Awesome, SGR Phase 2A is about to be completed!
Standard Gauge Railway built by China Communications Construction Co., Ltd., is an important part of the “Belt and Road” construction, which embodies the sweat and wisdom of the builders of the two sides. Once the SGR Phase 2A (Nairobi to Naivasha section) is completed and opened to traffic, it will speed up the circulation of goods and personnel, promote the economic development of the inland areas of Kenya, and bring opportunities for the people along the way.
At the same time, the completion of SGR Phase 2A will also lay a good foundation for the construction of the second and third phases of the Railway. In the long run, it will be conducive to the construction of the eastern African railway network.

Good project but arguably they should have simply upgraded and converted the existing line. The money saved could then have been used on further rail extensions. The big concern is not repayment of the debt but rather the management of the new line. The old line was mismanaged and not maintained properly. Will this new line suffer the same fate?

If you want to develop, you need to build railways first. Why do some Africans always worry about falling into China's debt trap? China used to borrow money to build roads, but we have a good life now. It's better for China to do business with you than for America to sell you weapons to kill each other.

It is not selfless dedication to Africa that we Chinese help Africa. We want all the people involved to benefit from it, which is a favorite way of thinking in China. We have helped build railways in Africa, and we hope that improvements in transport facilities will raise the level of economic development in the countries of the continent. As the economic level rises, the people become wealthy and have a strong ability to consume, they can do business with more Chinese and create a larger market together. Perhaps at present, the cost of railway construction for many countries in Africa is still relatively expensive, but this is what you must do to achieve development. Chinese people think that a social system with no guarantee of food and clothing, education, health care, life safety, and unilateral emphasis on Western-style democracy is meaningless. More than 100 years ago, China was threatened by western countries with warships and artillery, signed unequal contracts, colonized by Western countries, and invaded by Japanese armed forces. The whole country became a battlefield, and tens of millions of people died of war and disease. When the People's Republic was founded in 1949, the whole country looked like a ruin. The people's food and clothing have not been solved. A large number of illiterates. At that time, no ordinary people would believe that 70 years later China will achieve the rise of the country. So, I think Africa can do the same, as long as unity, as long as efforts, there is no problem can not be solved.

The top five countries in Africa with the largest current Chinese debt, are Angola ($25 billion), Ethiopia ($13.5 billion), Kenya ($7.9 billion), the Republic of Congo ($7.3 billion), and North Sudan ($6.4 billion). Poorer nations are lured by China's offers of cheap loans for transformative infrastructure projects. Then, when these countries are unable to keep up with their repayments, Beijing can demand concessions or other advantages in exchange for debt relief. m.th-cam.com/video/K5XSQGuSUP0/w-d-xo.html

SGR is an excellent project and will serve Kenya well. But some thoughts come to mind and need open discussion. It should also provide an outlet to open sea at Mombasa for landlocked Uganda,Rwanda etc. to realize its full earning potential.Diesel electric produces CO2 emissions. Hydro Electric Power is cleaner and perpectual. Tanzania and Uganda may leap frog technology thru their Electric SGR to tide water in Dar es Salaam. EAR&H worked as a international project. Co operation has its advantages for large scale projects!
