VIDEO INTRODUCTION: On July 31st 2015, the Indian government launched a large-scale road and highways project in India called the #Bharatmala. and when this annoucement was done, a super optimistic picture was painted about how the logistical challenge of India will be fixed, how the congestion in our highways will disappear and how the tier 2 tier 3 cities of India will grow rapidly because of great connectivity!!
and more importantly, in the logistics case study, we saw how logistics is paralysing our growth right?? This is the reason a project like bharatmala was and is still very very crucial for India!! But you know what guys?? You would be shocked to know that, This critical project which was to be completed in 2022 has been delayed for atleasty 6 years to 2028!! and because of this the cost of the project has shot up from Rs 5.35 lakh crore to Rs 10.63 lakh crore which is almost a 100% increase in cost!! You know much increase that is, the increase in cost itself is equivalent to 7 times the profit of #Reliance industries, 19 times the profit of tata industries and our entire defence #budget of 2022. And all this money is being by tax paying citizens like you and me!!!

One thing is undisputed, it is easy to throw stones than to make things work. This holds true for everyone and in all situations.
BJPs ability to throw stones was more, because their time of ruling was limited and in a coalition setup. I call that zero denominator factor.
That is slowly tilting. When performance of Congress is questioned, performance of BJP government will also be questioned.
To keep things simple. Story from 2004-14 will be compared with 2014-24.

Another reason of delays is locals' approach. For example, Mumbai-Goa highway expansion has been delayed for years now due to local politicians/goons nuisance being one of the factors. Bro, factor in delays due to COVID. Factor in increase in costs and strain due to COVID. India had to fight corona virus by running social welfare. I think u really missed this part when there was very little toll collection for a year. And interests were mounting. Nobody accounted for pandemic in 2017 do they. Please include this too. Ganesh you make really great videos. It's a let down to see u miss such a crucial point here. Considering a revenue of 20000 crore a year from tolls. Think about how much we missed. And reason for delays can also be protracted to COVID. U can't go to people's homes to negotiate for land acquisition when there is a global pandemic. Can you? So please take this into account and correct the video.

At right side of my house 2 lane state road is constructed and at left one rail road is in under construction . And my front road is newly renewed. My home now covered by roads from all 4 sides. That’s just funny😂

In Gujarat, a project started to make all the NHs 4 lanes. They started acquiring land around 2012-13 or 13-14, it's still going on. My own house and a piece of land was acquired (house demolished and land acquired) back in Diwali 2019. However, the workers & professionals helped us a lot in relocating. Anyway, due to COVID and all, the road is still in process. They are now building the other side of the road. The process seems to be on hold in monsoon seasons. Then, there's toll plaza literally just 200-300 metres away from my place. Then there are some issue regarding schools that are on the road. They have to build a small underpass wherever the schools are. We run a private school, and we talked with the professional about it, they'll build one. These lags or extra amount of work takes time to complete. Whereas, on Arabian sea belt, we've been hit by cyclones about 2-3 times in past 3 years, that have seem to hold the process too for about 2-3 months. I hope they utilize their time properly to implement a proper disciplined process.

What Nitin Gadkari has achieved is remarkable and I see that effort in my state and neighbouring ones when I drive on smooth highways, reach different cities at 1/3rd of the time...As tax payers, we definitely should ask the Qs, but also appreciate the work that has gone in!! ... we shld also be ready to understand the practical constraints that a project can hit during execution phase and work with them and support them to solve it!.... One of the unavoidable consequence of Pandemic and War, is Inflation... the way it has hit our life, it has hit the Govt too... A project can be taken forward when all the stakeholders are practical, supportive and solution oriented!... A land acquisition is also impacted by local politics! ... everything is NOT on the central govt always! there are numerous negotiations involved with Local Govt, and if they are from different party, expect the turnaround to increase dramatically! ...
BTW, The headlines of this story sounded that the whole highway scene in india was a mess. Thank god, thats not the case because I see otherwise around me... or when I saw Minister Jaishankar's pic in this thumbnail and wondered what was he doing in a highway story but realized, exactly nothing!

In a broad sense there are several aspects which are causing delay.
1)Firstly its the land acquisition which is the biggest hurdle of all.
2)Second its the NGOs, Environmental activist groups etc which create hurdles by filing petitions in court against crucial projects which halt work for years, classic example for this is the Char Dham Highway project.... good part is that recently there was an amendment to the Forest Conservation Act which said that Act wont be applicable against any project which lie within 100 KM to the international borders.... Most of the NGOs which protested against Char Dham Highway were getting funds from China as well which is planning to sabotage several projects in the name of Environment.... Iam not saying that we must not consider environment but EIA study would be carried out before execution of any project and based on that the design phase of any project would start.
    3) Government changes in states result in massive delays... classic example is during MVA rule in Maharashtra which cancelled all approved projects by previous government such political reasons contribute as well.
    4) For most of the projects in case of Highways and railways its the responsibility of State Governments to acquire land so if there would be opposition led government in state then there are chances of not acquiring land. Thats seen in many cases irrespective of governments and parties.
    5) Sometimes while executing the project itself some contractors would go bankrupt which cause delays while calling tenders again and re bidding all these add up to costs.
    6) Last but not the least till now when any project is getting executed just after opening some other project would be proposed over it which involves digging of ground and after digging that project would be delayed... this is a systematic issue.
When any delay occurs in any project because of the above mentioned reasons sometimes tenders would be recalled again, new cost estimations would be provided by contractors which leads to cost overruns apart from this even Steel and Cement prices are on rise... we saw how cement Companies became cartel and increased prices of cement.
Solution for this is Gati Shakti master plan which addresses the core issues right at the planning stage which uses GIS based mapping data... recently railways implemented 12 structural reforms which gives more accurate estimation at the DPR stage itself considering timeline of the projects.

@@rustydel89 yes and I always doubt that the cost estimation which government put for a project when its announced is calculated on that year's cost without considering the inflation of upcoming years which would add up to costs.
And after amendment to Land Acquisition Act in 2013 the compensation amount has been doubled.
And even the utility shifting has its costs for DFC alone it was 12K Crores.
There are several factors like disputed private lands in the alignment.
If there are lands of Political Leaders close to alignment the alignment itself would be changed several times to satisfy their pockets.
Sometimes government changes result in cancellation of old contracts and calling for new bids.
Recently Central government made it mandatory to complete 80% of land acquisition before tendering the construction packages for builders.
Very complex land acquisition process, environmental and political reasons are the core issues which cause delay
China don't have all these because there is no private land owner and their government can do what they want to develop.

    Bullet
    Metro
    Cargo railway
    Delhi-mumbai highway.
    Beside many surat own project.

India is not authoritative regime like China. There is lot of difference. You can make videos easily from convenience of your AC studio. But govt has to plan, do land acquisition and execute the projects.. it’s absolutely not easy in democratic country like India where we have so much diversity and politics

Its because of the local government bodies which are delaying and not giving support to NHAI. May be you could have pointed out that reason and could have questioned the state governments which has not provided support in these projects. Its not only about the central government, state government also should support in these type of projects

There are multiple issue with delay in important infrastructure project.
    1.unstable govt in state
2.non cooperative govt in state, like mahaagari they did not helped to provide land from farmers.
    3.Always election mode
