In this video, I move the steers and hens to new ground. The "Little Rogue Hen" has returned, but I can't get her into the pen with the big girls. I find a very large spider on my UTV, and after I move her, I notice how many spiders there actually are in the rafters of my barn. I wrap up by finally getting some burn pile work done. #floridafarm #homestead #iolairefarm #steers #pasturedpoultry #...
S5E28 Getting Too Hot Outside!
มุมมอง 335 หลายเดือนก่อน
in this video, I start clearing some more woods, but the temps are pushing into triple digits, so I play it safe. I try out the idea of using smaller pasture areas for the steers to try and get them to graze more thoroughly, one of the hens goes rogue, and the young pullets put on a demo of morning enthusiasm. #floridafarm #homestead #iolairefarm #steers #pasturedpoultry Instagram: @iolairefarm

You always crack me up when you say "BOINK"😂 Nice assessment (service training). Clean up "How do you eat an 🐘 one bite at a time."
I am so glad you and your family are safe
I am glad your ok and safe
I'm just concerned how you doing
Humm? No dog huh?
Instead of a barrier on the outside to keep the birds out of a predator's reach, put it on the inside of the chicken tractor to prevent the birds from getting within the reach of the predator. A flat, 6" border around the inside of any rot proof material should work.
I live just north of Clearwater. Went through Debby with you. Unbelievable amount of rain and rain bands. One issue that I see is that you have the generator right next to the house, the problem is the exhaust fumes will go up into the soffit vents above and could have some nasty effects on your life. 20 feet is the minimum that is required for safe operation, per the manufactures and fire departments. Also, my old generator just finally got tired after 20 years. I started it at least 2 times a year for testing, January and June with a system test, but the main thing that kept the generator running for all those years was that I would only put in a quart of gas in the tank, start the generator, test the system and let the gas tank run dry. No gas to turn into varnish... I also changed the oil every 2 years, just to keep that fresh.
Love this - thank you! Great info for me and everyone who sees it.
Might try putting solar lights motion activated on the chicken tractors as a deterent
Yeah don't say anything else about DEBBIE, if you know you know and WE KNOW. Can you say 🐕🏠 🤭
WOW, that's some FANCY weather proof cover, you need to patent it.🤭
Stay safe in the storm
Love the hat choice! Stay safe from the sun. I can't say that I miss Florida summer.
It’s about dang time! You choose wisely (cowboy style) & therefore shall live & no longer burn your ears off!
STOP I'm laughing so hard I had to stop the video to catch my breath .... go with the Minnie Pearl one🤣
Ooppss my bad, is that because I was busting on your hat in a previous video, I'm so bad😥
Yours was but one voice of many!🤣
Periodically we have Red Tail Hawks in our yard (we live on 1/2acre heavily wooded) they love attacking the 9 squirrels that live here, they fly in a group of 2-3.
Oh NO your son is doing DAD JOKES😱
He's a victim of his environment!😂
Hey GINGER, "Who's YA DADDY!"
Side note: When you change out hats can we have an OFFICIAL hat burning video🤣
😂
what kind of spider is that??
She is a Golden Orb Weaver, commonly known as a “Banana Spider.” The females are the big ones; the males don’t get more than about a half inch. Their webs can be anywhere from 3-6 feet in diameter. I’ve typically seen them out in the woods, but this year they’ve decided that the barn will do nicely! Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
"Doing the ole man thing." I'm happy I've made it to be able to do the ole man thing😂
2x4 with nails into the ground. Like a bear slab to keep bears out.
I agree and I think Greg would agree with condensing the herd more compaction on the soil too promote growth.
I do cow calf and finish a few. We take two years to finish and are always replacing. This years feeder price I could only buy two. I definitely don't get ten dollars a pound for freezer beef in NY
Yeah, my acquisition costs were really high. But, first time doing it, and I won't forget the lessons learned. Thanks for watching!
Listening to the Steers I thought I was watching a GREG JUDY video👏
As long as you have grass to feed to them you should keep them and talk to the butcher....cause if they arent busy they might give you a break in pricing to harvest the animal 1 month sooner. Also you could have vet costs which would drive up the final pricing of the beef. But i do think you are paying too much for your animal....you can go to one of the bigger buyers and talk to them and buy a couple animals off them that they purchase a year....might just have to buy him a 50 dollar bottle of booze cause he works for the bigger corporation.
Thanks for sharing. I am looking to do something similar. Do you eat 4 beef cows a year? I am planning on picking up 2 steers, harvesting 1 for myself, and selling the other one. (not sure on the logistics of selling 1 yet) I would raise just 1 if i could, because my fiance and i dont need 2 beef in the freezer, but with the whole herd thing thats why. How many acres are you grazing with 4?
If you sell the fancy steaks, you will reduce your costs so that you get some meat for free cause the supermarket prices right now are too high.
We don't eat 4 per year. I got 4 because I didn't know what my real requirement would be and I didn't know if I was going to try and keep them for a longer time (a protein supply on the hoof) or if I was going to harvest them all and sell the other 3 for profit. As for selling them, I haven't figured that out. My wife is way better at that than I am and she isn't afraid to ask for the right price - I'm more of a "let me make you a good deal" kind of guy (and we wouldn't make anything). Joel Salatin talks about selling your product in his books (You Can Farm, Salad Bar Beef, Poultry Profits, etc.), so I probably just need to follow his model. I've got about 19 of my 55 acres fenced, but I really only have about 6 acres of good grass. The rest is still forested, so I supplement with hay. Thanks for watching and commenting!
The thought about adding a younger animal as you process (small farm) sounds legit, perhaps adding a sheep as a companion if you're not ready for another steer could help or if you family is into horses a single horse(rescue horse or mule) might work.🤔
That's a good thought. I've considered sheep, and I've been watching "The Shepherdess." She's very knowledgeable and paints a positive picture of sheep as a pasture alternate to cows. Greg Judy does as well. Thanks!
@@ramseyfamilyramblings I've heard of her she is very knowledgeable on sheep and who knows you might like🐑 for 🍽🤗
Thanks for the "Lessons learned" segment.
I come from an accounting background I LOVE the NUMBERS very helpful👍
Most farmers do alot more numbers, cause land costs also need to be factored in....he is paying taxes on the land and then transportation costs to and from. The little stuff can add up to be 500 dollars and can make or break if something is worth it.
You're getting more and more organized as you go.🙌
Mark are you going to wait until all your steers are off to "Freezer Camp" to buy any more or look for a replacement as each leave the farm?
Good question. Ideally I was hoping to get into a rotation: one to the processor, buy a replacement. However, I'm not sure if this beef is right for us or if it will even be good, so I'm waiting to make that call until we get a chance to try it out.
@@ramseyfamilyramblings sensible.
💩🩳 THAT'S not a good look😂
Have you heard of chicken tractors? See Hidden Heights Farm. It makes it easier to move chickens around.
Thanks for the video Same problem on a 145, now I’m ready to get started 👍
Watch that CowGirl working those steers🙌
"These guys will never defend the Republic" 🤣
In this EPISODE a CAT tries to get close to Mark so it can steal his WALLET!
FYI... taking a 'pair' of cattle into a trailer is often much easier, and it is MUCH easier to sort the unwanted one back OUT, thereby leaving the one you want in the trailer. My Grandpa taught me this after watching me spend 20min trying to load a single cow into a trailer. We loaded 3 and easily sorted 2 back.
That's a solid input. We SORT OF did that, but it wasn't quite intentional. Thanks for watching!
Have you checked you hydraulic fluid level on your tractor?
You bet. Turns out there were several solenoid valves frozen up and a broken wire as well. I've only had the tractor for 3 years and it's only got 300 hours on it, so I think it must be either a manufacturing issue or an installation issue. Either way, it wasn't covered under warranty, which was a bummer. Thanks for watching!
I think I would run a electric wire around the lower portion of the chicken tractor. I have seen other youtubers do it to keep the varmits away.
That's a solid fix. John Suscovich does that with his, and it works for him.
Mark you need more cows I didn't see a drop of sweat on that move 😰
😂 those darn cats!
Where's Bill Murray when you need him?
Awww man! CLIFFHANGER! I hate cliffhangers!! What happened to the gopher? Is he dead? Is he alive to dig another hole another day?! We need part two!!
Dude, a bucket of water poured into the hole always worked for me, without fail.........
I should give that a shot! Thanks!
@@ramseyfamilyramblings I will admit tho, I lived out in the country and the gophers were on my neighbor friends property but they weren't really creating any problem. Being kids, we used the buckets of water just to flush them out then caught them in the buckets for kicks then we let them go............Gophers are a problem for you so this method should work great. Please leave a feed back to me if you try it.........
In this episode we go "GOPHER 🎣fishing" with Mark😂
"You are ripe ma dude!" stop hate'n on the poor guy🤣
WOW that gate looks so majestic for a FARMER (j/k) it looks GREAT! Mom looks like she's having fun.
Evan from Country View Acres found out REAL QUICK about scheduling his Steers and Pigs.
