    VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
    Hello everybody,
    The Adani group is one of the most powerful business houses in the country!! and more importantly, the adani group has been a major contributor to economy country because they have transformed the way Indian ports operate and compete in the international market!! and now the adani’s, the state government of kerela and the central govt together are building something called a Transhipment port in India!! This project is the Vizhinjam por in Kerala and it such a massive project that it costs more than 7,600 Cr, at the same time, it is so revolutionary that once built, this port could single handedly, reducing export costs for Indian traders, it will decrease the time to export our products to the world and most importantly, we could be standing upto the standards of the biggest players in the port business which includes the Singapore port, the colombo port and even the iconic Jabel ali port of Dubai!!
    So as students of business this is one of the most important economic developments that you need to be aware of. So in this episode today, lets do a deep dive into the port industry of India and understand,
    What the heck is a transshipment port?
    Why does India need a transshipment port now ?
    How will it help the traders of India?
    and most importantly, how will impact the economy of India??

    I work in the merchant navy and what you said is correct 💯. All the ports in India which are managed by Adani are super efficient just like china, Europe and the US. That will be a challenge in the Vizinjam port as the bigger ships will have faster turn arounds.
    And all the revenue from the port will go to Adani for 40 years. Kerala will benefit from the jobs created.
    Thank you think school for the wonderful case study as usual 🎉❤❤

    Irrespective of the political stands we have. We need to appreciate what Adani ports is doing for India's hard maritime power strategically across the world( p.s : all the business tycoons need government support in one way or the other to sustain, no one is different. Even the old guard has support from Brits, then Congress and it's the same everywhere across the world).

    Not just for Sivakasi exports but the Vizhinjam port will also be very useful for Tirupur exports. All our shipments now have to be hubbed out of Colombo and so suffer about 10 extra days in transit time and 100s of dollars in transit costs. Not to mention the container shortages.

      This and the proposed transhipment port is the only location in India where a transhipment hub will work commercially. The reason for this is that transhipment hub ports have to be on the main shipping routes because operators of very large container carriers will not deviate from the main shipping routes. Gujarat, Vishaputnam, have deep ports equal to this, but that is mainly for bulk and general cargo, and very large container carriers go there or will ever go there. The reason is very simple - hub ships have to pick up and drop containers off which smaller ships have dropped off or will pick up. They therefore run to a very strict schedule and they will not deviate from the main (shortest) trade route which is from Suez, around India/Sri Lanka and through the Malacca Straights to drop off a few containers in Gujarat or Vishaputnam, or Calcutta as that will cause delay - that is the job of the small spoke container ships. That is why a fast dedicated freight rail link to the rest of India is so important. Transhipment by ship is slow and involves double handling. Linking India's dedicated freight rail link to India's future largest and most important port container port is therefore essential to India's future development as it eliminates double handling and increases speed in reaching the end location compared to transhipment by ship and then transferring containers to the DFRL rail links in North India. In particular the delivery of containers to East and Central India by ship is slow because they need to circumnavigate Sri Lanka and Chinese controlled Columbo port will control the shipping route in this case.

Currently kerala is among the least business friendly states while gujarat is the most business friendly state. Average income per capita is also higher for those states when compared to kerala. If you are transporting some raw materials to build a flat or for your house they will charge you money then only you could unload the material , even if they are not qualified to unload the material they will still ask you the money . Sometimes their charge is greater than the materials cost . That's why no major factories are set up in Kerala . Recently they even asked ISRO for the same somewhere 6L for that .

All these states have so many companies and everyday new companies are coming to other states. Foreign companies also hate kerala due to trade unions. Moreover all these states have much bigger and developed cities than kochi. There was a recent report which clearly mentioned kerala as one of the least bussiness friendly states. Now kerala depends mainly on remmittance from foreign countries and from other states. If you look at the development happened in other states for a few years you will understand, the growth in kerala is now very low whereas the other states are skyrocketing. Ahmedabad had an astonishing in the past few years, currently gujarat tops the list for the most business friendly state. Unfortunately from the statistical point of view kerala has a very bad future due to the lack of industries and investments in kerala. Lastly, all these states can survive on their own but kerala cannot, as it depends heavily on remittance.

    Working on Container Ships for last 20 years, I want to add that the biggest ships which our ports are unable to handle are only bound to Europe from China. Colombo without much exports on its own lies on the major shipping route which intersects the Gulf, South Africa, South America and Western Australia and thats why it benefits being a transhipment hub. While it's mentioned that JNPT can handle only 6500TEU ships but I have been there myself on a 10000TEU while a 14000TEU was berthed. Another thing here is that 14000 is still the max size which any port in US can accept and they don't have ports to accommodate any larger. It is also the max size that the Panama Canal can accept. All major ports in South America, Australia are still lacking the facilities to accept a 14000TEU. All large ships which are above 14000 upto the current max of 24000TEU are largely deployed in China-Europe via the suez canal run and most stop at Colombo due to its location. That is also why Mundra wasn't upgraded but Kerela was chosen. I was in Colombo port two weeks back the the Adani Terminal is also under construction there itself next to CICT. Also want to add that the depth although less is still enough in JNPT and Mundra.

    I just hope work on second Transhipment Port in Galathea Bay starts soon.
    Two Transhipment Terminals one close to East Asia and another close to Middle East, Europe will be ultimate game changer for our trade.
    Apart from that a proper infrastructure is needed for successful operation of this port and reduce the logistics costs of our exports.
    Now as WDFC and EDFC are almost in the end stages of construction the focus should be shifted to construct Southern Dedicated Freight Corridor between Chennai-Bengaluru-Vizhinjam connecting industrial centers like Vellore, Coimbatore, Vellore, Hosur, Mysore, Bidadi, Mangalore, Cochin etc. This will connect Vizhinjam with the major industrial clusters like Electronics, Automobiles, Defence, Marine Products, Ship Building, Steel etc.
    Also East Coast DFC from West Bengal to Chennai via Andhra Pradesh should be built effectively connecting Steel Belt of Odisha to the Automobile industry hubs like Chennai, Bangalore and Kia's Plant in Ananthapur.
    And another Corridor should be connecting Mumbai-Pune-Bengaluru effectively connecting North Hinterland states to Southern Transhipment Ports via DFCs which will enhance the economic development by manifolds.
    And Railways is second cheapest after water transportation and fastest medium of transport on land so this can reduce the logistics cost by a large extent.
    This will likely be an added advantage of having Transhipment Port as well as a DFC network at place will improve the logistics performance and reduce the cost at the same time.
    My opinion is that the capacity enhancement to accomodate increasing trade volume of India holds the key to success of these Transhipment Ports.

      This will be a transhipment hub so Cargo will be shipped from Gujarat and Maharashtra ports to here similarly from Tamilnadu & Kolkata ports to here.
      Moving cargo in ships is cheaper than moving on road & rail

    • @_GMP_
      @_GMP_ 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Sagarmala project is already underway and industries should be connected to the nearest port from there it will be automatically connected to this transhipment port

    • @SaiPraneethMullapudi
      @SaiPraneethMullapudi 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@_GMP_ connecting western ports to Vizhinjam is shorter than Eastern Coast
      The reason I mentioned DFCs is that when a ship from Kolkata wants to reach Vizhinjam then it will go all around the Sri Lanka to reach Vizhinjam so this will increase cost and at the same time Business can be taken away by the Colombo Port
      So a DFC network along the east coast and connected with Southern DFC will help a lot.
      And DFC can result in having more business cycles as the time taken to transport will reduce drastically especially for Electronics, Automobiles Ecommerce and Perishables once Vande Freight Trains are introduced on DFCs which can touch 180 KMPH considering high strength rails and sleepers used for DFC.

    Awesome to hear abt India's first ever transshipment port which can handle big vessels. Indian cargo will be transported directly from here without depending on Colombo and Singapore hubs. Good thing is it is connected to India's mainland getting ready at the right time with exports going to increase YOY due to PLI and other initiatives. Saves lot of money for traders to ship their goods and Sagarmala will connect all ports with top class connectivity. Upcoming Nicobar port will be double bonanza for India.
