I can't believe Netflix cancelled the renewal of this show. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had seeing it for the first time
It's all about money. They called Age Of Resistance "an expensive failure." If it had a larger audience (like that of Stranger Things), I'm certain that it would have been renewed. Stranger Things is exceptionally popular and nigh impossible with which to compete.

Personal opinion: as we can see and hear, UrGoh can speak normally, this means he speaks slowly to piss Skekgra off and have fun.
I love that Urgoh has a mischievous side while remaining calm and peaceful while Skekgra is a cheerful and caring person while remaining also easily irritated and impatient

The heretic is so immersed in their puppet show, it’s his puppet that looks down and is shocked that there is a fire. The puppet then tries to stomp the fire out. That was great comedy.

I think it’s because of the psychedelics altering their consciousness. Heretic should have snuck a ton of it into the castle and seen what effect exposure might have had on the other skeksis; maybe some would have seen his perspective.
Elder, could also be the screw in the Heretics head, lol. Hope we learn how he got that.
This was one of the greatest scenes in the show. I’m glad that other people agree. I was so impressed to see them using puppets to use puppets. I hope they sell those little ones at Hot Topic or one of the other stores near me. This whole show was a masterpiece. Jim Henson would be so proud 💜🖤💜

I've been repeatedly amazed by how incredible the series has been so far, and this scene in particular astounded me. Also, during the scene with the Gelfling hand puppet, I immediately recognized it as the gestures of barnabydixon!

I hate to say it but I think the series almost (almost!) surpasses the film.
T Electronix it surpasses it in terms of pacing. I love the film, but it has quite a few expository scenes that this show didn’t need give its...well...a multi episode show

Johnlindsey289 oh absolutely. As a fan of the movie and subsequent media around it (books comics etc.). It’s amazing to see things from the expanded lore (hehe lore) on screen.
As for Labyrinth...DANCE MAGIC DANCE!!!
It’s a classic for me as well, less of an epic world and more of a beautiful, cheesy, but heartfelt film.
A Skeksis calling Augra; "Mother Augra"!!! WOW!!! Love it!!
yumezaka He is the only Skeksis so far to genuinely respect Aughra and honor her. I wonder if he always did that or did he only do it after realizing the truth.
I guess they all did in the beginning (although it might have been a front), but yes I agree that the only one to genuinely do that now is SkekGra.
@@WorldWar2freak94 It seems like at first they liked her and meant well, but time exacerbated their worst traits. The scientist seems to have a genuine moment of hesitation before he brushes it off as "another time another world".
@@ryderninja Especially when Mother Augra reminds him that they used to be friends. You can just imagine them back in the day, the Scientist wanting to understand Thra and everything in it, Augra knows Thra, but she knows it from a mystical perspective and he wants to understand the science, of how everything works, so Augra encourages him to pursue his search for his truth, maybe even helped him with it sometimes

He still has typical evil traits skeksis bare, it's just he has redefined them. you can tell its there still under the surface. It's just he stresses self control. His laugh, impatience, willingness to rebel against his fellow skeksis., over the top, self of pride, all these things are seen in other skeksis. He just chooses not to embrace it too much.
@@AngelEmfrbl I totally agree! This is seen a lot in the first meeting of SkekGra, where he even refers to Hup as a slave, multiple times. He was inherently created to show that he indeed has these negative aspects that all the Skeksis are known for, but acts differently on them.
It kind of reminds me of when you meet a seemingly nice, intelligent person, and they turn out to be socially impolite at the worst times, showing their true feelings and colors.
Whether or not this is because he's a junkie is up for debate, but I wouldn't put it past him.
Overall, his character feels more life-like than the other skeksis, because he accurately shows how people can have both good, and bad opinions about their situation, and society around them.
At the end of the day, it's even hard to decipher if he's a "good guy" or not. Sure, he stands behind the Gelfling Revolt, but his Skeksis way of thinking is very obviously embedded in his brain, which could stand for another social commentary on Nature vs. Nurture!

It's like they went through the entire history of puppetry here lol, old age shadow puppets, paper puppets, old japanese puppetry, and new puppetry with machinery and cgi (are the audience lol)

That's the trouble with a prequel. Maybe they get a noble death though. Like archer who sacrifices himself by killing his counter.
This show!! This entire show!👏👏👏👏👏👏 I was expecting the little puppet show to just be a bit of fun especially the way the mystic announces it. But it was so above and beyond that I actually cried😭

@@NansJns yes, and a little known fact is that the conjunctions are when the 3 suns of thra unite and shine a beam of light into the crystal. Another is that in thra's history there've been 3 great conjunctions set apart every 999 trine, the first was when the urskeks arrived in thra, the second was when the urskeks tried to purify themselves with the crystal and corrupted it which ended in them becoming urru and skeksis, and the third was when Jen reunited the fractured shard of the crystal with the crystal which purified it and reunited the urru and skeksis into urskeks
4:01 poor Hup, he just wanted to snuggle up to his lady Deet for a nice nap and he ends up flat on the floor
So who at Netflix thought it would be a good idea to cancel such a creative and wonderful show, and what were their reasons for doing so?
Mostly some people who saw the movie was scared from the Skesis and what they did or saw the death of the Empore (crumble and turn into dust and Mystic burst into flame when the Skesis scientist fell to his death in the furnace)
The backstory presented in the show was a little too close to earths true history and the reptilians in charge of Hollyweird didn't like that it portrayed resistance and rebellion against their counterparts in the show (the skeksis obviously).
The scene of the gelfling puppet leaping in slow motion to kick the stone down was so epic!!!
Yeah, barnaby is one of the best hand puppeter's i've ever seen.
Barnaby Dixon designed and did a few of those puppets, and thats one of his most famous designs. His original in that style was a glow in the dark insect puppet!
But yeah its awesome and I love all his puppet work.
Leon Mallow pretty sure the original was Manu actually, the bug is the refined design.

Bar👏na👏by👏Di👏xon👏My👏Frea👏king👏Boyyy!!! Not only was this scene the most fitting and adorable bit of self-reference, but literally handing over the reigns to the next generation. Just, so much respect and mastery of both the lore and the craft is shown by everyone involved, if this isn’t my favorite scene in the whole show then it’s the one that perfectly contains how I felt watching this whole project. 🧡
It’s a badge of honor for anyone to be enlisted by the Jim Henson company to be part of a huge movie or TV series project!
TH-cam’s own Barnaby Dixon helped out with this scene, I recognised his style immediately at 2:30. Very talented puppeteer, I hope he gets more work with the Henson crew through this.

I new immediately that had to be Barnaby Dixon. It really shows how expressive puppetry can when you can recognize someone just be the way they move their hands
I really like that they had a good Skeksis.
For me, that showed that the Skeksis weren't inherently evil - they CHOSE to be evil. Which is kinda worse tbh
@@BitterFlower I think it was in their nature. In a way though, it's more than being evil; it's the fact they are extremely egotistical and utterly self-absorbed. The Skeksis believe their lives are worth more than anyone else's.
This scene was incredible. The Gelfling puppet also looks a lot like one of Barnaby Dixon's two-handed puppets.

This is such a bittersweet image, UrGoh and SkekGra just want to unified again.
Y'know, looking at the puppets hugging, I can't help but think about how Heretic actually FELT when the Skeksis didn't listen and chased him out from the group ;__; He must've been devastated!
I also wonder about UrGoh's relationships with the other Mystics and how his decision to stay with SkekGra went down. I would think the Mystics welcomed the Wanderer to come with, but he simply refused.
The Heretic and Wanderer may be alone but all the same they're together! And they try to be as close and unified as they can be in their current state. Now I know they will both die together at some point, but until then I SERIOUSLY hope nothing torturous happens to either one of them in season 2!

Puppetry within puppetry; that's the genius, brilliance, and magic of Jim Henson alright...plus, who doesn't love a puppet show that ends in a "BANG," or in this case a real "BACK BURNER!" (Plus, I lost myself and couldn't stop laughing when SkekGra tried to put out the fire on UrGoh's back with the puppet.)

I'm really digging this new series. It's like watching a dream with waking eyes. I like that it's clearly made for kids but respects that kids can handle heavy subject matters. It's also made so adults can fully enjoy it, too. I sure am and hope there's more to come.

Amazing cast, crew and musicians! This show is a beautiful and immersive masterpiece and completely meet my expectations. In fact, its even better then I thought it would be. Now I want more! I would even except the Dark Crystal movie remade into a 10 part show so we get an expanded and slow story telling and with the new technology which goes into it. Thank you to everyone involved and to Netflix for making this happen.

Who thinks this, Cobra Kai and Blade Runner 2049 are the only 80s movie revivals done right unlike shitty lazy halfassed crap moneygrabs with no passion for the material like Ghostbusters 2016, Robocop 2014, Elm Street 2010, The Predator etc. failed miserably?
Cobra Kai (Karate Kid series), this show and Blade Runner 2049 are done by talented people with passion and love for the material and expanded on the worlds and succeeded for that.
I’d add Mad Max Fury Road to that list although the original movie came out in 1979.

I wonder if the show had ever finished would we have got a cool moment with these two where they actually rejoin?
We have no clue if the crystal is really the *only* way they can rejoin. Perhaps as the gelfling are wiped out and Auhgra defeated, these two would combine and force the Skeksis to retreat while they hide Jen. (also causing the Garthim to retreat to the castle, thus never finding Kira)
This would also work because they could work with Auhgra to preserve the remainder of the world that isn't corrupted, thus leading as to why there's as much as there is during the events of the movie.
Pretty sure the "puppet show inside of a puppet show" was Andy Samberg's idea.

As soon as I saw this scene I was like HOLY SHIT! Barnaby Dixon!
He mentioned the "inner sun." If I remember correctly, the plot description for the potential sequel to the Dark Crystal mentioned the inner sun of Thra as an important part of that story. If the show had continued, maybe they would have even been able to do a version of that lost sequel. This is such a roller coast ride. The show was great, but will we ever know what might have been?
I can just imagine the writers/creators sitting around a table and saying, "Let's have a puppet show in the show to explain the history."

As someone that watched the Dark Crystal as Kid this Show made me very happy. But in the end netflix had to ruin it.
