- Disappointed With The Sony a6700 But Still Getting It
In this video, we're sharing our thoughts about the Sony a6700 camera but still deciding whether or not to buy it.
Despite being disappointed with the Sony a6700, we're still considering buying it because of its many positive features. If you're also considering buying this camera, then please watch this video to learn more about our thoughts!
Good video and good points about the A6700 that I've... got now. It came yesterday and I was just testing it in a livestream scenario. Note that I've updated the firmware directly - the latest is 1.01. So that's done.
I'm not impressed with around 35 mins of operation through HDMI out to an Atem Mini Pro. I ran the camera on USB-C power and I also have a dummy battery from my A7III ready.
Later on, the A6700 will mostly run into a CamLink capture card.. I did, however, push it to the limits with enabling the Auto Framing, which is an essential function I was looking forward to. I'm doing livestreams and giving workshops within guitar playing (acoustic blues, slide guitar...) and the Auto Framing would be great to use when showcasing products, doing studio tours, behind the scene stuff etc..
The Auto Framing works smoothly and there are several different settings to choose from, I do like it in general - but I'd need it to run for at least an hour.
Another thing I noticed, I cannot use 4K to send through HDMI, only if I choose 1080. I'm using my old A6400 for my headshot when livestreaming and it can go for hours and hours, in 4K out of the HDMI. There was a special setting I needed to fix and I wrote it down somewhere, will check if it applies to the A6700.
But right now, I see the only solution in continuing using the A6400 and having the A6700 connected (to the Atem Mini) but not on, ready to use when the Auto Framing is needed. Then I could quickly put it on, switch the chanel on the Atem, and do the showcasing for 10-20 mins.
Thank God for other nice functions on the camera, because if I was depending on the livestreaming + Auto Framing, I'd be returning it immediatelly.
OK, I'll do much more testing in the days to come so who knows what that'll bring. Cheers!
Awesome. I picked up the Ulanzi fan and it worked amazingly
@@thesonyaps-cuser Yeah, I've heard about it.. will check. The price is a whopping $39 on Ulanzi's website and the shipping is on top of it. Shame that this is needed in the first place..
For me, I was underwhelmed by this A6700 APS-C release from Sony. My A6500 back in 2017 could do 11fps (albeit not with the much improved AF-C performance from this A6700 and its new AI processor). So why in 2023 cant Sony match the 20fps, 30fps, and even 40fps in electronic shutter and 15fps in mechanical shutter of a few models of other brands' APS-C mirrorless cameras ? And why only 1/4000 sec. top shutter speed in the A6700, when other brands' APS-C mirrorless can do 1/8000, 1/16000 and even 1/32000 sec shutter speeds?
A single card slot and a micro HDMI port in the A6700 would be deal-breakers for me now. Yes I did accept the single card slot in my former A6500, but after having dual card slots in my fullframe Sonys and having that redundancy, I would never go back to a single card slot camera for what I shoot in both stills and video.
Maybe Sony is protecting their fullframe mirrorless line, but I was hoping for a better showing from a supposed high-end APS-C. I felt Sony APS-C users deserved better. We all know Sony can do better, it does in its leading fullframe lineup .
This A6700 may be exactly the right upgrade for many A6000 users around the world, like you. I have no doubt the A6700 will take excellent quality images. I have seen many already from testers/reviewers . However I will take a pass on this one from Sony. FYI, I have owned Sony A6500, A7RII, A7RIII, A7III, A9 and currently own Sony A1, A7RIV, A7SIII.
Use what works for you and be happy.
Cheers and best to you
Good points. Agree with you about the dual card slots; it’s not a feature that places any technical demands on the design or would do much to increase cost.
I'm glad to hear another person appreciating the flip up screen. I know the common complaint is that the mount covers the screen, but it's still possible to make it work. I'm split between a6700 and ZV-E1. I primarily do video so the photo capability of the a6700 isn't that useful to me, but being in the APS-C ecosystem keeps the cost lower.
Thats a tough choice, I get it. The a6700 and the zV-E1 are pretty much mirror camera as for as specs minus the full frame censor. However, if you got the money and willing to start building your full frame glass library then certainly get the ZV-E1 but I'm mainly a video shooter who controls his lighting so going full frame isn't really for me... Yet! 😀
Thanks for the video! I love A6700. Except overheating, It would be a perfect APS-C camera at this price point. It could capture pretty sharp shots and beautiful colors of image.
Thanks for the review, I enjoyed listening to your opinion. Like you, I will be getting the A6700 primarily for the 4k60fps and 10 bit recording. It's definitely worth upgrading for that and the improved autofocus of course.
Great Video! I am leaning toward getting the a6700 but I am torn about the FX30 and possibly the A7Cii even though I'm primarily an APS-C guy. I already own a ZV-E10 that doesn't have an EVF so that was my dilemma with leaning towards the a6700 over the FX30. I am primarily a video shooter also but having a hybrid camera would suit me for years. I don't do any professional work yet but having the cooling fan and 2nd card slot is a game changer. I may just get the a6700 and pull the trigger on the FX30 later. Decisions, decisions...
I bought an X-S20 a day before the A6700 was released and now I'm torn, should I keep it or get the Sony.
The things swaying me to the Sony are no crop in 4k60 / FHD240p (why add a crop Fuji!), much better video AF, catalyst (for some awesome post processing options), weather sealing (at that price, it's nice to have the peace of mind), 4K120p (even with the huge 1.63x crop), higher ISO range (better in low light?), the ISO for SLOG3 Is 800 instead of 1250 on the Fuji FLOG2 (less noisy video?), I'm finding the exact same lenses are 20-30% cheaper in E-mount vs X-mount. Also, the Sony does in body lens corrections for video (I believe Fuji only does this for photos? - I cannot find any info though).
The things swaying me to the Fuji is the open gate 6.2k (great for instagram and TH-cam cropping) - this is a bit of a game changer really! also no overheating in video (in high temperature mode), better IBIS (on paper anyway, I can't find a side by side video test), 4k60 USB webcam (single USB cable for power / external recording with film sims, very cool!), better LCD screen, joystick is super handy, fuji colours and film simulations are awesome to have, some unique great lenses, better firmware updates (Sony are notorious for neglecting cameras after release).
I'm very torn! - Any thoughts? :)
Mannnnnnn, after hearing your breakdown I'm torn too lol. I'd say it depends on your lens investment already. What lenses do you currently have?
@@thesonyaps-cuser quite a few, but if I were to sell them and get the exact same lenses in E-Mount, I would save 30% lol - hassle though.
Lenses like the Viltrox 13mm F1.4, Sigma 16mm F1.4, Tamron 11-20mm F2.8, Sigma 18-50mm F2.8. All available in X-Mount and E-Mount.
@rgaufman Good point. With what you're recording now, and what you project to be recording in 2-3 years, which camera features will suit your needs more?
I was going to pick up a fuji Film XS-20 until i saw IBIS footage. Sony still miles ahead in terms of video, for photos though Fujifilm is on another level
yah i am still sitting on my a6500 and not sure i want to upgrade, the buffer is smaller than my 6500, like 24 shots in the largest mode compaired to my 95 i get. If the R7 had more glass available native like the sigma trio i might have switched to the R7 they have 2 card slots 30 fps electronic 15 mechanical
Would be nicer if it has around 30MP. The Canon M6 Mark II has 32MP, Fuji X-T5 has 40MP...
I agree. The other camera makers seem to be on the trajectory to have a 30mp APS-C camera before Sony makes one.
if u disappoint with sony 6700 then u never satisfy in life
Not necessarily. It's a great camera spec wise, but Sony's competitors are not just catching up but surpassing them in certain areas. I stated that in the video. My disappointment is in Sony allowing the other camera makers to catch up and match them in camera specs. I'm fully satisfied with life, just not with how Sony is allowing others to match them. Got to compartmentalize life my friend.
please lower your audio treble.
I posted this and I cringed... I didn't edit the audio with my headphones this time... I will definitely lower the treble next time
Absolutely disappointing features
No Dynamic Active Stab (which would have made it the best vlog apsc camera or otherwise)
If screen wasn't good still fine, but why is evf not 3.69 million dots
Why no two card slots? A little extra weight wasnt going to be a problem. Its only 493 grams. If it was 520 grams none would have noticed.
