Brother,,, A Infra project is not only about engineering,, it also need to take into consideration Economics, Social impact, environment... the Chinese in the name of low cost have started dumping Substandard infra in African Countries..but billing it at almost the rates a German company would do... this they achieve by giving loans,,, but the repay amount is never revealed.. its the deal they make with local politicians...at the end the common public will end up paying higher ticket rates,, your tax money is used for repayment...for the substandard infra,, and above all you are giving them a free access (transport) to Chinese goods to enter your country..this will in long run crush your local industry...one example ..in this rail project how many Kenyans were employed compared to Chinese labourers .. how many Kenyan company got contracts compared to Chinese...and regarding my question on class1 and 2 sgr .. it was sarcasm, as everything Chinese is substandard and lol they has class differentiation...10 years down the line you will understand the mistake of letting these Chinese in your soil... beware!!!!!

By working toghther with China, in near furture Kenya and Ethiopia will be far richer and far more developed, far more advance than India.
That will be the proof. When Indians see that happen, they should wake up and realised their mistake.
British had fucked up India and she can never wake up ever since.

The railway, which China helped build, hired a large number of local people, which means that a large number of skilled engineers and skilled workers have been trained. This will play an important role in the development of Kenya in the coming decades. Jealous westerners, what do they do in Africa

5:37 First guy that actually knew what he was talking about. Railroads are good when there is a supplier needing to get bulk materials to market. Without that, it's pointless to build. The down side to this is when the railroad is complete, there will be a lot of truck drivers out of jobs resulting in a local economic crash. The bigger players will make money, but unless there is a larger labor demand than what will be replaced, this is going to be bad for local Kenyans in the long run. The big question is how much food and raw materials will China start buying from the interior of Africa after the road is completed?

This is slowest new standard gauge freight/passenger railway in the world! The railroad achieves its good connection times by carrying a high average speed, but its maximum speed is below other railroad roads of similar types around the world. It is not built to be a fast railway, but a prompt railway with excellent long term reliable freight and passenger service.
The railroad also has a vertical alignment that stands substantially higher or lower than the surrounding land. This places the trains out of the normal space people would be in, besides people in this area would be trespassing on railroad real estate. For most animals the railway would seem less of a danger than a busy roadway.
In promotional videos it shows very long bridges where embankments aren't used going through the Park to allow animals and possibly flood waters to pass under. This allows for large animals to pass under the railway.
By going through the Park in a mostly elevated location the passenger train service affectively has a mini safari. This makes up for the slow speed because people come to see the Park even if they've seen it many times before. This entertainment key feature provides customer satisfaction that a steady 120 kph and large windows does so in good fashion. Whereas a new modern passenger railroad line needs to be elevating towards 400 kph speeds to be considered something special.

it's a much larger load (take much more people and freight per day. ) which should remove a lot of bus and trucks from the road (or at least push them to different routes spreading out the traffic. ) the freight aspect especially could be really huge.

why the hell are you spending 3.5 billion$ on 450 kms single track railway which has a maximum speed of 120 kmph? even if it has such long bridges. indian railways which can hit maximum speed of 160 kmph on some routes and 130 to 150 kmph on most of the sections takes 20 to 30 crore rupees per kilometer for at grade and upto 250 crore per km for elevated (thats the maximum it can get), dedicated freight corridor under construction in india cost 35 crore rupees for km ( almost 10 million dollars) and its two lane and electrified capable of transporting freight at a speed of 100 kmph average. it costs 2 billion $ for a 450 kms railway with a double track.
Labour costs are much less in africa or at least on par with india. standard gauge is narrower than broad gauge used in india. Im sorry to say, but the Chinese are ripping you off. so you are basically paying almost 2 to 4 times the actual cost it takes to construct. Dont say the technology is superior, its not. you are not getting a high-speed train. Please make sure your politicians are not spending too much for too little. ethiopeans got a better deal than kenyans. be vigilant

would it still cost 20-30 crore rupees if you need to do it in Africa instead of India though?
Also, we should note that the cost includes train stations and locomotives etc all purchase, where as in India probably the cost is not considering new locomotives since you already have them.

    • @Dragon-gl1rw

You are simply playing a guessing game. Why should Pakistan trade with India when India constantly call Pakistan a terrorist nation? India experience only one terrorist attack and that was in Mumbai. Pakistan have experienced countless attacks by terrorists and yet you Indians said Pakistan support terrorists. It is a fact that India play host to the terrorist leader Dalai Lama. Since you want to talk about corruption, let us start talking about corruptions in your own backyard? Many Indians working in my country said they are sad corruptions in India is everywhere, is it true or false?

What is the difference between Class1 and Class2 SGR??? By the way Kenya must have gone for a double track for the cost you have paid,, Please see the Indians here.. we just get toys from the Chinese. Engineering it should be from Germans , rock solid products at correct price, all our Metro Rails have German technology or Japanese. Kenyans will understand the mistake only after 5 years when the products start to deteriorate at the same speed it was built. One example.. have you ever seen UAE or saudis asking the Chinese to build any strategic infrastructure ,,, nope cause they have money and go for the best quality. I thought Kenya Nigeria are developing on the right path but sorry to say that you are becoming a neo-age colony of China ,, I cant comment any more

Comparing Indian and Chinese railway???? .... what a cruel joke by an Indian.. Indian railway beats china and the rest of the world by number of people died on rail tracks each year.. just Mumbai alone has 3000 deaths every year on railway tracks..and specialized untouchables have to be employed to collect the bodies.. seen Indian rail trains so full of people they are like circus..just sad and pathetic...
Saudi no Chinese rail? Google Saudi light rail..you can't even tell the difference between class I and class II SGR..seen all those elevated tracks on bridges thru national park?.. of course it will cost more.. but worth it for the protection of the park...

Checked again, felt my tone was a bit harsh, sorry for that. The specifications of the project are decided by the Kenyan side, nothing to do with Chinese contractors. Cost/quality, again, google World Bank report, the Chinese contractors are better, at least in Africa, compared with other similar projects in Africa, analyzed by World Bank experts.

    • @RaghunandanReddyC
      @RaghunandanReddyC 7 ปีที่แล้ว

peter wang, people die on Indian railways true, but that doesn't make Chinese railway technology any better, they have good high-speed infrastructure, no one disagrees with that, but are they building you high speed railway? no its just a normal standard gauge railway, Indian railways can hit 160 kmph, with specialised carriages it's been tested at 200 kmph. and we built that infrastructure for less than a quarter of what you are spending on this project.
And about too many people travelling on some trains you have seen are those travelling through heavily populated northern regions, because people in india depend on trains more than chinese. becasue its cheap to travel on rail, and its not going to be the case with the train your govt is constructing now.
It costs 3 to 6 million dollars to construct a double tracked railway that can hit 160 kmph in india at current costs. you govt is spending nearly 8 million on a single track railway that has a maximum operational speed of 120 kmph. Whats the point of having so-called "superior technology" when you get a relatively slower train and you pay 2 times more for a single track against the double track. Thats what british did in india during colonial era, It costed double to build same track in india compared to canada or australia at the same time. So what he said is point on.
Its better to invest in country's infra but spending limited resources on fancy over kills is just point less, i think ethiopia got a better deal than kenya. And its point less to argue technicalities with a person who abuses people for pointing out truth.

You guys think Kenyan government is stupid, hasn't not done their homework or something? Such a major national project must have gone through a long process of evaluation by experts, including third-party ones, usually from some Western consulting firms. Kenyan government has to balance speed for passenger travel and load requirement for freight transport when building the rail. So it's not faster is always better.
By the way, since India is so much superior in rail building and also cares Africa so much, why don't your government just offer a better deal, instead of just badmouthing Kenyan and Chinese here?
