For the price of an M5 (not factoring in your 400+ hours of course)you have an amazingly special car. It would be my dream weekend/track day car. It’s a Lotus on steroids basically. Wanted one around 20 years ago as I know them well being from the 🇬🇧 also around that time my neighbour had one of the first and iterations which was much rougher around the edges and with lower engine spec but still amazing. My dad at the time owned a Speed 6 TVR which was beautiful and crazy quick but dynamically not in the same league as the Ultima. It’s the handling and the visceral experience that always appealed to me. A breath of fresh air in a modern world being filled with Tesla’s for sure.
Ultima always has been my absolute dream car, but I didn’t know what engine I’d use. The BMW V10 has not enough power and it is fragile. Very interesting stuff ! The signal cancelling comment in 'snowbird' FL made me laugh out loud !:-) My first ride was a Corvair - sounds like your Ultima has better center of gravity .
I was expecting this to be closer to 2000lbs. My headers are ceramic coated, but still having heat issues with a 800hp 8.2L LS NA build. You're making me consider wrapping on top of the ceramic. The biggest thing is saving my starters which are getting cooked.
@Ultimate Ultima RS My biggest beef with wraps is how they cause corrosion issues on the headers. But, I gotta think the ceramic coating would prevent that AND this car simply doesn't get driven in the rain. They should never get wet. I've got the car apart for the 2023 upgrade season. I guess I'll put it back together with wrapped headers. I was considering building a heat shield for starter, but wraps will save everything from the heat... not just the starter. It would be interesting to get out in an Ultima someday. I've taken this Z06 about as close to racecar as I can get it. I weight about 500 lbs more. How far behind am I, really? I expect I am closer to par on the suspension than you'd think possible. But, 1/6 less weight is huge even at your belt-slipping power levels. If you find your 1000 HP, you'll probably be a high 8 second car.
I've watched most of your videos on this build and was just totally knocked out. I can't even guess what you do for income; but as for me it's so far on the other end of the spectrum it's almost laughable. I'm not complaining mind you, few could possibly have experienced the life I have; but to even see such an anti-thesis actually exist from my POV just seems absolutely astounding. If it were up to me to give you an appropriate title it would be "The Immaculate Mechanic". I think you should have done the engine upgrade video In a James Bond Tux with a John Cleese looking butler to hold all your tools on a silver tray with some Bond like sound-track in the back. I know I must sound jaded; but I'm not really. I'm quite pleased to see that there is at least one individual in the world that can live such an extreme dream. You still twisted my mind with your Hp greed for such a light vehicle though, especially since you elected to keep the DFM system on top of it all; but after all, everything else about it is "cutting edge" so why not? Probably help you get a better ROI at the next Mecum event you take it to after it gets dusty. LOL Seriously though, I'd love to show you my 87' Camaro I've built and driven over the course of the last 20 years. I don't post any TH-cam videos on it because I just built it for me and not to show. Still, I'd love to park mine next to yours at a car show and then watch the reaction of the spectators. It would be the ultimate juxtaposition of more with less and more with more. LOL Let me know if you're ever up around Kissimmee.
Great comment, Joseph and thank you for the kind words! I don't know if I'd ever be in Kissimmee with the car, but if you're ever in South Florida, give me a shout.
Working on adding more power right now and will definitely make a video showing all about it, with street driving too. Thanks for still being interested!
Clutch fork issue sounds like a problem I ran into years ago with an sti I had. There's literally a pin that has to be pulled to separate the trans from the bell housing. Felt like an ass when it took me an hour to figure it out. During a 6 puck install. Makes sense since both are a boxer design
Ceracoat is basically a spray paint as oposed to a ceramic thermal control coating- I would personally consider Jet-Hot or Swain coating over the wrap. Wrap has some disadvantages as far as trapping moisure and creating thermal stresses due to uneven insulation vs. ceramic thermal coatings- I would use it on a vintage car for aesthetics maybe, but OVER a ceramic thermal coating since the latter provides insulation, heat reflection, and corrosion protection. Just spraying Ceracoat on the outside of a set of headers is not much better than leaving them bare. It's great for your hunting rifle or brake calipers, but not headers.
im a bit late to the party but have followed you from the beginning. a couple suggestions. instead of dei wrap (which will in time eat your headers up ) try thermal header shielding. much better heat shielding and wont rust your headers. as for the pcar clutch rod ditch the entire system in favor of a tilton clutch setup. never have to slide the pin in again. if you stay the current setup slide the p/s cap in place and the pin will line up as you slide it in
Try the new slipper clutches I saw on Cleetus Mc's channel...install an industrial electric fan to suck the hot air out the engine bay and out thru a flat panel slit at the back, as opposed to Gordon Murray's T50 round fan exhaust, to use the hot air to iron out the venturi effect and reduce tail drag across the rear of the car
How's it going Gabe? Hope all is well. Thought we'd be getting orange beast content thick and fast by now. There's not a single, structured review of this beauty in existence yet. You could be the first☝
I really enjoyed this build. Might I suggest you save the speed for the track. Your wallet and license will appreciate it. On the track all the vehicles are traveling in the same direction at similar speeds and there are safety crews there instantly if things go south. Here in Ontario Canada the cops will impound for racing and or stunt driving. That entails some flunky hooking your car and dragging it on to a flatbed. Any damage is your problem. I’m not sure if FL has a similar law(s)
Hi/ based on previous video i think that u can have some problem with temperature of air intake? Its so close to very hot exhaust pipe / and separation of theese could be better. Check air temp intake with :)
Guessing the printed part cracked at the layerlines? Nylon is veeeery hard to print and you won't get isotropic behavior because of the FDM process... Furthermore the fibers will arange parallel to the layer lines and won't help with layer adhesion either. I'd suggest looking for a 3d print service that offers SLS printed nylon parts, wich have much less layer effects, or reinforcing the printed part with some resin and fibers on the outside. I'm at the moment developing an intake manifold using a resin printer, which produces more isotropic, smoother, heat resistant parts. Brittleness is an issue though... Thanks for sharing your experience!
Before I installed it, I coated the inside and outside of the part in epoxy and shredded carbon fiber. It looked like a legitimate forged carbon fiber piece when I was done but it must have just cracked under braking or maybe even when I was muscling the transmission in and moving things around. The biggest problem was just that the design was too big and it went too far forward.
Awesome video! Thanks for the update. Sorry about your pupper, but good to see he’s doing well. I love the Corvette? behind y’all doing it’s best to keep up. I can’t wait to see you take it out on the track, and up against other sports carts. How much racing experience do you have? I can’t remember if you’ve said or not.
Thank you Albert! Behind us was a 992 Porsche 911. Definitely couldn't keep up. I don't have any professional racing experience as I've only really driven some decently quick street cars and this is definitely the fastest car I've driven. I am going to get a DD2 kart in the near future though.
1st off Great job and content! My question is. The roof scoop. What does it do? Feed the cabin or is it decorative? Why can't you go to the throttle body from the roof scoop? Cutting through the firewall. Also, the firewall. Can you make it removable so you can work on the front of the motor?
The roof scoop feeds air into the engine compartment. On naturally aspirated cars, a lot of owners have configured the scoop to feed the air intake of the engine, but on my setup, it isn't feasible. Also, you can do a lot of things to the front of the engine with it installed, though it's pretty tight. You can definitely change belts and all pulleys except for the main harmonic balancer.
Neat car, quality build! You said it was somewhat loud inside....can you hear the suspension heim ends clunking? I had a GT500 with a Griggs track day suspension, the interior was quiet, but you could hear all of the front and rear heim ends working and they transmitted various levels of vibration....the car handled superbly, but it was kind of annoying to drive.
No the suspension isn't noisy at all and mine doesn't have the optional heim suspension- in fact they don't even offer it on the RS for probably that reason.
@@UltimateUltimaRS Well of course not.....silly me....I have also been following a Superlite SL-C build and I had a senior moment, temporarily confusing the two suspensions. Old age is not our friend.....so sorry, carry on! :-)
In an earlier video you showed a brake vacuum pump. Did you ever try to fit it? I am taking delivery of my kit next month & am keen to fit one. Love your build.
Hey Allan, I never fitted it, but I know another owner who did and he loves it. The only downside is that if you need to change the battery or access anything in that area, the booster makes it very difficult and things need to be disassembled. I can tell you that with the Tilton pedal setup, brake effort required is definitely more than a regular road car, but the feedback and braking are awesome.
Hey James, I should have something coming up, but just waiting on some parts from Ultima. Thanks for staying in the loop. The car has been awesome and a true race car for the street. Also, thanks for the comment about my pups. Sadly, my boy Lincoln crossed over in October which still has me absolutely gutted.
Seeing an Ultima on DragTimes would be amazing. Finally real world comparison with other fast cars.
It should keep up with a Plaid (and beat it with the 1000hp) if he can get the power down.
We talked through direct message a bit yesterday- we'll see if I can set something up! I'm trying for sure!

Thank you, Rob. A PDK or the Tremec from the C8 Corvette would be amazing. If there's a way to do, I may go that route.
Very interesting stuff ! The signal cancelling comment in 'snowbird' FL made me laugh out loud !:-) My first ride was a Corvair - sounds like your Ultima has better center of gravity .
The snowbirds and retirees are the worst! :)
I was expecting this to be closer to 2000lbs.
My headers are ceramic coated, but still having heat issues with a 800hp 8.2L LS NA build. You're making me consider wrapping on top of the ceramic. The biggest thing is saving my starters which are getting cooked.
The wrap was a complete game changer. Huge huge reduction in temps for sure.
Hey you can calculate from the white markers start to finish how fast you were going. Those are marked specifically apart.🏁👊💯
Wish quick recovery for the dog and nice work bro
Great bud dude, hope the doggos are all good.
Love your channel and your work.
Thank you man.
We need more videos man where you at?
Working on adding more power right now and will definitely make a video showing all about it, with street driving too. Thanks for still being interested!
Awesome. So good to find your channel.. subbed!
Header wrap looks killer.
Very nice good looking car and orange fit it perfectly , I like it !
Can’t wait to see you at the track
We need more of the Ultima videos...this is beast 😎
I sure wait to see your videos. Super cool.
Sweet machine!! The header wrap is my fav, looks tough!! I’m assuming the rest of the bay is clean so I like the contrast. Color is awesome too 👍
Clutch fork issue sounds like a problem I ran into years ago with an sti I had. There's literally a pin that has to be pulled to separate the trans from the bell housing. Felt like an ass when it took me an hour to figure it out. During a 6 puck install. Makes sense since both are a boxer design
Yeah just seems completely unnecessary because you can put push style clutches on them with zero issue.
I was waiting for this video.
Mad to think, theoretically, you could possibly run towed farm equipment with that half u-joint on the back of the transaxle.
I remember years ago seeing an Ultima GTR in a car show with the nitrous bottle in a side cubby. It is probaly the coolest obtainable sports car.
That sounds like a good idea!
Love the dogs looking at pics of themselves.
You can hook up your farm equipment, auger etc to the rear of the transmission!
im a bit late to the party but have followed you from the beginning. a couple suggestions. instead of dei wrap (which will in time eat your headers up ) try thermal header shielding. much better heat shielding and wont rust your headers. as for the pcar clutch rod ditch the entire system in favor of a tilton clutch setup. never have to slide the pin in again. if you stay the current setup slide the p/s cap in place and the pin will line up as you slide it in
Definitely some great suggestions. Thank you!
The header wrap looks great, in my opinion.
I believe you, I have a sportbike..and small cars with more than 300hp sometimes I have a problem catching up to.
Hope your joking
Great video! Love the content.
Those slipper clutches are awesome but more for drag racing. The carbon clutch I have is perfect for road course stuff.
I'd suggest adding a couple of 12V DC fans under your clam to ventilate the compartment to the outside.
How's it going Gabe? Hope all is well.
Thought we'd be getting orange beast content thick and fast by now. There's not a single, structured review of this beauty in existence yet. You could be the first☝
Very soon!
If you are still struggling with under hood temps check out Swain Tech white lightning exhaust coating
The gas station clip made my day!! Nice. 😊
Best RS ever, great job
Hi/ based on previous video i think that u can have some problem with temperature of air intake? Its so close to very hot exhaust pipe / and separation of theese could be better. Check air temp intake with :)
Bro when will be new video uploaded 🚀
Loved the build 💪💪👍
Make a vent that opens up when your car is stopped to release the engine heat without cooking your wiring?
An Update! just what i needed! Also FIRST
The wrap looks good cause you did it right
1st off Great job and content!
@@UltimateUltimaRS next stop, This vs That!!!
Love to see some track footage.
This beast is a beauty!!!!!!!!!
Curious for an update video. Hope you’ve been enjoying the car and I hope the dogs are well.
