    It was the pilot bearing although the transmission makes tons of bearing noise too. Make sure your new pilot bearing has rubber seals and not metal shields, it seemed like all the grease spun out of the metal shielded one. It wasn't even that old.

      Hi there. What you describe as "the other noise" around 0:25 went away after you changed the pilot bearing?

      I have about 1k miles on my Flyin Miata Happy Meals Clutch Kit- and I'm having this exact same issue. I just finished installing the FM S1 Turbo kit too. I'm hating life right now. Feel like I should've just left it all alone.... Thanks for your video.

      Sorry to hear that. I have been in there a few times since I went forced induction. Last time I just bought the most expensive bearing I could find. I think they are 6022RS but I am not sure.

      Glad i found this video. I thought it was TO bearings at first but it didn't make sense since when clutch is engage, sound goes away. Thank for for solidifying what is most likely the Pilot bearing issue.

      I have this issue right now how did you fix this?

    The pilot bearing is in the center of the flywheel.... The throw out bearing is on the end of the long metal clutch Fork that pivots when you push the clutch pedal in and out.

    It’s most likely the throw out bearing or Input shaft bearing, you’d hear a pilot bearing chatter when the clutch it is disengage

      It was definitely the pilot bearing. Changed it out years ago for a nice one with rubber seals and haven't heard that sound since.

      This is an old video, it was the pilot bearing.

    I'm just learning how to drive manual, apparently I was riding the clutch and ebay clutch kits aren't the most forgiving... learned the hard way, didnt even last 200 miles ...

      Well hopefully you didn't get injured when it failed. I run a Flyin' Miata level 2, and I know friends who are happy with Super Miata clutches.

      @@sonofthehill1320 So it wasn't the clutches fault, I was doing an auto to manual swap and forgot to move a piece of the manual transmission and that's what caused my clutch failure.

      Interesting, sounds like you figured it out. Hopefully it will last a while this time.

    having similar sounds, putting in a new kit but worried the whining and scraping sounds with the clutch out is the input shaft bearing. hoping its just the pilot like in your case.

    Mine makes al the same little sounds and squeaks between gears or while coming to a stop in second I suspected the pilot bearing also

    mannnnn......i have the same annoying sound....I was on the factory oem clutch and pilot bearing....i just changed to a flyin miata lvl 1 with everything new....i literally have the god awful squeak.....

    • @sonofthehill1320
      @sonofthehill1320  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no, with everything new? Sorry to hear that. I run the level 2 bearings as they are a bit beefier. I do change my pilot bearing when I am in there (far too often.) Last time I think I just bought the most expensive bearing of that type with rubber seals that I could find. I don't recall the bearing number off hand.

      @@sonofthehill1320 its ok...imma just deal with it.

      Just monitor it and make sure it doesn't suddenly start getting worse. I know it sucks going in there again, but believe me, when we make tons of power we end up in there sometimes.

    Hold it to the floor and let it bounce of rev limiter for 10 min

    Hi is the pilot bearing on the clutch or gearbox transmission which needed replacing? And if so did you have take out the entire gearbox out the car to fit the bearing?

    • @sonofthehill1320
      @sonofthehill1320  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it is inside the bell housing, I had to take the transmission out.
