  • Building a shed on a friend's farm. This took us a month and a half working one day per week. The dimensions are 20x30.

    Some information.
    Trusses, metal, screws, ridge cap came from Jackson Metal Roofing Supply in Forsyth, Ga. About 40 miles from building site. Howard has worked for me for 15+ years. He is like family. He starts chemo AND radiation late next week, so pray for him. When Howard knew he was going to be out some, he recommended Larry, who has turned out to be another good’un. Richard works for my brother on his cattle farm and we borrowed him for a few days. Howard started helping Wes on off days a few years back. A little background: Wes’s grandmother taught me in high school 60 years ago. Our families have interacted for at least that many years. I believe this is the 4th video Wes has done on our place. Two on Felling and Milling Pines, building a Homestead Shelter, and this one. Yes, the metal screws had washers. Yes, we are going to put diagonal bracing on the building next week.
    Wes can pin this if he sees fit.

    It looks great!! Back in 2014 my husband was building a Gazebo in my back yard. Our daughter wanted to be married under it. In the middle of it all he had to have surgery on his left thumb joint to stabilize the joint thanks to R.A. The next day he was back to building that gazebo, hand in cast and all. You remind me of him. He always built anything needed around here, was willing to do anything for our friends. Just rarely asked for help. Don't do that please, ask for it when you need it.

    Really enjoyed the video. Sure was good to see Howard again and nice to meet Larry and Richard. Looks like Howard knew what this job was going to entail so he brought reinforcements. He figured he was going to need all the help he could get to keep you in line 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣. Stay safe, GOD BLESS and see ya on the next one.

    Hat's off to Howard, Larry, and Richard again, tell 'em Ron says, "Hi." They're handier than a 2-pocket shirt. That was an incredible video. Thanks so much for creating it. Hope your finger heals quickly.

    Few TH-camrs are conscientious enough to show respect for the sound track and music that (usually) enhances their channel. I checked out Gabriel Lewis' music thanks to your calling attention to this fine artist. Methodical melody leading up to a great conclusion. And a great shed too!

    A tip from a boy scout. In building several outdoor shelters,, think roof, trusses, shingles supported by 6X6s,,, Not unlike your structure at all. I just build them with no walls. Ya wanna make them extremely stable? Spread the legs. If the exact truss length is 24',, and the exact building top plate length is 50 feet Then position the base of your 6X6 columns each one or two inches wider in both length and width. An inch in increase will have the column bases exactly 24'2" X 50' 2" A two inch out of plumb will increase the spread of the bottom to 24' 4" X 50' 4" The increase in stability in a wind is startling. A one inch out of plumb is undetectable. A two inch out of plumb can only be seen by a well trained eye in a 9 or 10 foot to top of plate tall structure.

    When you are pulling the sheets of steel up onto the roof, clamp a pair of vise grips to the end. That gives you a good grip and is safer.

    I liked the hoist you was using to raise the trusses. Not sketchy at all if well secured to the trailer. Roofs do get hot cause it's closer to the sun. Maybe it's God's reminder of what can happen if you don't act right!

    • @falllineridge
      @falllineridge  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was a good hoist, we had it strapped down good, no problem at all. I only know of one man who acted good enough to avoid that kind of heat, Jack. It wasn't me. But I know Him. John 3:16.

    Great video and full of detail someone might need for tackling the project. Only comment (corrective in nature) would be the screw placement. The screws should not be out in the middle of each 12" section but about an inch left of each rib. This way the last screw on each panel is very close to the seam and helps prevent it from lifting in high winds. Also the top and bottom edges should have double screws as that is where the lift starts.... Just a little more durable in high winds and the way you see it commercially. Thanks for the great video...

    Nice building. I enjoyed watching all the hard work. I was concerned about safety in the work area. Glad no one was hurt. The other thing I noticed was the location of screws holding the sheet metal down. Screws should be put on top of the ridge not on the flat area. I hope the roof does not leak, lots of hard work.

But, when you got up on top without a safety harness you worried me a bit because that's a looooooong way down if you slip, and slips happen to the best of us from time to time.
