My father had a brand new Eagle International cab over back in 79 and had it for 7 years. I took hundreds of trips with him and our feet were never cold in it. The only time it felt cold, we were in ND delivering cattle one winter night and the temps dropped that night to almost 30 below. No diesel likes the cold especially sitting and idling, so we had the idle up and the winter front on the grille all night.
It’s amazing that there was so many of these on the road back in the day. Nowadays rare. Always a Tough looking truck. Would not look the same without those badass horns on top. Like a Pete with no visor. Makes a big difference. 👍
So glad you have save this one and its little brother. So many of these have been scrapped or are hauling containers in Mexico or Central/South America. It looks amazing.
Dad had one of those with a ten or twelve foot drom and a forty two foot Wilson cattle trailer. Seems to me it was red with an orange stripe. It road pretty smooth I remember that. Think ours might have had a cat in it though with a thirteen speed. That was the first truck I ever really took out onto the pavement. I know I wasn't out of grade school yet. But that's how I learned to drive. Little out of the way places with little to no traffic around us. And believe me I got an ear full. Don't lug the fucking truck. Your to close to the edge of the road. I don't give a shit they'll move over. Oh boy those were the days. My dad has since passed away many years ago and I often wonder what he would think of the world we live in today. Sure do miss him.
Great looking Transtar! I lived in a '78 for most of the early 80's as my home. Covered all 48 and Canada. Thanx for the memories!! btw...you say you're restoring a similar 'Slab cab'...what's that?? Is that a day cab?? Not familiar with this term?
Watch closely, it is an International during the hijack, but during the explosion it changes brands. My dad thought it became an LTL9000 Ford when we watched the movie back in the day.
Is that the original cab on that Transtar 2? Cause I don't remember seeing an 84in cab instead of the normal 88in in 1980. I can see it has the 4 handle bars and indent around the sleeper vent where as the newer 88in cabs had no indent and only 3 handles. But either way it's a beautiful truck!
Question for you, where these trucks ever called Flat Nose trucks or am I mistaken. Not in anyway am I a trucker I just enjoy playing American Truck Simulator.
i drove a 79 transtar for 5 years for a company they had a 1980 eagle with the 400 big cam it had brown leather interior it was wore down thoough company ran it hard it was tan exterior color with stripes us
Hi from Australia,,,I have two 4070A Transtars,,the Cab's need a lot of work,,would any one know how much I would expect to pay for a second hand Cab from someone in the states???
Big problem is converting it to right hand drive --- the engine tunnels were I believe made in Australia. I had two brand new tunnels years ago - plus several cubic metres of bits and pieces such as wiring looms glass instruments and such but ended up sending it all to the tip -- no one was interested in rebuilding Transtars in those days. They looked nice when new but were cold in winter hot in summer and very cramped to drive. I owned and drove mine for 10 years and I think I can say I hated every minute of it.
I doubt it, the way he did that restoration, looks like a no expense spared. Restoration. So the cab was probably stripped down to bare metal, insulated heavily with quality insulation, sound deadening material, good quality carpet. & good expensive aftermarket heaters. That truck is probably warmer than many trucks made in the last 25 years, besides the brand new ones. When you do a restoration right. It makes a difference.
Not to denigrate the man's efforts (love the way he speaks, btw), but I just don't get the fascination with old trucks, especially when they are certified crap designs like this Transtars. I drove one very early in my career, and realized what I had been missing when I transferred into a 362 Pete.

Sweet truck!! the best part for me was the KW shirt representing international lol
I remember The Terminator hijacked a truck like this in 1984. "Get Out" 🤣
That's one lean clean road machine.

Great old truck!!
A beauty for sure David.
What was the largest cabover semi interior ever made?

It is beautiful, it's just pristine, you'd swear the thing just rolled out of the factory! Dave
Beauty🚛👍. I don't see many cabover semis around anymore like I used to back in the day. Do they still make them?
Not for the North American market. Dave
That's a dream truck.
Beautiful work. And very nice old truck. You'all done well :-)
Nice truck! How much does the truck weigh?

these trucks are called cabovers
or COE : CAB over engine .

They were and are Cab Over COE Cab Over Engine like the COE4070 Never Flat nose that I ever heard . there was a Bull nose Cab over ....
Why the hell would he want a cab over for. I'm saying as a every day driver. In a collection you drive once a year I can see.
Would have been nice to see the truck.
