Yup. And it was actually a localization of another game series:Puyo Puyo, the puzzle spinoff of Madou Monogatari RPG series made by Compile, who would ironically be acquired by Sega and curiously progressed more than other IP's of this company.
fun fact: the strategy you described is called frog-stacking, due to a character in the series that Mean bean Machine is based off of. with bad RNG, that tactic can be deadly, especially for newer players. best strategy is to attack fast rather than build up a longer and harder hit.
@@boopsdoops or if you want to be extra cocky about it you can do what i like to call an overkill combo (basically the hardest thing to do in the game, most likely requires very good rng but you basically build up until there is practically only 1 space left for something to go, and then you have to hope that it hits and causes a massive chain reaction that flips the situation a full 180) i myself have never been able to do it myself, but i've seen other people do it, i call it an "overkill combo" because even after your opponent loses there's still alot of the orange/red refugee beans above their side, so basically even if they could break back out of it (which is impossible cause they rain down far too fast) there would still be many more stacks barreling down at them

Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Avalanche is actually the same Puyo Puyo engine, just different characters. But yes, it's Puyo Puyo except with Sonic villain characters.
I got a Sega with a bunch of games in it for Christmas one year and I looked on the back of the box and It looked like this luckily it wasn’t like this. I would of been so mad. Like you can’t do this to the original dr robotnik and expect real fans not to know the difference.
I got to finally discover the 8 bit version of dr robotnik's mean bean machine thanks to sonic mega collection plus and I have to say that this game looks absolutely amazing on a console like the sega master system the version that mega collection plus uses is the game gear version but it's particularly similar to this version just has a smaller screen size due to it being the game gear version of it rather then the master system version of it seen here in this video also the lesson mode is also acutally quite fun I played through it a bit and I enjoyed it very much I got stuck on lesson 6 becuase I wasn't sure on how to complete it so I decided to quit and come back to it later it was stumping me and left me slighty confused but with that being said at least this mode gives you passwords like scenario mode does
sorry but i just gotta say it, as someone who grew up playing the genesis version of this game, it bugs me to see someone basically purposely mess up their own combos, it's so irritating to watch 😠
Oh gosh kudo’s to the person that had to play this... i would be so bored with this just by looking at the intro, not to mention playing it for 13 stages! What a dull game T_T
@@firegalaxy1370 this specific version of the game feels like it's WAY too slow, with dull versions of the soundtrack from the genesis version, that being said: i don't like puzzle games, but the genesis version of mbm is pretty fun, and the only puzzle game that i actually kinda like
Really fun game and great that Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog got incorporated into this.
If only X-treme wasn’t cancelled, we could have seen SatAM characters in an actual video game…
@@HermaphroGynandro I know. That was really unfortunate, all because of Yuji Naka. 🤦♂
it is, i played it on the genesis emulator on my laptop and watched adventures of sonic the hedgehog on youtube!

They're the same game anyways.
@@mrbarrington2709 yeah but i would argue the mega drive one is more recognised and it uses the music (the danger theme) in the mainia boss fight
Thank you Mega Collection for many memories with this :)

I do not recommend the Game Gear version of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine because the Game Gear version has slow downs in the gameplay.
