So cute! I can’t believe you just used a sweater as the pattern! Haha. You could put gussets in the side seams. Long triangles sewn into the side to accommodate your hips.
To help with the problem of the hips not being big enough, a couple of suggestions. You could have cut out a front band and applied it to widen out the the coat, or I would have just created slits on the sides. Cute coat though. Take off one pocket and nobody will know then!
