have really pushed the boat out this year to get a job like this and it's working. Hard work seems to be pushing my prostate issues to the side. i,m too busy to even notice the problem. Thanks John,
Stevie in Fife.
I am glad you’re back on the graft mate. Does you good doesn’t it. Stay safe buddy. 💪🏻👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker Thanks so much John given you have so many subscribers. That is really remarkable that you read my comment and replied. Much love to all your family.

@@stevied8855 - I do my best to reply every time, sadly though I just can’t get to everyone every time. Stay safe on the road mate. 👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker Thanks so much John. Much fondness to your family. Stevie in Fife x.
@@stevied8855 dear sir I would like to give you a heads up that stinging nettle tea has been shown to be beneficial for prostate you can pick them yourself and make tea or buy tea bags give it a go I use it for hay-fever and helps me a lot I hope it does you
All the best

You are so right about it not getting better than being on the water with the sun coming up. You are so blessed. One of my greatest memories of my father is turning around as we headed out on Lake Erie here in Canada to go pickerel fishing and seeing the smile on his face as the sun was rising. His ball cap turned backward so it did not fly off and his pride showing to be out with his grown daughter who still wanted to fish with him. I miss him !! Your son will blessed with these memories too. Thank you for everything you teach. I love learning about the different species of fish, fishing methods , conservation and your respect for wildlife. I look forward to all your videos!
Now those moments are what make the best memories. 💙
The beauty of watching your videos is the level of enthusiasm you convey especially spotting the boar fish floating and taking the time to catch it to show us! 👍👍
I love it. Being outdoors, seeing the fish, pushing myself and sharing what we know. All of it. I just love it. 💙
@@TheFishLocker John - without getting into location specifics, how long in your experience, does it generally take a new wreck to become productive for the type of fishing you prefer, months, years, etc.? I'm making assumptions that a wreck has to lay in position long enough to acquire marine growth to attract the smaller bait type fish, which in turn gathers the larger predators.
Hello again and greetings from Kenmare in County Kerry, south west Ireland. Just touching base to say that I'm still enjoying the best, most informative fishing videos online.Keep up the great job and tight lines.
Kerry is a cracking place to fish 👍
@@davidosullivan6351 I'm in Kenmare, so you generally have to travel down the bay a fair bit to get into anything worthwhile. But it's a great spot to get out in the boat.
We visited the hook peninsular a few years back and had a lovely time. Stunning beaches. 😊
There's something about your videos that just keep me goin' you know? Especially during hard times
Nice video
Loved watching Johns video’s last year, especially when I was laid up with Covid for 9 weeks they kept me going.
We have put a lot of ourselves into this channel and our videos because we truly felt and hoped that they may help folks out in some way. Even if it was just to provide a positive distraction during difficult times. If the videos have helped anyone, then I feel they have been worth making. 💙
I started watching these for writing research. I still do, but they are just so dang relaxing, plus I've seen so many of these videos that it feels like I'm watching a friend's videos.
British record for a poor cod.... What I like about your vids is that you're always cheerful, always optimistic and there are no other distractions around...just a great fisherman!
I just love what I do. 😊
I'm just glad you show all sides of fishing. It's not all sunshine and rainbows, and you don't hide the disappointments to give people unrealistic expectations. Nice catch on that Ling!
This channel has always and will always be built around the honesty. Simple, honest and original content. I won’t be anything else. 😊
Always a pleasure watching your videos. You not only look like Stevie G, but you are also just as hard! You carried on fishing after those nasty cuts. Hats off to you mate.
I'm glad you're enjoying watching the videos mate. Take care and stay safe. 😊👍🏻
One minute into the show and I gave you a thumbs up. I love your attitude and the useful information you put out! Being from mid USA and 74 I will never get the pleasure of fishing off the UK shores. Thank you for taking us along.
It is my pleasure, I am simply sharing my passion for fishing and the ocean. 😊 Take care sir and have a wonderful day.
It's Sunday evening, pls pls pls be a fish locker episode and there it is, great end to the weekend
Every Sunday without fail!!! 👍🏻🎣
@@TheFishLocker for me and I suppose many others it's just waiting on your favourite TV program coming on. You forget then something triggers and it's boom there it is
Really enjoyed that , kept it real it's not all sunshine and roses sometimes you put the hard yards in for little return! Nice ling though to soften the blow . Needed my fish locker fix , not been out for over a month, full time working on the van , which by the way I've followed your route doing individual panels for access later ! Thanks for the vid John
That’s life mate. Some trips are easy, some trips are hard work. This one was hard work. Soon be summer time and we’ll be enjoying the sun in shorts and t-shirts. 😉👍🏻
been watching probably year n a half now and still look forward to every video. thanks john.
I am glad to hear that. 😊👍🏻
Always gets your heart pumping when you keep loosing what you know is a big one. Great show as always.
So many emotions when that happens Haha.
With all that,s going on in the world today you are in the wright place doing what you like doing sea fishing Being out at sea your mind is on what you are doing and nothing else Good on you mr fish locker ha ha paul
I learned a while back that watching the news and paying attention to anything that I cannot see with my own eyes does you no good. Keep things simple, take pleasure in the small things in life.
Good to see your enthusiasm, again, where most of us would have packed up. The excitement over the boarfish got me giggling as I could relate to a similar situation when I've seen something new come out of the water, here or abroad. Regardless of size. Nice one John, not the ideal outcome but a great experience and it's exactly that sort of experience that makes me keep going back for more. 👍
Not every session can be a “fish hauling” one. But I was out there, I had fun and I learned some new wrecks and how better to fish them. 😊👍🏻
Definatly found it interesting, not every day is a success, which is why fishing is fishing.
Exactly that Derek. Not every one can be a winner. 👍🏻😉
Well I 'take my hat off' to you John for venturing out that far on your own to fish the big wreck. You continue to amaze with your knowledge of how to approach your fishing & I am sure your advice & knowledge will be used by other fishermen, experienced or 'learners'. Thanks for sharing yet another great video. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
I just hope the videos help folks out Don. 😉👍🏻
There is no better way to start the day you are living the dream and we are so happy you share it all with us. Another great video
One of my favourite things about making these videos is that I get to share these wonderful days at sea with you all. 😊
Tea in a favourite mug: ✅ Chocolate biscuits at the ready: ✅ Half an hour peace and quiet: ✅ Time to fire up The Fish Locker. Great video as ever. (Probably)
Haha. Nice little morning routine. 😉👍🏻
Well John, a daring trip at distance solo. You certainly have to know your capabilities, especially anchoring up at those depths, but you took it all in your stride. You are certainly capable and understand the sea which shows in your confidence. All in all, a great watch and very educational. Tight lines pal.
I hope that transfers across in the videos. Slowly build your skill set and learn your boats and your own capabilities and limitations. 😉👍🏻
Even the mighty fishlocker can miss a bit ! Conditions looked tough ! Good to know your only human. Great video John. Good to see you after those monsters again. “Christ on a bike” was my favourite.
Haha. Fishing out at this distance and depth in those conditions I don’t see this as being a failure. Just a learning experience. I know there’s some big fish down there, I will be back for them!!! 🤣🎣
John you must feel proud when you see all the nice things people write ✍.. always a joy to watch
It pleases me deeply that we are able to create a positive, well wishing and like minded community. On the flip side over the last 3 years we have experienced some horrendous jealousy attacks, online abuse, trolling and venom like I hope no one ever has to experience.
@@TheFishLocker the majority appreciate the effort and can see the genuine guy you are mate 👍
Tough day, John, nice ling though. You'll have to go back in better conditions to winkle out that wily old conger.
Thanks for the video, always a good watch.
If it was easy everyone would do it mate. I know where it lives. 😉
Can’t wait to see you go back and nail what ever fish you had on ,👍🏻👍🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 brilliant video as always .
I know where he lives!!! 😠💪🏻
@@TheFishLocker can’t wait till you touch for him 🤞🏻lol
I really enjoyed this trip thank you for taking us with you. I must say I was a little worried now far you went but reminded myself you had posted this video therefore must have made it back ok !!!!
😉 Fair logic Marion. 😛
I love this. Never know whats coming, Watch all the time xx thank you xx
That’s part of what I love about fishing also. You never can tell you’ll see next. 🤣
Another nice one, I was at Stithians over the Christmas, had thoughts about looking you up but you were going nowhere in that weather. AIS so useful, I cross occasionally from Nice to Corsica, Elba etc, busy bit of water, compliments Radar especially at night, nice to know the coastguard can watch you also with ident etc. Keep em coming, thanks.
It certainly comes into its own at night or in fog. 👍🏻
You have so much knowledge. Thank you for sharing how wreck fishing happens and how the fish act and how smart some of them are.
We have a ling on the table and some other fishes for food or bait for this episode. It's great to watch and I'm working on my filleting technique at home. I'm a little less scared of fish now (still scared for some species, but Ling aren't scary now), but watching the boat, the anchor information from your crab pot videos, and how you act smartly with the weather, it's is very nice to see one thinks through and how valuable these skills are.
Thanks again Uncle John. Take care, stay safe. Be warm. This was a nice episode, I think, got to study how the tides and wind treat boats. Got to study the clouds above you to look at where they move.
Thank you for sharing your time with us. I really do appreciate the time you spend teaching.
I am really pleased to see that the videos are proving helpful and informative for you. I cover everything that I consider and that you should need to do what I do in the videos. I might not cover it in every one. But if you watch enough of them it will be in there somewhere. 😉👍🏻🎣
Love the videos!! Really love when you have the family foraging and the father in-law cooking! Between your amazing catches and his amazing cooking, I’m constantly hungry for seafood!! Cheers!
Those are some of our favourite ones too. 💙
New year's eve I suffered a massive heart attac and have been off my feet ever since.
Don't know yet if I will get back outside again, but rewatching your exploits fishing and foraging are helping keep
me sane, cheers for show and good luck.
Just concentrate on getting rest and getting better mate. Plenty of time to get out on the shore. 💙
Great Video, ❤️ seeing the Dolphins riding the bow. Great shots of the Boar Fish, school day for me, I never knew of that species 🤝
Every day is a school day. 😊👍🏻
From Africa! Really enjoyed watching you do the same things as I do in a different ocean and with different fish! I fish often in 40 to 50 meters of water. THAT was enough for me! 100 m plus is pretty amazing. We use half kilogram weights to get down. But your careful planning of tides and current taught me something important.
You have captured it perfectly. If tried to fish these wrecks on strong tides it would be nearly impossible. I would need at least 1kg of lead if not more. On small tides I fish at anchor, when the tides are running I fish on the drift. 😉🎣
Love your up loads John. A watched the tuna one that was pure class what a day you had.
Haha. That was a very special day at sea. 😉👍🏻
What nice happy guy. Great smile, good attitude, good on ya brother.
I am a positive person simply sharing what I love doing. Have a great day and stay safe. 😊👍🏻
Good trip John, educational to regarding the fog and how careful you have to be, shame about the conger but the ling makes up for it, thanks for showing everyone the trip I really enjoyed it.👍🏻
Yes you really need to be on the ball when it’s foggy. I was frustrated about the conger but that’s fishing isn’t it. 🤷🏻♂️🎣
I don't have to be an angler to appreciate the beauty and peace you get out at sea, and those porpoises looked like they were having a blast sporting about in your wake and racing your boat! 😊 And another lovely ling to bring home to Spargo, too!
Those dolphins are definitely enjoying playing with the boat aren’t they. 😊💙
Another great video JL, big conger will come when you least expect it ,the joy of fishing.
They are sneaky like that aren’t they. 😉
Another great video john you're knowledge off the sea is brilliant
I am just sharing what I love doing Pat. 😊👍🏻
Great to see you back out J, tight lines 👍
Thanks mate.
First for me were the Boarfish, Never seen one before, what a colourful little fish, then one huge Ling for the table, Spargo's kitchen I hope! Brilliant session, shame the weather turned. Thanks for posting hope your poor cod was at least classed as a specimen fish.
Those Boarfish are special aren’t they. I’m annoyed the weather kicked up as that big eel was asking to be caught, the conditions were just too bad.
Great to see your vids mate! Cheers from a swedish fan!
Thank you very much. 😊👍🏻
Tough session John, hope you think as I do... nicer problems to have 😉. Super vid as ever. Cracking table Ling (banquet table) shame you/we never got to see the conger. Tight lines 🎣
It is what it is mate. Not every session is an easy one. 🤷🏻♂️🎣👍🏻
Another excellent video. Thank you for mixing in technical aspects and entertainment.
I hope the videos help folks out. 😊👍🏻
I’ve got this feeling you enjoy your fishing like I do ,,just waiting for a change in the weather to get out and do a bit on the boat ,like you John if the conditions are good wee go , mackerel are always a good bait especially when fresh and a bonus is when you catch your target fish ,,, anyway getting envious of you now good luck
I don't just enjoy it. I LOVE it!!! 🤣
Great video bud 👍 it looked real bumpy out there !!!
It wasn’t flat calm was it. You take the rough with the smooth at this time of year. 😉👍🏻
Great video , I truly enjoy watching you and you're family , and you have so much information about all the species
I am glad you enjoy the videos Ray. 😊👍🏻
Other then enjoying your videos it’s just as educational and you can’t beat that combo. Cheers sir.
I am glad that you think so. 😊💙
You were up against it from the start, well done for going out so far to try those wrecks. Reel fishing action. Showing all the trials and pitfalls gives free tips to all the other anglers who watch your videos. That is altruism and should be applauded. 👍👍👍👍👍
I just make the videos true to life. The good sessions and he difficult ones. Simple and honest. Take care Hugh and tight lines. 😊
That’s a brilliant video John! The boat looks awesome I am very very excited to see more of your videos on this new boat.
She is a wonderful boat.
Brilliant video as always. Always brightens up my day and makes me want to go out with the rod...thanks🐟🐟
I am glad you enjoy joining me. Get the rod out mate. 👍🏻🎣
Hi John, hello from USA! I just started enjoying your videos, seeing the UK fishing species and fishing grounds compared to us here at the mid Atlantic area. Plus I enjoy a great deal of freshwater fishing and nice hunting here also.
Your seamanship is A+ !!!
Please get a radar set, it will turn night into day and fog into clear skies with a bit of practice in clear weather. I’ll subscribe now and look forward to all of your videos
Thank you very much Norman and welcome to our channel. I love learning about the wildlife and methods in different places. A radar set would be good but I just cannot justify the cost for my size of boat.
I could feel your pain, all that effort, but at least you caught something.Every days a learning day, always next time 🎣🐟
Sometimes things just don’t go your way. It’s all just fishing mate. 😊🤷🏻♂️
Thank you very much again John take care look forward to next video.
Thanks Keith, take care mate. 😊
A perfect example of hard work getting results.
Some days its easy others its hard work. Thats fishing.
that was a really good one, a boar fish! wow! I always hoped one day that i would find a wreck of them, these wrecks would happen around Dymchurch from rare time to rare time, and they would be alive. Just to see that thing of great beauty and rarity would make
more than my day. By repute they take in an aquarium a couple of weeks to feed, but the reward is well...
Loved this video.
I feel the same, to see such a wonderful and rare thing was the days reward enough. 😊
Sunday evening watching your video, what can be better. Not sure about going out that far in your small boat but you know what your doing. Beautiful ling and a conger waiting for your next trip, can’t be bad. Keep safe Mate.
I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think I could do it safely Keith. When it’s time to head home I know it. 😊👍🏻
Enjoyed that mate, its not all about pulling in fish after fish,a lot of its homework. Nice one John, spring is in the air👍🌳🌿🍄🐟
That is exactly it Michael. Lots of legwork goes into the really good trips. 👍🏻
Thanks for another great video. When I finally save up for my own boat I'll have all the tips I need 👍 hope you get a bit better weather next trip
Good luck for the new boat Andy. 😉👍🏻
Another fantastic episode John. Really interesting watching how you set yourself up over the Wreck using your new bit tech onboard. Cracking Ling by the by.
I have always used this technique only now it is easier to show on camera with the new tech. The old setup had smaller more basic screens.
Love it. Fishing , not catching is the fun. Stay safe , days are getting longer !
They sure are, we were just talking about that tonight. 👍🏻

Another great watch John , keep it up 👍

I liked to fish for Conger and I remember Anglers Mail stories of some of the monsters caught when they first started going out to some of the big wrecks. Divers stories too of Conger grown too big to swim out of wrecks! As always enjoyed the video!
I have heard that before. Congers getting inside of a boiler wreckage for example and growing too large to exit it. 🤣
Just love to watch your videos. You have so much skill and knowledge, and you share it with us with so much enthusiasm. I was particularly interested in seeing you haul up that fantastic Ling. I have only been out on a boat a couple of times, and one of the few fish I have caught was a tiny Ling off the North Norfolk coast. I believe we were on a wreck at the time as well. All the best.
I am really glad to hear that you are enjoying the videos Alan, I am simply sharing what I love doing. 😊
They sell ling fillets in some supermarkets in Australia. They are a very tasty fish. If I ever come to the UK, I want to catch myself one of these :) Great video once again John!
Enjoyed the video John, some nice fish and good safety tips, never underestimate the weather particularly at sea.
Glad you enjoyed the video Mark.😊
awsome to see as i currently put a deposit on my first boat today

That was a tough trip, John, in every respect. We've all done that-make a long run to The Promised Land-only to experience mediocre fishing and unexpectedly awful seas. But, as you noted, tomorrow's another day. Best, Chris

Really enjoy your videos lad. Watched in the canteen during my brake and had some lads joining me, had a chat after and though it would be super cool if you would include a box in the corner of the screen what your fishfinder is showing during your fishing session.
Tight lines to all.
It probably would. But not really possible with my tech and solo ability. A lot of folks forget because I make things look simple, but I’m doing all of this completely solo. Any time and attention I give to filming I have to detract from the fishing. 🤷🏻♂️
I like your attitude & determination ,great vid.
Thank you.
Frustrating session John.... But good on you for giving it a go not many days you can get out there... That's fishing...
Very honest video it's not always fish, fish, fish it's bloody hard work some days

I enjoy watching your videos. I've just moved to a little quiet town. There is a loch 15 mins walk from my door and if I go downhill there is a small tidal river so I don't need a permit. I fully intend to check out the Loch tomorrow provided the tail end of these storms have buggered off.
