@@HenrietaandHorrorChamberlain is directly responsible for Skektek need for mechanical "augmentations" since he lost both his eye and his hand due to Chamberlain schemes
Considering how these Skeksis are all old and sluggish, fat from centuries of self indulgence and hedonism, compared to Skekmal from the show who kept himself fit and moved about with fierce speed, climbed trees like it was nothing and ran about the world effortlessly by himself all while weighing quite a bit; if the Skeksis kept themselves as fit as they were in their youth, they’d be terrifying to say the least in how consistent their speed and ferocity could be

As a kid it really disturbed me how the Skeksis descended on Chamberlain and tore off his garments. I mistook his "shell" as part of his organic body and thought that they were basically tearing him apart. Now as an adult I see it as more or less symbolic rape which is, in a different way, just as disturbing.
Much like the Castle being encased in filth, the Skeksis basically draped themselves in rotting fragments and prided themselves on their sloppy grooming.

@@Dawnrunner42besides, I don't think any of the skeksis are that kind of messed up (aside from probably the ritual master, I never forget what he said about one of the gelflings having... vigor.)
I’m kind of curious about the Lore of the Trial by Stone. I think it’s interesting that even with how much they might hate each other, the Skeksis don’t engage in an actual sword fight. IT makes me think they do this out of fear for their own mortality. The chance to kill or harm an enemy isn’t worth the risk to the Skeksis’ own wellbeing. I agree that it looks like they’ve been doing the Trial by Stone for a long time, which makes me wonder about the Trial’s “rules”. At the end, the Chamberlain is banished because he lost; is that the case for every Trial? Would the Chamberlain have been allowed to stay if he had backed down? Its details like that make the world of Dark Crystal so fascinating.
@@TheTygreMaybe it’s on a case by case basis. After the other Skeksis humiliate the loser, the winner can decide on their ultimate fate. I love this movie, even the show of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance that I've gotten into. My favorite Skeksis in this film and the show are: 1: SkekUng, the Garthim Master 2: SkekZok, the Ritual Master 3: SkekTek, the Scientist 4: SkekSo, the Emperor (Age of Resistance) and 5: SkekSil, the Chamberlain.
I always found it interesting that, despite how cruel and vicious the Skeksis are, they still consider Skeksis life to be sacred. Not other lives, just that of their own kind. This isn't quite the same in the AoR show, but in the film it seems pretty clear that they are unwilling to kill one another, instead choosing banishment and humiliation.
Sad idea (not mine but a buddy's) SkekZok looks very reluctant and glaring at SkekUng when bowing to him not just because he too wants to be Emperor, but also because in AOR we saw despite being annoyed by the previous General he really liked him (crying out "NOO !" when he got wounded while the other Skeksis were mad at him or mocking). So perhaps he wanted to be Emperor not just out of jealousy and envy, but also because to him SkekUng has always been an imposter and never would be like his late friend was to his eyes
SkekUng is also basically a slob even among the skeksis, and while SkekZok isn't quite as "polite" as the Ornamentalist he still holds himself to a degree of refinement, after all rituals are his whole thing, so seeing the brutish Garthim master win instead of the smart and observant Chamberlain was disappointing.
@@tau-5794 true, except for the Chamberlain thing. Deleted script and the novelization has him hate both and want to be Emperor himself, sucking up to whoever won in hope to topple over them when the right moment would have come

One of the most bullshit things about the cancellation of Age of Resistance is that we never got to meet the Garthim General.
