Santo's regional impact was greater than Rey's global impact. It's like people who think Asuka is the greatest Joshi wrestler. WWE named her after Lioness Asuka for a reason. The Crush Gals were more than just popular wrestlers, they were icons.

They talk about wins, and losses, and feuds, and back stage brawls, and betrayals, and titles, and all kinds of other stuff, as if it’s real, when It’s all scripted, and predetermined, and part of the fiction of the universe they are selling. It’s like saying it’s preposterous that Marvel tried to make a plot point over whether Thor or Hulk was the strongest superhero, when Superman exists.
Of course the WWE are going to make a claim that he’s second only to Rey Mysterio, because that’s the universe they are selling. They are putting over their stars, and treating him like a big deal, because that’s what they want him to be!
That’s marketing. That’s storytelling. That’s selling. Which is why I guess Dave doesn’t get it!
No one cares about el santo anymore
Rey Mysterio is the greatest luchador of all time. Penta is the greatest of his generation. Meltzer is the greatest parasite on the underbelly of the business.
Most well known yes,best? No.
Eddie was a luchador.
Hey y'all, I love that we brought up Psicosis and Juvi. Would Super Crazy be considered a part of that, too? I loved Super Crazy in ECW so much. I know he wasn't as big during the attitude era because of exposure, but he was incredibly over with the ECW crowd.
Cole said many believe Rey is the greatest and many believe Penta is close to Rey…. Meaning it’s not a fact it’s subjective even though Rey is the greatest!
Nope,Eddie was better.
Deftones are amazing 😂
...this is the equvilent of who's the best superhero... its subjective.
Pac is better than biggie bc pac aint say no weird gay shit on the track
El Santo is a cult hero in Mexico. They have statues of him everywhere.
I was at WM22 when Rey won the strap. Highly debated whether that was the moment that shifted gears to the smaller more agile guys in the biz (some say Eddie and Benoit but both were jacked). All I know is 8th grade me was going bananas in the stands. Took my 7yr old nephew to RAW & it was a long ass show for a little kid (4+ hrs with pre show) & although buddy was tired toward the end of the show, you woulda thought it was Christmas morning once Rey’s music hit. Idk the dude Meltzer named that’s above Rey but I know for damn sure whoever he is, he’s not impacting MULTiPLE generations of fans to this day & long after he’s gone.
Imagine two marks seriously disagreeing about the opinion of what a wrestling announcer said about a wrestler. It's their job to put the wrestler over. I guess these two clowns would've argued that Andre wasn't the eight wonder of the world or if Hogan really had 24 inch biceps. Marks have ruined pro wrestling
Disco "I wanna ask you some questions about this, and get your thoughts and see what you think and get your thoughts" Inferno
It was a great debut
When is Brody lees son going to be on the roster full time?
Mil Mascara was the greatest😉and Black Gorman was the ultimate Mexican heel👍🏻
Bring Vampiro occasionally for Penta - he could use someone to interract with
El Dandy will always be the best in my book! Who are you to doubt El Dandy! My mom doubted El Dandy, that made him my favorite back in 1994!
Meltzer's pretty much on AEWs payroll. Meltzer can't get his foot in the door at Titan Tower without security removing him from the premises, so he bats for Tony Conman. He's going to talk crap about WWE.
Rey Mysterio is one of the goats of pro wrestling. Dude was better than most wrestlers when he first started as a kid. Konnan knows what's up. He was there. Rey is top tier.
Rey wasn’t beater than most wrestlers when he was 14.
@frankf684 learn how to spell, please
Santo was more famous but Gory would outwork him. On top of that, without Rey Misterio Jr, Meltzer's favorites wouldn't have the style he loves so much.
I think penta will be a serious merch mover in wwe..
So if Rey was in AEW instead of WWE would Meltzer then be saying he was the greatest ever?
Yes.
No because Eddie was better
How many times does disco say he wants to get konnans take on it
I get it Santo was huge but lets be real primarily in South America and Mexico. There is no greater Luchador on this planet than Rey Mysterio. Speaking truthfully if im choosing a number two its not even Santo or Pentagon. Put some respect on Eddie Guerrero's name.
Santo's regional impact was greater than Rey's global impact. It's like people who think Asuka is the greatest Joshi wrestler. WWE named her after Lioness Asuka for a reason. The Crush Gals were more than just popular wrestlers, they were icons.
@ Regional impact on other Mexicans yes. They birthed great luchadors after that. But little kids all over the globe wear Rey masks not Santos masks. I get what you’re saying but I disagree. Nothing regional can overtake world love
Nobody has had a wwe debut like this in recent memory. Cody was mania but other then Rey or Jericho were close
It really couldn't have gone better than it did.
@@KeepinIt100OFFICIALreally? I figured you would’ve be critical
@@KeepinIt100OFFICIAL as a 47 year old American New Yorker life long wrestling fan since mid 80s I honestly have no connection personally to a guy like penta. That being said seeing his family seeing his in ring reactions even his mostly Spanish promo I literally had chills. I felt what the man was saying . I actually might sound like a real mark but I was almost giddy seeing this super talented dude finally get where he always wanted to be. Makes me anticipate the day he wins gold or when he finally gets his brother to join him. That wasn’t a Mexican moment that was a true human moment. If aew had 1/10th the clue how to produce like wwe we’d possibly have real competition.
@@SlapNutsMaxx Why?
@Daniel-b9i3b it definitely had that old-school vibe to it like from the Monday Night Wars era of "jumping ship".
Time to let the hair go Disco
like Daves fan boy conrad thompson says " cant believe this is real " I just cant comprehend the logic in Meltzer saying Rey was not the best ? im sorry you show rey mysterio all fans will know who he is
Most well known doesn’t mean best.Eddie was better than Rey
With all respect and love, konnan used to be built like a sword swinging barbarian but in his older days he's starting to look like a turtle with no shell
You’re gonna get old too bud.Hes 61 and almost died twice
See folks, if I just listened to Dave, I might parrot what he said, but I also listen to what Konnan has to say, who has a better perspective with his perspectives than pundits in the US. It's fine to have shit you don't agree with from either side, but you need to give people with credibility room to school you. #HumbleMark
Tony's Penta fumble is the probably the biggest since WCW with Jericho.
I’m in Iran right now. 😂😂😂
Corvettes and hot chicks? Best luchadore ever!
Is that jacked up AI image supposed to be Dave Meltzer?
MIIIKE DURBIN YO YO YO LET ME SHILL ON THIS
Content ends at 7:30
but the next time Dave is on the show, after demanding DI be removed, Carlos wont say anything remotely close to this. Keepin it 50 strikes again
Whatever happened to Dragon Lee being 2nd best to Rey...?
It's really impossible to say who is the greatest. Where does Undertaker, Flair, Hogan, Sting, Bruno rank? Even mount rushmores you could ask 400 people and get 400 choices
WWE talked up Penta way too much. He's a great performer, but the debut was underwhelming.
How is Dave's take tone deaf when Konnan literally agrees with Dave's statement. He rips the dude for not choosing Rey, but then proceeds to explain in detail how El Santo was the most popular/over. This was literally best "wrestling skills" vs most over/well known/popular.
Most Over and Famous Luchadore - Konnan and Dave agree it's Santo.
Best luchadore in terms of physically wrestling and skills - Konnan says Rey, Dave never answers that part.
This isn't trying to defend Dave Meltzer. Personally, I'm not a fan of his, but that's simply my opinion. All this Comment is doing is showing how the Title and Konnan calling a person tone deaf when Konnan is agreeing with the person's statement (to a point all dealing with their own translation of the terminology) either means Konnan himself is also tone deaf, or he spoke without thinking first.
