  • In this video, with the help of two friends, we finally begin raising the trusses on the pole barn. It takes every inch of the pallet fork extension rig on the John Deere 5065 to get them lifted onto place.

I'm building a 40'x48' pole barn by myself and let me tell you, it isn't easy. When I put my steel trusses up, I connected them to my boom pole hooked to my tractor in 2 places, about 4-5 feet apart. That affords more stability and it makes it easier for a one-person operation. The only issue I've run into is with getting the trusses all even and putting the purlins at the right spacing. It's always great to see someone else tackle a pole barn, I have learned a ton from watching videos and kept my mistakes to a minimum. Best of luck to you with all your future projects!

Good tips - I appreciate it! I'm right there with you about using TH-cam to learn - I do it for pretty much every project I work on here at the farm, because every day is the farthest I've ever gone into farming. Thanks for watching!

Somehow this was recommended to me and I glanced through it. I'd suggest installing the horizontal supports for your sidewalls first, if it's not too late. I guarantee you have some sway in those posts. You need to stabilize the wall first, all you have is a post.

You are SPOT ON! I wish we had done it at both the bottom and top of the posts as we put them in to ensure good spacing. Would have been WAY more efficient/effective. One of my friends made the same recommendation...

DUDE!! I had no idea you built that pole barn, chutzpa! One of these days Deb is gonna film an accident (God forbid). Glad Bob saved the day with some scaffolding.

I keep waiting to see a step ladder on the tractor in place of the pallet fork extension...followed by the mandatory safety brief. :)
