good show, I drove a 1978 cornpicker transtar 2 for 2 years 290 cummins 10 spd, AC worked. ran it back and forth from indianapolis to west coast runnin a reefer... 62 pegged to the floor on flat road.....good memories , no cell phones, beepers, less dumbasses on the road, and I never saw a pair of flip flops at the fuel island.

I still think the "Corn Binder" Trans Stars were the best styled of all of the cabovers. Timeless styling that still looks good today.

The Trans Star IH cabovers are the best looking cabovers ever made, IMHO. I think of The TERMINATOR every time I see one. I'd say the Peterbilt 352 is the second best looking cabover big rig.

Well this day had to come....On my last haul with my 99 9800 flat floor cabover. We've been together a long time and to retire from the road together was always the plan. We'll miss the fun but not the BS. Stay safe all,..keep that diesel truckin' me and old Red are SE bound and down.

The Sightliner is clearly an A Line pickup cab perched over a tractor unit - IH was quite economical with cabins...that A Line cab became a Dodge / IH shared conventional design in Australia based on existing architecture unique to this country. The smaller COE from 1965 had a Bedford TK based cab. The Transtar conventional from the late 1970s used the ACCO cab (Australia, 1972-2018) adapted from COE. That cab was also widened, and then used on Australian T and S Lines. You're welcome! 😊

seems most peoples first truck was an International. My first truck was a 9700 set back, Detroit DD4, Eaton 13 speed C model, SSHD 397 diff on Hendrickson leafs.
Turned it into a great dump, 33 tons all day. Sold it to a girl who was getting her first truck and she absolutely loves it. She does bauxite all day with no issues except the occasional tire issue due to not having 4 way lockers but apart from that great truck.

The 9800I didn't sell well here in Australia, drivers were a lot happier with the previous ACCO (Australian Constructed Cab Over) models instead, so much so that Navistar reintroduced them in the mid to late 2000's to try to gain back the market share they had in the 80's and early 90's.

I've never got to drive an emeryville. my transtar II had an 8v92tta Detroit diesel with a 10 speed road ranger trans and 34,000 reyco suspension. but no power steering, wow what a pain in the well you know.i also had an 8v71 1973 GMC astro with a 13over and 433 rears, no baffles in stacks!!

Out of the many that you covered, I said this is one I know something about...... out the ten lessons that you instructed on us on, I knew parts of two but not the whole answer.!!! I am amassed by the information and I know that you cherry pick that as its only information if we really are curious about the stuff we could learn. I never really retained much as I am very sick and tired both from a kidney disease. I am seventy three and darned if I won't get to see some of the rigs that you have shown here in hill billy car heaven. I hope they have a Studebaker coach works when I get there. I ain't on the tip over list case I may scare you... I been a cigarette smoker for almost sixty years and have got a few bruises on the trip to the scrap yard in car heaven where the cars don't have dents and the oil stays in the engine. I knew about the four windshield international and must say that it caused quite the rumors. Some were funny but many were very hurtful by those who couldn't afford to buy a truck so no truck ever got a pass. A great video Maddie

3:10 the truck from Real Steel movie with Hugh Jackman. in 1968 International Built the Turbostar cab over using a Solar Turbines 300 Hp Gas turbine as the driving unit and a 4070 as the truck frame. The 34,000 Rpm engine was able to haul fully loaded triple trailers at highway speed. After testing this unit for two years the concept though much touted and advertised the Turbostat was cancelled due to the high fuel usage the gas turbine required. International sold the Solar division to Caterpillar in 1982 for 350 million dollars. Today Solar has the most industrial gas turbines produced in the world today with a yearly Annual revenue of 2.0 Billion dollars.

My first job after truck driving school in 1976 was to drive a Transstar Cabover from Plymouth (Minneapolis) MN to the east coast between Boston and Baltimore. I had turned twenty one years old just a few days before leaving on the first run on the 4th of July. The job was a team with a co- driver. One driving and one sleeping. Sleeping was pretty much impossible. The ride was terrible and the design of the sleeper meant that your head would touch one end and your feet the other. The truck's interior would also shake apart with the headliner falling down after the screws backed out. I think the nick name that was most befitting was Transstar trash cans.
