This is an excellent project for all involved. At the same time, all parties need to assume responsibilities, the last thing China wanted is being accused setting up a debt trap. Only China wanted to help Africa.... some other countries just talk BS.

Almost..Kenya has afterall 100yrs experience of running a functioning railway. Thus it was the government of Kenyas miscalculation, to sign off a 5yr maintanance and operations deal.
This measure by our government trully shortchanged my people.
However, the Kenya-Sino relations should be encouraged at all costs. The SGR Kenya is trully a well constructed infrustructure with enomouse potential. It is on Kenyans now to draw benefits of this investment for years to come.

Good project but arguably they should have simply upgraded and converted the existing line. The money saved could then have been used on further rail extensions. The big concern is not repayment of the debt but rather the management of the new line. The old line was mismanaged and not maintained properly. Will this new line suffer the same fate?

Those locomotives are type DF11- for passenger transport , DF- 8B -for freight, those locomotives took China a decade to develop and improve with efforts of thousands men and women. Yes they're not electricified locomotive, but you can't build electricified railway when you don't have stable energy supplies can you? But we can proudly say that they're the best of their kind. And the railway only took 3.8 billion dollars, not even 1%of what your claimed. In Britain, build every kilometer high speed railway costs 0.393 billion dollars, that means 472km Mombasa-Nairobi railway could cost up to 185.5 billion dollars, equals almost 3 years of Kenya's GDP. If you want nice things, you gonna have to work harder, no one's gonna just give to you. China has been generous enough.

This narative of blowing your own trumpet will not work in Kenya dear Chinese...for some reason the Chinese think Kenyans are a bunch of unlearned ignorant fools. But we are not and we see this railway project for what it is. A loss making venture out to benefit the chinese movement of goods from point of manufacture under the one belt initiative at the cost of our taxes. You give us a loan and dictate the terms of operation. You do not promote local industries, you come with all the raw materials for building the damn railway. You employ your own to run the railway, you subject Kenyan SGR employees to racism and discrimination and slave like conditions like whipping errant employees. For every day the railway has been in operation you have been stealing from us 1million KES in ticket refunds. You run the damn thing at 1billion a month, translating to 12billion a year then you have the audacity to tell us you made only 1 billion a year. Translating to losses of 11billion to the tax payer, not counting the 360million you steal per year. You think Kenyans are stupid? You think we do not see this? You think we do not know? You think we are happy??? Pay a million Kenyans to sing praises of the SGR like you just did on this video, but on the ground, our feelings as Kenyans have not changed towards the chinese.
