    I had a very annoying vibration noise after pulling the transmission to install a new clutch. I didn't know anything about aligning the PPF until I started researching what the noise could be. I followed your method and it didn't eliminate the vibration completely but it greatly reduced that noise making it tolerable. Thanks for posting this information!

      My pleasure, try a different set of diff bushings, engine mounts or trans fluid.

    Thanks a ton man. Dropped my diff and ppf to get it welded, didnt check alignment spec or even rly know of one, just threw everything in back to where it was and gave em the ugga dugga. Hopefully this fixes my noise! Was super confused about what it meant, but this helped a lot.

    Did you remove the 3 17mm bolts on the PPF/gearbox and then raised the PPF to spec? Or did you remove the 1 17mm bolt followed by the 2 14mm bolts on the PPF transmission bracket? Most documentation I've seen points to that triangle bracket and not those 3 17mm bolts.

    • @timothyhodge14

      I loosed all 3 17mm bolts and the 2 14mm bolts and then set the height and retorqued everything in place.

    Just bought a miata and getting a grinding around 4.5k rpm and a whirring everywhere else. The previous owner replaced the transmissiom so I'm sure this will solve it. Thank you!

      @@timothyhodge14 yep I changed to ford trans fluid and the grinding noise reduced significantly. I suspect the diff is also contributing to the noise.

    • @timothyhodge14

      Yes, so you need to loosen the front bolts of the ppf and raise the ppf+trans such that it's measures within spec for your Miata.

      @@timothyhodge14 If the transmission is connected only to the ppf don't you have to raise the transmission angle up or down to raise up or lower the ppf ? How do you go about raising up or lowering the transmission to get the ppf at the correct height ?

      Once you loosen the PPF bolts, jack the transmission up to increase the distance in your measurement. Mine was at about 2". I jacked the trans up until I had about 2 5/8", then I tightened the bolts to 80 ft-lbs.

    Doesn't the car being jacked up from the transmission, influence the height of the PPF!?..

    • @timothyhodge14
      @timothyhodge14  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The car itself was on jack stands. I was using my second jack to raise the transmission and ppf so that I could set the alignment to spec. It's extremely difficult doing it all by hand, ie trying to measure, hold up the pff, and tighten the bolts all at the same time.

    • @unified95
      @unified95 ปีที่แล้ว

      so to raise the ppf, you loosen the bolts, then raise the transmission with a jack or somehow and then you tighten the bolts back while the transmission is at the right height? I get a whining noise while letting off the gas, changed the siff fluid and nothing so ill try this before changing the fluid in the tranny, and I just wanna understand how you adjust the height of the ppf

    • @timothyhodge14
      @timothyhodge14  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, loosen the bolts that attach the ppf to the trans and raise the ppf/trans to the proper height and then retighten the jolts and torque to spec. I believe the torque is 72 ft-lbs but double check the forums.
