hey been watching ur vids and enjoy what your doing. As a pro myself I tell my customers friends or a helper I may have to remain teachable that's why I watch everything I can. Anyway what I bring that works for me is a cosco folding 4' table from Lowe's or Home Depot. So I'm not bending or on my knees doing mats however they do slide around now this is where remain teachable comes in I am now going to buy a welcome mat to put on the table. I also use the table for cleaning the rubber inserts in cup holders and in the cubbies. It's only one extra thing that folds flat and saves your back as well as can hold quite a few things keeping them dry if the driveway is wet. Thanks again John@Carefree Auto Detailing LongIsland

I have to say that I learned a lot. I had some of that Tide and I have just about all the same tools. The only difference really, is that I had a drill rotary brush instead. You are so right about virtually all of these step and I am thankful for them. I'm just a detailing yard-ape on the weekend and don't make a business out of it but I apply lots of these tips on my own vehicles. I really love watching these videos. Ok! I guess it's because it's more obvious on that video... but what is highly appreciated Soul Reflections... is the fact that you always seem to go that extra little step or mile... in terms of tips or steps to have your customer just get in .. ride and go... after your interventions... no need to wait for drying or else!! That's quite a added valued step! Congrats!

I own a porsche 911, porsche cayman, Lexus SC430 , and chrysler crossfire. I live in Atlanta and have not been satisfied by these so called "detailers" who believe if you wash and wax a car and make it shiny that constitutes a detail. So, I have been following your channel to learn how to care for my cars to a super amateur level. And the knowledge you have imparted has been invaluable.
I followed to a word your video on cleaning a carpet. And everything turned out fine. Except after getting the carpet perfectly clear the way I wanted I used your next to last step and applied gently the tide liquid cold water to get the smell. I dried the liquid with a clean microfiber cloth. But the next morning I saw where the liquid detergent left a brown have on the carpet. I figured because I did not rinse the detergent off. I went back and took cold water and gently and lightly tried to rinse the carpet to remove detergent. I then used a wet/dry vac. But for the life of me I cannot remove all of the liquid detergent out of the carpet. So, that last step of trying to get a good sent messed me up.
Can you please provide suggestions to help me remove the residue left behind from the tide. I cannot seem to rid the suds, even tho slight. Please help and sorry for the long kindness
hmmm..in the video i use steam with a microfiber towel after spraying the tide...did you do that?

no..tide is a water soluble product..have you tried spraying a little all purpose cleaner on carpet and agitate and mop up and the residue from the tide should come up..i know you tried water but try something with a high ph like super clean or simple green...the residue from tide is very easy to remove but adding more water could be an issue at this point
Okay Scott I received your last reply and it make sense to no longer use water to remove the tide because it will do no more than agitate the suds. I will wait awhile and then go back over everything with the diluted super clean as a degreaser as you suggest.

Charlester make sure your not using the “HP” detergent. Those are meant for the front loading machines that use very little water but the detergent is super concentrated. Which you may have to use like 10-20:1 ratio. Hope this helps
You are so right thank you for your video I usually use my steamer and a wet wet and dry vacuum I don't use a carpet extractor there's no need for it

Ok let me just say that I love your videos and will continue to watch however I own a professional Carpet Cleaning business and Auto detail shop myself and I have a truck mount carpet machine for in home carpets and I have had 3 portables for my detail shop. My point is if you are flooding the carpet or upholstery then you are simply not doing it correctly. Yes it will take longer to dry than doing it with a brunch and towel but the problem with that method is you are not rinsing the sticky chemicals out of the carpet which means they will resoil much quicker. I have been cleaning carpet for years and have yet to have one customer complain about me soaking or causing mold or mildew. If you clean with the right pressure and always vacuum where ya spray you are golden. We also use air movers in cars to get them virtually dry by the time the customer picks the car up.
Yeah I've been cleaning carpets commercially for ten year both wet and dry cleaning processes. You are absolutely right in the fact that he is leaving a lot of detergent and residues behind which in turn will resoil like a mug. I would think his scotch guard would have trouble adhering to the fibers with all that chemical left behind aswell
I agree, I do detailing and would never resort to doing this by hand, I use carpet extraction method.
dear sir, i understand your concerns, about the residue of cleaners staying in the matt.and i am with you....
..but.....as you even noticed i counted somewhere to around 20 sprits of cleaner solution in the matt, and then he tried to remove it with towels and the steamer , i understand that maybe he didnt removed completley....
...BUT using industrial extractor in the same time the extractor would prodused MUCH more cleaner and fluid in the matt, also as you said if you are using extractor you have to wait some hours to dry correct??? if the matt needs to dry doesnt mean that you didnt suck up all the water-cleaner solution with the extractor??? doenst mean that IN the matt remains water WITH cleaner inside, witch dries into the matt?
So you have exactly the same problem with your method as Scott using his method. Both you are leaving cleaner solution to dry INTO the matt......both scotts method and extractors method!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also if you are using extractor on cloth seats how you can tell that you suched all the water-cleaner solution from the foam under the seat????
I am sorry i do not argue with you, i know you are doing it for many years but i am trying to understand........

Scott, great tips! But I sometime use a couple of other tools? Heavy soil carpet I my use a cone shape drill brush & turn it on it side, then the other hack is use my IK foamer instead of spray liquid. My own formula of carpet cleaner and or upholstery, contains Oxyclean, Dawn dish soap & Ammonia Glass cleaner. And yes, I use Tide as well. For carpet smells, I dilute Laundry Softener 50/50 and spray.

I love Scott and have spoken with him personally but I think with a little discipline you can use an extractor with better results in half the time if your not flooding it with solution. I personally use a drill brush with the white "gentle" bristles and my extractor and your able to pull a ton of junk out even after vacuuming multiple times. The key is not the hold that trigger very long and not having the thing right on the fabric, hold it about 10 inches away and lightly coat everything , drill brush, repeat and extract. All the respect in the world for Scott but if you have the funds and are doing this professionally, use the tools you've got.
I used super clean diluted and a brush and did the carpet mats. Then on my slanted driveway I hosed them off thoroughly until there was no more foam. Then with my wet n dry I sucked the water off. Air dried them until dry and put back in the car. Super Clean cleaned the seats too.
New carpet installers cut the carpet outside on the cement. I think they should have put a tarp down first but they didn't. It rained a lot the night before so it was clean.
I did brush off the little nubs on the back of the mats with a brush before I returned the mats to the car just in case anything was not washed off.
I use a long handled BBQ lighter around the edge of floor mats to shrink the frayed threads. Makes them virtually invisible after washing, the mats look new again. You have to move the flame quickly so you don't leave any marks or scorch the thread or carpet. It really works great!
We been using tide and zep purple degreaser works wounders... Ps added dish soap for soapy scrub action
I tested Zep next to McGuire's red almost bout same only thing Zep doesn't get soapy thats were some dish soap comes in

Hey Scott, loved the video! I am fairly new to the detailing game, and my customer wants me to remove dried interior paint from inside his truck. It looks like he just threw it all over the place, on stereo, carpets, window lol. I was wondering if you have any tricks to get that out without detailing it for 5-8 hours!

Dalas I love you work. May I ask how long does a typical vehicle lets say a 4 door sedan take you to do full detail. You certainly like to put in the work and pay close attention to the details which is admirable
Scott, I did not catch that you removed the the Tide solution before the Scott Guard protector, or did you.
I stick the floor mats in the washing machine w/chemical depending on the stain. Then I use Pants Hanger to dry them out. Then I hit them with the Super Sucker Vac which damn near pulls the fiber off the mat...had to joke a bit..LOL. I can attest that there is no better Chemical to clean anything extra dirty than ZEP 550 or 505 concentrate. Use it 50/50 water or loose that skin on your hand. I ran a boat dealership for 20 years. This is the chemical you can buy at Walmart and Hone Depot today....I had to by 55 gallon drums at $550 a barrel in the day. Nothing makes a white wall shine like this juice baby! No mildew or black mold or 1/64" thick layer of trees say can refuse to leave. Try it man. I start with Dish Soap by the way. Then I ramp up the chemical until I find the level I need. No need to take a Carrier when all you need is a tank. Ha. Love your Tide trick too btw. The man who stops learning, is the man who has grown way to old for his own good. Hope this helps and keep on scrubbing. Oh I got a set of brushes for my Cordless Drill...Yes Sir. Must have when your old like me.

for high drama, seems that turning the carpet surface upside down and giving the carpet a few pats over and above a sheet of color material to highlight the showing of remnant debris still trapped in rug materials, especially, prior to doing repeat debris removal steps ?

Serious question guys. People live in climates where it snows from December 1-end of April. They park outside and never clean their cars. The carpet is virtually wet for 4-5 months x 5-10-15 years yet is not full of mold. How is that?

Good video, the only point I'd make is not to assume what your customer wants, explain to them you can extract the mat if they wish but there will be a small dry time, otherwise you can clean by hand but the results may not be as effective. What I usually do is extract / clean mats before I do anything else then they have the entire time to dry while you're performing the car clean.

couldntgivafuk true , I know of a lot of extractors that don't "hide" stains . They clean the carpet like brand new from scuff marks and smudges. And they're way quicker .

What steamer are you using
You are leaving cleaner on this mat which will increase how fast the carpet gets dirty. I'm not sure why you are against an extraction cleaner that vacuums up all the moisture. We are both in Texas and if you leave the car in the sun with the windows open, the carpets will dry way too fast before mold and mildew can build. For non professional cleaners, I can leave my car for a week if need be.
Do you have a video for cleaning carpets seats and so on that has just been neglected stains really bad like 3yrs of kids destroying it?

And one more i was following your detail steps from your website for interior detail and i can see a lot of steps are inclouding steam (dashboards, leather, fabrics) you are using EVERY time the steamer in dashboardse.t.c or if it needs? it is any ...you hate the word.....aggressive the steamer in dashboards? i know you are using low presure steamer...Greatings from Athens Greece
One thing that makes cleaning car carpet really clean is starting with a clean carpet like in this video 😆 you have good tips but next time use a dirty carpet mat or carpet of a car

I'd also add, if they are a big coffee spiller like me. Ha Ha. You need a fire hose and a industrial vac to get that mess out. You can't un-wick it...it soaks to the core....ugggggh.
Can use Resolve Carpet Cleaner to new carpet. It somehow seals the fiber from wicking up stain. Love ScotchGaurd too...3M...best...

I like the outdoor rug idea -- in fact, I think its pure genius. However, I don't like the laundry detergent idea. Not going to say it is the opposite of genius because it does SOUND like a good idea, and laundry detergent is indeed a good cleaner. However, it is for clothes washing ONLY. Or at least only for something you can thoroughly rinse with water after you get done. Floor mats -- maybe. Carpets and upholstery -- no way. All laundry detergent I've ever messed with leaves a sticky residue on your skin even when washed off and will leave that same residue on other materials unless both rinsed completely with water and agitated in the washer. I did use laundry detergent to get some spray paint off my driveway years ago -- long before I had a power washer -- and it worked find for that. I wasn't worried about residue on concrete. But for car materials, use something else. Like your stuff Scott, but not this one here. Sorry.

5:1 ...5 parts water and 1 part tide cold water clean in a 32oz bottle...hope that helps and thanks for your support and watching my videos

Hi Scott.. I`m going to be cleaning a friends carpet on his convertible . He left the roof down and it rained now it stinks (-: . I am going to take all the carpet out not just the mats , Any ideas what to use to clean it and get that odor out please ? Thanks.
If it's been wet for over three days, then mold may have started to grow and could be under the carpet/padding and no cleaning on the top side will kill it or remove it. Once mildew is on the underside, then it needs to be removed to clean the underside or just discard it and buy new.

Do you charge extra if there are heavily soiled stains or odors? Or does the cost of an interior detail include everything no matter how bad it is?
hello cameron johnson, great question!..it all depends and how heavy the stains are within the vehicle...if its just a few spots then no but if the car is extremely neglected then yes i charge extra..odors on the other hand is a different story,if the customer requests smoke or bad odors be removed then i charge extra because it takes more work and cleaners...no matter the odor or lack of i still love using the tide cold water clean to give a fresh clean smell to the car unless customer is sensitive to the cleaner, i always tell my customers I'm going to use it before the detail and if they have light odors it seems to do the trick for me...i hope that was helpful and I'm grateful for your comment...thanks again Scott
